[cheers and applause] ♪
so when i started, 18 months ago, i told my first crowd in wisconsin that we are going to come back here someday and we are going to say merry christmas again. [loud cheering] mr. trump: so merry christmas, happy new year, but merry christmas. and i'm here today for one main reason, to say thank you to the people of wisconsin. incredible people. [cheers and applause] mr. trump: and you know, a wonderful thing, because now after millions and millions of dollars were wasted, and countless hours were spent, the recount vote has come back. you know, i called it a scam, but i won't say that, because we
want to be nice. so i refuse to say it was a scam tonight so they can't come back and say it. after all this money was spent by the democrats -- believe me, they were behind it, ok? and the green party, wonderful party. she got less than 1%, but she thought she was going to catch us. [laughter] mr. trump: all that money, all that time, all that effort. we got 131 votes more than we had before. [applause] mr. trump: i think it was worth it, what did they spend, $3.5 million, $4 million for 131 votes? that's ok. that tells you how important every single vote in america is, right?
we won wisconsin for the first time since 1984. 32 years ago. you went out and you pounded the pavement, organized fellow citizens, and propelled to victory, a grassroots movement, the likes of which the world has never seen before. now, all over the world they are talking about this, and they are now comparing what is happening in other places, faraway places, with what happened here. and brexit now is sort of a small version of what we did, but i predicted brexit. and when i predicted brexit, they all said he doesn't know what he is talking about. and when it happened, they refused to acknowledge that i predicted it. it was just standard. i will never forget you, and i will never, ever, stop fighting for you.
never. never. [cheers and applause] mr. trump: i'm honored to be here tonight with our incredible wisconsin leadership team. sheriff david clark, where are these people? sheriff clark. senator ron johnson, comes from behind. he came from behind. governor scott walker, where is scott? oh man. he was tough. he is great. he is a great governor. he really is. he is a great person and a great governor, and i went against him for a while, and i want to tell you, he was tough. so now it's going to be your turn pretty soon. you and pence are going to have to fight it out, i don't know. [laughter] mr. trump: thank you, governor. i appreciate it. speaker paul ryan, i've come to
appreciate him. [booing] no, i've come to appreciate him. where is the speaker? where is he? he has been, i'll tell you, he has been terrific. and you know, honestly, he's like a fine wine. [laughter] mr. trump: every day goes by, i get to appreciate his genius more and more. if he ever goes against me, i'm not going to say that. he is a great guy, and we have some amazing things in store. we are going to work on taxes, obama care, we are going to work on things and he is going to lead the way, so thank you. we are going to work on the wall, paul. [applause] mr. trump: somebody said -- look at these guys. you think we are playing games. somebody said the other day, now that trump won, he's really not going to build the wall.
i said what are you -- ? we are going to build the wall. believe me. we have to. you've got to stop the drugs from coming in, and the wall is going to be a big, big factor. i also want to thank a man who is another star from these territories. there is good water in this state. chief of staff reince priebus, fantastic guy. fantastic guy. he has done an incredible job. and now he is a superstar. you know, i thought he was a superstar, but you've got to win to be a superstar. right? you've got to win. i said, reince, you are a superstar, but you have to win. before i really go crazy. we won, so now you are the superstar that we said. together we are going to washington.
