>> good morning, presidential electors, and guests. the meeting of the 2016 presidential electors is now convened. the secretary of state, the honorable jesse white, proclaims this day, the 19th day of december of the year 2016 is the day fixed for convening the electors of the state to cast votes for president and vice president of the united states. all persons proclaimed by the state of illinois to be president and vice president electors are not requested to be in their seat. i ask all electors and guests to turn off cell phones and pagers at this time. please rise and join us for the pledge of allegiance.

will be introduced in a few minutes, i'd like to recognize a few individuals. danny davis, congressman of the seventh congressional district, who happened to be my congressman. president of the illinois state senate. when the american public went to the polls on november 8 and voted for their preferred candidate for president and vice president, they were actually voting for presidential and vice president joe electors. those electors -- they were actually voting for presidential and vice presidential electors. those electors from 50 states and the district of columbia are meeting today to officially elect our president and vice president. here in illinois, we are gathering for the 50th meeting of the illinois electoral college. there are 20 illinois electors who are representing the majority of wishes of almost 13 million residents of illinois. as required by law, copies of today's certified vote will be sent to the president of the united states senate and the

national archives and chief federal judge for this district. my office will also maintain additional copies of the certification of the vote for public inspection. in order for this business to proceed, i would like to have the rollcall. each elector shall respond by -- "present."nt." [roll call]

[roll call] >> the chair declares there are 18 of the 20 electors for president and vice president are in attendance. electors carrie austin and john daly are unable to attend

today's proceedings. in accordance with the provision of the illinois compiled statutes, the remaining presidential electors must elect a replacement to the vacant seats. in accordance with the statute, i hear a motion to nominate a replacement elector. >> thank you, secretary white, mr. chairman. i nominate patrick daley thompson to serve as an elector to serve in place of carrie austin. to tolliam a. brant, jr., serve in place of john daly. >> patrick daley thompson has been nominated to serve in place of carrie austin, and william brennan junior to serve in place
