House GOP Leader Mc Carthy Weekly News Conference CSPAN September 26, 2019 7:38pm-8:02pm EDT
it was before fax machine or e-mail it was by telephone and by mail. and professor woodward submitted it and that's the last we heard of it. >> with the acting director of national intelligence house minority leader mccarthy held a news conference. it is 20 minutes. [inaudible conversations] good morning.
what we witness today was a perfect example of the democratic majority and how reckless they have handled this significant responsibility i will use chairmanships own words of parity if you watch chairmanships this morning, he uses a fake dialogue at the top of the hearing between president trump and president of the ukraine to show how unserious they are. for them it is not about the narrative and the truth but we arty know this because speaker pelosi third in line to the president open impeachment inquiry without even seeing one word of evidence. in what world is that responsible cliques and maybe
one place we would expect freshmen member of congress to tweet we should have the impeachment inquiry. but this is a speaker of the house. without one bit of evidence to open the impeachment inquiry even her own members questioned she moved too soon and when the evidence was released the democrats and many media believed what they wanted to believe. would be pulled into the narrative. it really goes to show this is what their impeachment is all about, just politics. but not the politics the way the public expects but this is the people's house this is the body where the voice should be heard. not one voice of the speaker but millions of americans. so consider the last time the
house looked at impeachment of a sitting president. passing a resolution that recognizes the importance of a full house vote. i want to read to you what the house said because the issue of impeachment is of such overwhelming importance, the committee decided that it must receive authorization from the full house before proceeding on any further course of action. it went on to say because impeachment is delegated solely to the house of representatives by the constitution, the full house of representatives should be involved in critical decision-making regarding the various stages. that is why we saw the resolution on the floor last night. as we depart for a two-week recess, every member owes it to their constituents those who have lost their voice to the members over the last two
years. they should be very clear on where they stand speaker pelosi refuses to seek approval in the house with the practice of this body to see the importance of what we are looking at today i would give all members the opportunity to go on record on this matter and i ask every member to take this vote serious. america is too great for vision so small as impeachment. the democrats promised they would be different in america trusted them. they have failed the american public and have gone against the rules of this house. simply for one thing, their own politics. we had a speaker of the house who moved to have the impeachment inquiry without one word of evidence.
now the evidence is out and now she owes the american public and apology. >> you have said a lot about democrats but what you did not do was defend the president. is the president defensible in this case quick. >> yes. what in this case rises to impeachment this is the president of the united states a had a conversation with a leader in another country for go never before has a present had to put forth their conversation. the reason why is because a whistleblower who did not hear the conversation, there by had no primary source and now he released it not just to the members of congress but to the entire world such as weekend
national security for every president in the future. and when you read the transcript to me one thing in there that talks about them on - - that implies impeachment but the speaker of the house moved for impeachment against the rules without having the full-body vote without one bit of evidence. >> whether or not it is impeachable. >> i think it's very clear it is not. >> but to comment on the president to ask president zelensky as somebody who may run against the president. >> be very clear the president did not ask to investigate joe biden what he asked the president of ukraine is to participate in the open investigation of what transpired in 2016. that is not for us to look to another government to
participate in the open investigation of what happened in 2016 because we want to make sure that never happens again. >> he also asked as a follow-up president zelensky if he can look into the former vice president and his son. we all know he might run against joe biden next year. by him doing that versus a formal government investigation. >> what you are reading to my belief what you read what the president said he said i have a favor to work with eeg 540 words later before biden never comes up he doesn't say that he says what a lot of us have concerns. ukraine has a challenge with corruption. you have the vice president openly saying he withheld $1 billion for six hours.
you have the president son - - vice presidents being paid from the company that is investigated everybody understands that should be looked into while the ukraine is being paid to clean up their corruption. when you read the transcrip transcript, the president says everybody has been misquoting about what transpires afterward afterwards, to participate in the open investigation by the attorney general which is totally lawful come of something that transpired in 2016 nothing about a further election. nothing about biden. >> what you think of the whistleblower allegation that officials ignored this quick.
>> that whistleblower has no primary sources. what if it was true? you have the entire transcript. so is there a concern what you have going forward? now do i see why you'd want that on a more secure server knowing earlier in the administration the conversation with another leader from australia was put forward i watch the new york times anonymous editorial working within the white house doing anything to do that? yes people should secure this but that's a question of anybody out there that somehow that was the misdeed you have the entire transcript you have the entire phone call i don't see how that even comes into question. >> that with other republicans.