whoop. are you ok? do we have a doctor in the house, please? doctor in the house? doctor in the house? ok. good. we love this lady. doctor in the house, thank you. we love this lady. we love everybody. we love everybody. that woman, who i have seen before, is terrific. make sure she is perfect. make sure she is ok. take your time. we have time, right? we have time. [applause]
pres.-elect trump: together we are going to make washington answer to the people once again. we are going to put the government to work for you, first time in a long time. the whole world is recognizing our movement. it is because of you. and by the way, again, of -- a movement that they have never seen before. they never knew. they didn't know what hit them. they didn't know what happened. and it is because of you that we, all of us, were just honored with the time magazine person of the year. and just a little while ago, it was announced that we were also
honored with the financial times person of the year, so that's great. you see, in the old days, it was called the man of the year, right? ok, so let me do this. and we've got a lot of women here. i got to do it. what would you prefer -- i will go person than man of the year. i'm doing this for all of you . would you rather see person of the year? man of the year? [applause]
pres.-elect trump: these guys are so politically correct. i will tell you what, person of the year is not doing well. i also want to give a very special thanks to all of our great veterans that are here. service members, military families. by the way, the military and law enforcement, i don't know what our numbers were, but i know they were record-setting highs. to all of those veterans and service people and law people, i want to thank you, because you are special people. special, special people. because the fact is that america's men and women in uniform are the finest and bravest the world has ever known. they're going through something very very difficult in the world, and even in our country. so to all of you who have worn the uniform, i say to you now on behalf of a very grateful nation, thank you. thank you. thank you very much. [applause]
pres.-elect trump: we are in your debt, and we will never let you down. we will honor your service and sacrifice. that begins with defending and respecting the american flag. [applause] [chanting "usa!"] pres.-elect trump: we don't like seeing people burning our american flag, ok? we don't like it. [crowd booing] trump: and we're going to take a look at that. all right? we're going to take a look at
that. we will all take a look at that together. one man who understands the meaning of service is somebody that has become unbelievably popular, because he is tough, he is strong, and he does not lose. general mad dog mattis, right? he is a popular guy, because of his record. ever hear of somebody called ever hear of somebody called vince lombardi? our country is going to start winning again, ok? winning again, ok? would anybody like to keep it the way it is? i don't think it -- we are going to wait. we're going to win is a much, you're going to go to paul ryan, and you're going to go mr. speaker, please, please, we can't stand winning this much, we can't take it. and he is going to come to see me and he will say mr. president, the people in wisconsin are tired of winning so much.
you are winning with health care, we are winning on the border, we are winning with isis, because we are going to get isis out. [applause] pres.-elect trump: we are winning all over, mr. president, they just can't take it anymore. i will say paul, i am sorry, you have to go back and tell them we are going to keep winning and winning whether they like it or not. last week, i formally announced my plans to nominate general mattis as your new secretary of defense. i think we are in the process of putting together one of the great cabinets. certainly the cabinet with the highest iq. him i mean, these are seriously great people. did you see today the president of goldman sachs, and we have general kelly, we have incredible people. dr. ben carson, great guy.
i think it is going to be one of the great cabinets ever, ever, ever. leaders and titans of industry, arts, sports, science are reaching out and want to find ways to help. i mean, today is an example. in my office, the great jim brown, right? jim brown. bill gates and winter. kanye. that is right. i rather like kanye. ray lewis. we have had somebody people come up that want to be part of what we are doing. we wants to use everybody. we want to use all of the brainpower.
we are going to bring this back. we are not likely to be great, we are going to be greater than ever before, you watch. tomorrow, coming up to the office, the true giants of silicon valley are going to talk about how to grow jobs. we're going to talk about how they can stay on top. we're going to talk about a lot of great things. but the real giants are coming up tomorrow, so it is going to be great. today i announced my plans to nominate rex tillerson. right? the chief executive officer and chairman of exxon mobil, to be the next secretary of state. rex is one of the greatest and most skilled global business leaders of our time. greatest dealse oil industry or any industry. a great diplomat. a strong man, a tough man, a man
who has already earned an avalanche of endorsements and growing praise from our nation's top leaders, including condoleezza rice james baker, dick cheney, majority mitch mcconnell, and so many more. people are looking at this resume, and honestly they have never seen a resume like this before. he will be a fierce advocate for america's interests around the world, and has the insights and talents necessary to help reverse years of foreign-policy blunders and disasters. [applause] pres.-elect trump: blunders and disasters. very excited about rex. he is friendly with many of the leaders in the world that we do not get along with varied some people don't like that. they don't want him to be friendly. that is why i'm doing this with him, because i like what he is all about. we are going to have somebody who is very special. america has been caught in a cycle of failed interventions that have weakened our security and undermined totally our stability. we have spent $6 trillion in the middle east.
