we went to make certain you know we are going to continue to do what we do, work every day. i get up and fight for what i call the big fight, faith, family, freedom, hope and opportunity. and through this campaign, stand with me, tonight is no different, i ask that you stand with me to work on these issues for our state, for our nation. we know that we are going to work early tomorrow on these issues, the transition began. i look forward to being your senator. god bless tennessee. [cheers and applause] ♪
>> thank you. >> thank you, thank you, thank you. eight years and 7 months ago, we are here tonight. this campaign is behind us, that is where we will leave it. the campaigns i have been involved in our divisive and tough and too nasty. i have done this for over 200 years and after the campaigns we come together and that is what we are going to do. americans come together. so thank you to all of you. you have been part of it but
the first person i want to thank is my lovely wife. [applause] >> we have been together and i put her through a lot of things. the last eight years have been a lot. when hurricane michael hit, a young lady not interested in giving campaign speeches, she was afraid of public speaking, asked her if she would go on the campaign trail and she did. [applause] >> i went to thank our daughters allison and jordan and their families.
i love my family with all my heart and i love every family in the state and my goal is to make this a better place for every family in the state, every family. there are a couple people looking down from heaven i want to recognize. i have the most wonderful mom. [applause] >> when i was born my mom was a single mom and raised 5 kids in a tough environment with no money. she never would believe the governor or us senator. i guess she believed it.
is jackie. [cheers and applause] >> she has been by my side since my first year in office it built a great campaign team and they worked day and night, thank you. [applause] >> and brett, my chief of staff. brad is my chief of staff and he has done a great job. i think my entire team and governor's office, they have done a great job making this a place to live. there are a lot of people who helped in this race.
i think donald trump. [cheers and applause] >> i think vice president mike pence. i want to thank former president george w. bush. [cheers and applause] >> former governor jeb bush. [cheers and applause] >> reporter: a lot of people came down to make sure we got the vote out, senator lindsey graham. [cheers and applause] >> senator cory gardner. i want to thank everybody from puerto rico that came. i went to thank congresswoman jennifer gonzalez. i want to thank the lieutenant governor.
i went to thank marco rubio. [applause] >> lieutenant governor carlos fitzgerald. [speaking spanish] >> there's going to be a lot of pundits who will analyze this race. a lot of people will poor overall the in accurate polls. but i have no interest in looking backwards. i'm going to look to the future and we have a bright future in front of us.
based on a lot of people's hard work, the national economy is growing, wages are up, every country would love to have a economy of the usa. we are the envy of the world and florida is the envy of the united states. when you see all the success it is shocking to see people suggesting we embrace socialism. socialism will not happen in our nation. it is not going to happen under my watch. i didn't go to tallahassee eight years ago to be everybody's friend. i'm not going to dc to win a
popularity contest. i'm going to dc to get something done. i put out a 10 point plan that i believe in. i know they decided not to read it or spend any time on it. we all know change is never popular especially when you talk about how you are going to change government but i brought a business perspective to tallahassee eight years ago and tried to use every effort i could to change the direction the state of florida and together we did. together we reinvented state governments in florida and we will do the same in dc. the federal government is frustrating. it is outdated. it is wasteful. it is an efficient. state governments have dealt with the federal government over the last eight years and we could tell you story after story after story. i am just one individual but there are a lot of individuals
in dc that want to do the same thing and i will work with them and we will change like we did in florida the direction of washington dc. [cheers and applause] >> we didn't accept government incompetence in tallahassee and we are not going to accept it in dc. i will not accept it as your new us senator. [cheers and applause] >> four weeks ago we had a horrible hurricane that hit our state, hurricane michael. storm surge, 150 mile an hour winds, devastation. you know what i saw with it? people came together. people from all over the country came down here to help us. people didn't say are you republican or democrat? they said you need water, you need food, you need tarp, what can i do to help you? do you need a generator? they did. from all over the state to all
over the country people came together. we can do the same thing in washington. [cheers and applause] >> we all wondered this to be a better place for each of our families. we can make change. we did it in the last few years in tallahassee, we can do it in washington dc. i never going to give up on this country. i was blessed to live with the family i did growing up and i will never give up. god bless every one of you. god bless our great country. let's get to work.