>> i will be frank with you. i don't think about political risk i think of solutions. what one - - were not talking about something small. think about what you're talking about think of what the democrats have just done to this country the last week or the last two years. they are talking about impeaching a sitting president. the leader of the free world. they have an individual the head of the judiciary committee to campaign for that position based on impeaching the president. it goes beyond politics this affects every american the world the strength as a country you know that democrats ran asking the public to give them the majority they promised. united states mexico and
canada agreement mexico has already agreed canada is waiting it guarantees a stronger america but we cannot do this we have a crisis on the border we cannot do anything about it. americans go into their own network into a hospital than they walk away but we can't do anything the ability to lower prescription drugs. we can't do any of that because you know why? the democrats want to play politics i do not care about politics anymore i care about this country i care about who we are. >> raise the question. the president has released the entire transcript. there is nothing in the transcript that rises to impeachment. their own national security intel committee chair just laid out in the steering to talk about impeachment parity
he even called it that the same chairman who just lied to the american public and said he had proof beyond circumstantial evidence how do we forget that? what nightmare did he just put to the country the last 20 months? on the millions of dollars have we spent with the fbi and everybody else? why do they continue this? it goes to the heart of your question, politics. there is a moment in time to put the country first mimic the whistleblower says he or she spoke to officials of direct knowledge so i'm wondering what you make of that and you give credence to the whistleblower and from what you said about the white house it actually was not a
transcript but apparently verbatim word for word that has been released would you supply that word for word verbatim transcript quick. >> this is a transcript of the conversation it will show the way it is taken and where it sat. you are asked about a whistleblower. everything dad is now for this classified nothing is from a primary source is all hearsay with somebody else. that was just put to rest by the transcript. the transcript gives you a president trump in the president of ukraine said. there is nothing in there that is impeachable.
>> as you - - are you open to the possibility of high crimes and misdemeanors or is your mind made up quick. >> i'm different than the speaker of the house. i will base it on fact. the facts of the phone cal call, prior to the speaker of the house said the president has violated the law. then she went on to say we will have an impeachment inquiry that breaks the rules of the house with no vote on the floor. taking away the voice of millions of americans. there is nothing in that phone call that raises to the level of impeachment. >> did he do anything wrong? spent the question the democrats are not asking they have raise this to impeach him that is the question that is taking place i know you write
a lot of conversations and a lot of stories of what happens in congress but this is different than almost anything else that we do. talking about changing america. you can have your likes and dislikes but we are very clear but - - but what rises to the level of impeachment but today we have a speaker who is the judge and the jury before any facts. and as i said before, america is too great for a vision so small. >> a few members of your own conference you considered concerned about them quick. >> i'm not sure i have not had a member come to me yet for a
challenge on this i have had members that i would suspect could and they have a whole different belief. they are frustrated with what the democrats are doing by not basing it on anything. >> it is clear from the transcript of the call and was in the public domain that rudy giuliani has a role are you concern the president was asking his personal lawyer to get involved in foreign relations with ukraine? taking questions publicly from congress on his role rudy giuliani takes a lot of questions every day. he is his personal attorney. i don't know. >> should the republican party be thinking about the primary for candidates to challenge
trump quick. >> that's an interesting question why you ask that. i look at this based on the fact with the democratic party i'd be really concerned about the former vice president. i think he has a lot of questions to enter. hunter biden, no experienc experience, hired by an energy company that is under investigation at the time. at the time hunter biden's father is the vice president to represent america with ukraine. he flies on air force to and comes back ten days later after going to china low and behold his brilliance of energy is one.$5 billion of china also gets a $50000 payment every month paid from the company that is being investigated that bothers the president of the united states and then tells the president at the time you have six hours
to fire a prosecutor was not investigated if not you don't have the money so then the president says you cannot say that. president obama then says no i have the power i'm leaving in six hours lo and behold vice president of the united states has the ability to get him fire fired. again i don't play politics for if you want to ask a political question based on the party that is a party i would be afraid about. that i want to know where the democrats are rising up about that question and what went on they are. did hunter biden get those contracts was his name hunter smith? if you flew united to china? i think not. >> it with the issue of
financing that they say that was held up directly by the president to go through normal channels through the executive branch or congress and those that directly perceive presidential favor what about the president holding that funding. >> deal on fact. the fact shows the president of the united states tunnel trump gave funding prior and after the time we are talking about. prior to this you are taking the word of a whistleblower who says they were not on the phone call and everything they allege they heard from somebody else. now we have people with primary sources. inside you take the president himself the words you gave to the american public that he is
concerned about europe and the responsibilities of ukraine based on the location and others and now we get the conversation in the transcript lo and behold what the president told the american public is what he said in a phone call will behold the president of ukraine says the exact same thing. so based upon all the facts i am not concerned at all. the senator who made a phone call to president trump, he gave the exact same conversation he had prior to that coming out so primary source the president and the president of ukraine, senator apartment on - - portman there is a point in time you have to accept the truth in the facts. >> do you support the whistleblower coming forward?
mimic and have a problem with the whistleblower coming forwar forward. with who this individual is the ig says there is political bias he or she. but everything the whistleblower brought forth was nothing that the wit - - the whistleblower witnessed personally. take the players out and put yourself in the situation if you are in a jury and somebody says i heard this and i heard this. another person will say i was there. i witnessed it all and it was totally contrast to what the person who told you they hurt a lot but never witnessed. where would you weigh? we just ask the democrats give the same respect they do every other american.
2020 democratic presidential candidate senator cory booker spoke at the new hampshire institute of politics and new england councils politics and eggs breakfast. senator booker talked about why he's running in the direction of the country as he did. book for about one hour and then took questions from reporters. >> good morning! good morning! wow. i never thought i would see the day i would be so excited to be here because i may begin in this is "politics & eggs". you have accomplished something historical already. there's always one. [laughter] how do you know someone is a