$6 trillion. you know what that is? we could have rebuilt our three times. the situation is far worse than when we started. it is a mess. a mess. the cost in both dollars and lives has been immense. we need a new direction. we need a new direct in. america's foreign-policy has lacked a clear vision, a clear goal, and a clear understanding of the threats. the threats are in immense. instead of jumping recklessly from one intervention to another, my administration will build a long-term strategy for stability, prosperity, peace, and rebuilding our own country. we will rebuild our country. we need it.
that strategy will be guided by our values, our principles, and our patriotism. we will see goodwill among nations, a strengthening of vital alliances, and the pursuit of shared goals with interests aligned. we will not be taken advantage of by other countries. we will not be. no more. no more. we will get along great with other countries. we will not be taken advantage of. our goal is not to build new nations in far-off lands that most of you have never even heard of, but to crush isis, we have no choice. to defeat radical islamic terrorism. [applause] pres.-elect trump: my administration, with the help of paul and ron and everyone, will also rebuild our badly depleted military and take care of our
great veterans the way they should have been taken care of for a long time. we are building up this great military power in the hope that we never have to use it. we believe strongly in peace through strength. our military is going to be modern and powerful again, believe me. but to be a strong nation, we must also be a rich nation. it doesn't sound so nice. a woman says mr. trump, i don't like when you say rich nation. i say ma'am, you are a fabulous woman. if we're not going to be a rich nation, we cannot rebuild our military. we can't take care of all of the problems we have, including our medical problems. we are going to be a rich nation.
after i spoke to her a few minutes, she was ok. she was ok. my administration will be focused on three very important words -- jobs, jobs, jobs. [applause] pres.-elect trump: whether it is building cars, producing steel, or curing disease, we once the next generation of innovation and production to happen right here in america, and right here in wisconsin. [applause] mr. trump: first on taxes, this is where we really need paul. we are going to undertake one of the great tax reforms and simpllifications in american
history. this includes a massive tax cuts for the middle class, and middle-class families from wisconsin. we are also going to lower our business tax rate so that new companies will come to our shores and hire workers in cities like right here. is that ok? that is what we want. we are going to bring our rates down from 35%. we're going to try to get it down to 15%. so right now -- and by the way, the jobs will pour in. kenneth so right now, we are the highest tax nation in the world. when we finish, we will be one of the lower tax. one of the lower. on regulations, which is perhaps even more important because our companies are dying did being strangled through regulation, we eliminate wasteful job killing regulations. we will cancel the restrictions on production of american energy, including shale, oil, natural gas, and clean, beautiful coal. we're going to put our miners
back to work. [applause] pres.-elect trump: on infrastructure, i will ask congress to pass legislation that produces $1 trillion of new investment in america's crumbling infrastructure. and it is crumbling. i have a friend, big guy, one of the biggest in the world. trucking. he is to buy big trucks, the most beautiful in the world. he said i can't buy them anymore, because we go from california to new york. by the time we get to california or new york, there will be to beat to hell because of the potholes on the highway. i asked if it wasn't like this -- he has been doing this for 45 years -- and he said it was never like this. we have to fix our
infrastructure. we have no choice. we are going to put our people back to work in the process. it is time to help get americans off of welfare and back into the labor market. [applause] pres.-elect trump: rebuilding this country with american hands, and with american workers, my administration will follow to civil rules -- by -- buy american and hire american. right? we are going to do it. from now on, it is going to be america first. america first. i look at some of these deals we make, and some of the treaties, and some of everything, and i say "i think these people are picking about the other nations." i honestly do. it is impossible for this to happen. either that, or campaign contributions were magnificent for these people. the deals are so bad, so
bad, so disgraceful, that i actually think they are putting other countries ahead of our own. on trade, we are now -- you people don't stop. and screaming] -elect trump: so i used to say when i heard this chant "let's just win on november 8." but now we've won. big win. you people -- i will tell you, some people in wisconsin, folks. on trade, we are now running a nearly $800 billion annual trade deficit. i say who makes these deals? who? now think of it.
who? who makes these deals? $800 billion. america has lost one third of our manufacturing jobs since nafta. we have lost 70,000 factories. think of it -- 70,000. it doesn't even sound like it is possible. i know it is right because i have said for the last month and a half and they never corrected me, so it has to be. [chanting and booing]
pres.-elect trump: i mean, look, look, it is hard to believe. look at all those cameras. look at all that live television. look at that. who has to do this every night with all those light cameras up? can you imagine if we made a mistake? the other people running for office, if they make a mistake. but if i make a mistake, it is a disaster. look at that. look at that. have you ever seen so many cameras, mr. vice president? i have to tell you, they were devastated on november 8. they were devastated. they were devastated. [applause] trump: so it began with phony exit polls. and i got a call for my daughter at about 5:00, and she was called by people in the
business, and her husband jarod, great guy, he was called. and they called me, and they said i'm sorry dad, it looks really bad. it looks really really bad. i said what is the problem, tell me? it's very interesting. i really assumed i lost. i assume these things are supposed to be correct. i sort of thought i lost. i was ok with it. i wouldn't say great. in fact, i called my vice president and said not looking good mike? and he got the same numbers i was getting. a lot of it is funny stuff, too, because they will say "donald trump is a bad person, do you agree or not?" and some people will say yeah. it is so much easier. they have "yes" in a big box like that and then they have
find it.you can't you know, a lot of it is phony. i will tell you -- so i got the call, and they said it looks bad. it looks really bad. and they want to be nice to me. they're talking this way because they wanted to be nice. they actually thought we might lose, strongly. so i said don't worry about it. whatever happens, happens. for the last month, i didn't do interviews. all i did was these rallies. i did three a day. i did three a day. [applause] pres.-elect trump: and i will be honest, i was surprised by got the call, because i thought every time we had a rally does look at these numbers, they are still pouring in the back. except we had major arenas with repacked. and then we had 20,000, 30,000 people outside who could not get in. it didn't make sense to me, but at is ok. like they say in football and sports, you left nothing on the table, nothing on the floor. for the last month, i decided not to do interviews, because they give interviews and they
sentences and they cut them short. you will have this beautiful flowing sentence cut back and then i say never said it. they are very dishonest people. i said i am not going to deal. and all i did, for one month, i do to them three and sometimes for speech is a day, rallies like this. right? grounds, and then they would: it would say, can we have an interview with mr. trump? so we did three or four a date. is i tell you what, that tough. so i did three of them a day. fours.e of
and then i was going to do six and six. when you do with six speeches and you have 10,000, 25,000, 30,000 people, that is not so easy. good stamina. high energy. do you agree? hi energy. so i did the three a day and a lot of speeches. no days off. although i did go to church whenever possible. i did go to church, but no days off. then we got down to the last and i did six speeches. they know. they were exhausted, the press. then on the seventh day, you remember, monday, right? i did six speeches and then i heard from my opponent, does anybody remember my opponent?
they don't remember. they don't remember. [crowd chanting] trump: governor, these people are brutal. so bluntw why it was for you guys. but you one said that's ok. but i heard i did six, right? then monday comes along and i did six. and about three hours before the final speech i am saying, oh boy this is it. this is it. start 16 months before coming down the escalator, right? so a lot of things. we talked about illegal immigration, turned out to be right. we talked about trade, turned out to be right. but we did six speeches and then i heard about hillary --
[crowd building] president-elect trump: what going with her husband and -- ] rowd booing president-elect trump: they were on their plate going to michigan. and i said oh, that was not in the plan. they spent 2 billion dollars. i spent a tiny fraction of what they spent. in the old days, if you spent less money and one you got credit. nowadays, the whoever spends the most money, it doesn't make sense. but we spent a tiny fraction. they did a poll, we did not, why should i spend a lot of money for a poll when newspapers should do polls every day, right? these posters. so they spent a lot of money and new trouble in michigan because
they had an unscheduled trip to michigan. so they went to michigan, did not have a good crowd. and i said at 6:00, let's go to michigan. by the time i finished in new hampshire was already like -- 9:30 110:30. they said, you have done enough. i said, i do not care. this is the presidency, right? this is the presidency. so we went to michigan with no notice. with like eight tweet. we went up. now i do have between facebook, twitter, instagram, almost 40 million people and that is a lot. that is a lot. it with a tweet, we get there in the it is very late, it is like 12: already. and our vice president elect, our vice president elect was
there waiting. morningad at 1230 at and i started speaking at 1 a.m., we had it michigan 31,000 people inside and outside. 31 thousand. and i said, i said to mike and i said to everybody, we're going to win michigan. i tell you. it was like 38 years but i said, we're going to win michigan. i got the bad news from my daughter in and isaac, that is too bad. so i went and told my wife, baby, i tell you what, we're not going to win tonight. the polls have come up. i only choose to believe in those things. i do not believe in them anymore. it is looking bad but you know what? i'm ok with that. because of the fact, i cannot do any worse than that. i just cannot have. it if i lose, i lose.
and you know what chris marquis if i lose, i am one to be nice, easy life. we can all relax together, right? but you don't feel good if you did not put out and you lose. but if you put out every single ounce of energy in your blood, you feel like, ok. there is nothing more we can do. so i told her, and she looked at me and she has seen these rallies and she's a, you are not going to lose. and i said, no, i'm telling you i'm going to lose. and she said no. but it's my wife. she is a nice wife and she is trying to be nice, she is a great person. melania. right? melania? on the escalator. they love melania. she is great. she said you're not going to lose.
so now, the polls are closed and they start announcing numbers. i said this is going to be embarrassing. i'm trying to figure out what i am going to do. i have this ballroom, it is not that big. i don't know if i'm going if i to win or lose but i know if i am going to lose i don't want a big ballroom. i go up and say, ladies and gentlemen, i love you folks, good night everybody. i'm out of there. right? and she had this massive convention center with a big fireworks display. and they were paying about $7 million for the fireworks. it was a big deal, and they knew they were going to win until the final week. right? they knew bad things were happening. sign whenwas a good four days before the end they canceled the fireworks. if you think you're going to win you do not cancel the fireworks. they just canceled the
fireworks. it was a front-page story. usually you cancel fireworks because you don't want fireworks if you are going to lose. did anybody ever use fireworks if they were going to lose? in the history of elections, if you lose, you don't set off works, right? they cancel their beautiful fireworks. i wanted to be a wiseguy so i offered them five cents on the dollar for their fireworks [laughter] , ok? i did. [laughter] president-elect trump: we never heard back. we never heard back. but that was a good sign, do you agree? so i figured, it is election and we are going to lose but i had never done this stuff before. but hey, did we all do a good job together, right? it is a movement. a movement. then the real numbers started coming, and we started ohio. i was expected to win ohio by two points are three points. i am talking about the two of us. it comes in. we have breaking news, donald
trump has won ohio in a massive number. [cheering] president-elect trump: right? we won ohio very close to 10%. the 3% was now close to 10%. i said that is good. then, we have breaking news, donald trump has won the great state of iowa. i said, whoa. that was supposed to be close. we were off by one point. we won it by more than 10 points. these are different than the exit polls. what is going on? the exit polls had me tied in ohio. then they were a little bit like they were surprised by the numbers, right? these people that are standing back there. two or three of them i see.
i see three of them. four of them are hiding in the back. so then they go to florida. they are doing pretty well in florida. and unfortunately, they forgot to count our votes. all of a sudden they get to areas that we just dominated. we are sort of tied and we haven't gotten to the panhandle yet. she loves the panhandle -- i love the panhandle. and they told one of the networks, yes, we feel good about florida. florida is going to be ours. north carolina will be ours. that is the firewall. ladies and gentlemen, we have breaking news. donald trump has won the state of florida. right? [cheering] president-elect trump: now, they spent 10 to one in north carolina. 10-1. north carolina. i love that state. we won south carolina easily
but north carolina was supposed to be something that is very hard to win. ladies and gentlemen, we have breaking news. and you see these people, they go like, oh! like, the networks is ladies and gentlemen, we have breaking news. they are like in a state of absolute -- like they are getting sick. ooing] president-elect trump: one of them, they say, broke down and started to cry, but i do not think she did. they go, ladies and gentlemen, donald trump has won the state of north carolina. now we are running up the east coast, like a marathon. like, now we hit
pennsylvania and they do not want to call it, right? we are left with 1% and if they got 100% of that 1%, they still get killed in pennsylvania. every republican forever thought they were going to win the great state of pennsylvania. right? they said, not me. they called it the bride that got away, that is always the expression. pennsylvania, great state. i said, we're going to win pennsylvania but i keep thinking, every time you said that, for 38 years or something you we have not one pennsylvania. one of those states very tough to win. but i just felt so good, we are getting these massive crowds. hershey, pennsylvania. we are going to hershey, big crowd. pennsylvania, they do not want to call it. they do not want to call it. 1% left and there is no way they can catch it and i am starting to do interviews because i think, this is fun, this is great. i can't lose pennsylvania.
but they refused to call it because they are dishonest people. all right? [booing] president-elect trump: sorry. but then we go up the coast and it happened, right? before pennsylvania, even though they should have done pennsylvania about 11:30 p.m. in the evening. first of all, they had the commercials. because the audience they had that night was massive. the debates -- did i win those debates, folks? [cheering] president-elect trump: the , over 100d a massive million people. by the way, did mike win his debate? [cheering] president-elect trump: that was not even a contest. in fact, mike, it even got boring. that was not even a contest. then it happened, out of nowhere, and they got sick, they were, like, he was throwing up.
you know, with the map being -- that map was getting red as hell. that map was bleeding red. florida, south carolina. [cheering] president-elect trump: and before that, remember, texas, for three months, texas is in play. that means we are even and republicans win texas. even if you are a lousy candidate, you win texas. texas is republican. and it is great and the people are great and i had these massive crowds and for three months, they said, texas is in play and next week is very close. texas is in play. and georgia. remember georgia? georgia is in play. and i said meehan, can you imagine if i lose texas or georgia? i am saying to my kids and my wife, this is going to be a
disaster. and then they said utah, i do not think of republican has ever lost. utah is in play -- against some guy, i looked at him -- my wife looked at him and said, you will not lose to him. [laughter] president-elect trump: i am telling you, she is good at this stuff. i said yeah but they say he is tied with me. and she said, no, no, you're not going to type with him. you will not lose to him, do not worry about it. now it is, whatever time, 8:00 or 9:00, the numbers were so great. donald trump has won the state of texas. that means it was a slaughter. it was a slaughter. donald trump has won the state of georgia. donald trump has won the state of utah. i love you talk. you talk.
a. i love ut h. utah. i mean, this guy they put up there to bite me, he was -- i mean hillary even beat him, ok? to fightut up there me, he was -- hillary even beat him, ok? we won utah by 25 points. all of a sudden, they are saying, what happened? now we win all of these states and they are holding pennsylvania. ladies and gentlemen, donald trump has won the state of wisconsin. [cheers and applause] president-elect trump: right? so they said donald trump has won the state and i give a lot of credit to them. your governor, i give a lot of credit to paul ryan.
booing]billing and ient-elect trump: give a lot of credit to vice president mike pence. they stood up here and they campaigned like you never saw before. now we pick up a state we were not really expecting. we did not know that was going to happen. after that, michigan was announced. the greatest was when pennsylvania came in because that is a big and beautiful state. donald trump has won the state of pennsylvania. and they are going even before pennsylvania but they are doing all of this red and the map was so beautiful looking. and i will never forget the guy who was saying for months, there path to 270 for donald trump. but there was a path to 306. [cheering]
president-elect trump: no path. there was no path to 270. in fact, they could not get me to they could not get me up 270 but they got me to 269. i kept going back to maine. i went back to maine four times before i won. now, there is a beauty, a genius to it. the other would be easier, the popular vote. i go to new york, california, texas, florida. that's it, and it would be easier. but the electoral college is genius. you go everywhere and unless you see it, unless you see -- it is a very different way of campaigning. it is sort of like if you play golf, it is matchplay versus strokeplay. unless you see how this works up
close and personal -- we ended up winning and i will never forget when they were on the map and they put up wisconsin and he said, there is no path for hillary clinton to become president.
