tv   President Touts Accomplishments at Cabinet Meeting  CSPAN  June 17, 2017 12:18pm-12:42pm EDT

12:18 pm
poster prize winning with charlesaks gibson about his collection of speeches on american principles. >> i think the great presidents through the years that have been avid readers of history, many of them wrote history, including john kennedy, even those who didn't have the benefit of a college education, like harry, read history all their lives. -- like harry truman, read history all their lives. they realized it was essential to a leader, whether the presidency or any leadership. history matters. >> go to book for the complete schedule. this week president trump held a cabinet meeting at
12:19 pm
the white house. he started talking that the length of time it took for his cabinet members to be approved by the senate. then each member spoke briefly. this is 25 minutes. president trump: good morning. we have much great news to share with the american people as we continue to deliver on our promises do to a delay in the confirmation process by the calle democrats, which i the obstructionists, maybe they will change, but i doubt it. they are truly obstructionists. this is the first cabinet meeting with the entire cabinet present.
12:20 pm
this has been record-setting long i mean record-setting with some of the finest people in our country being delayed, delayed, and delayed. much of that is over and the regular process with people of other levels of government, a very long process, including committee -- ethics committee, which has become difficult to deal with. we have our cabinet approved and i want to welcome the secretary of agriculture, sonny perdue. the secretary of labor, director of national intelligence, daniel coats, and u.s. trade representative kirk robert mai representative, -- rt mai tai
12:21 pm
i chose each person at this table not only because of their remarkable experience and success, but because they have all united i one shared goal. one very simple, but very surveying and defending our beloved nation. we are working every day and have been working very hard together for our country to protect the safety, bringing back jobs in our country, and putting, always, america first. ran it was make america great again, and that is what we are doing. believe me. we are doing it, and we are doing it at a much faster pace. never has there been a president, with the exception of fdr with a major depression to handle, who has passed
12:22 pm
legislation that has done more than we had here and with the executive orders and job killing regulations terminated, many over 34 bills in congress, the supreme court justice will be a great one, and many other things we have achieved tremendous success. we have been about as active as you can possibly be at a just about record-setting pace. we are achieving these goals by eliminating job killing regulations. unlocking american energy, rebuilding our military, pursuing fair and trade deals, transforming the department of veterans affairs, and building a new partnership among nations to defeat terrorism -- we have to do. in a short time we are seeing amazing results. in fact, there are a couple of major stories in the newspapers opening and miners
12:23 pm
going back to work. they are pretty big stories. surprised. happening very fast. more small businesses are preparing to higher than at any point -- to hire than at any point over the last decade. i recently returned from a trip overseas. included deals from within 350 billion dollars worth of military and economic investment in the united states. these deals will bring many thousands of jobs to our country , and will bring millions of jobs ultimately, and help saudi arabia take a greater role in providing stability in the things wee of the big have done, and you are seeing it onh qatar and things going in a positive fashion. we are stopping the funding of terrorism. we are going to stop the funding
12:24 pm
of terrorism. it is not an easy fight, but is we are going to you have to starve the beast, and we are going to starve the beast, believe me. secretary price has been working to repeal obama care. the senate has it now. mitch mcconnell is working very, very hard, as are the republican senators. we will have zero backing from the democrats even though they should do something, but we expect to get zero. if we have the greatest bill in the history of the world on health care we would not get one vote from the democrats because they are obstructionists. that is what they want to do, they think that is their best political game. so far we have had 2 races and .e have won both races they spent billions and billions of dollars, congressional races. we have another coming up, and we have been doing well.
12:25 pm
obstructionistsactio and that is said. zero support from the obstructionist democrats. sad. secretary many region is helping us put together one of the biggest tax cuts in american maybe the single biggest tax cut in american history that includes tax reform simplification. director mulvaney has led efforts to introduce a new budget that cuts wasteful washington spending. that will come out, and believe me, we will take care of the people that have to be taken care of. we will be taking care of the people that have to be taken care of. on the human basis, that is very important here and we will hear from secretary tillerson and secretary mattis on the ways we are combating prices and
12:26 pm
defeating terrorism. we have had tremendous success against isis and our fight in the middle east. we are doing very, very well. we will have a news conference in two weeks on that fight, and you will see numbers you would not have believed. frankly, if you look at six months ago, you would not have believed it was possible. we will have an update on tremendous work to make sure that our veterans are finally given the care that they deserve , one of the most important things to me on the campaign trail. we have been strongly pushing for the passage of the va accountability act to ensure employees of the va can be held accountable if they fail our great veterans. the senate and the house is voting tomorrow. tomorrow we have a big vote, david, and i think we will be in good shape. that is something that is going to be great for our veterans.
12:27 pm
hear from secretary cost about a major announcement later this week expanding apprenticeships and getting people back to work. ofhave the lowest numbers unemployment in many, many years . at the same time, i have always argued with that number, because it does not take into account millions and millions of people that have given up looking for jobs. we will be doing something about that, and we will be getting those people back to work. it is starting in ohio, pennsylvania, north carolina, south carolina, florida. you see the numbers. i call them the forgotten men and women, but they will not be forgotten for much longer, believe me. there are millions of jobs that do not require a four-year debt that massive often comes with those four-year degrees, and even two-year
12:28 pm
degrees. these require skills and technical training. we will start that. ahe word o of apprentice. may be mechanical talent, talent for fixing an engine or motor. those who graduated high in their class in the best colleges in the world have no clue and would never be good at. it is a different kind of ability, but ability nonetheless. we will get our young people the training they need to pursue exciting careers where they can make good money, really earn a great, great salary and maybe even open small businesses. if everyone in this room continues to do their jobs, we prosperity american and make millions and millions of dollars. we can make for these people and
12:29 pm
make the american dream come true, make the american dream come true for a lot of people that will not have had that experience without the election results that we had in november. we are here to change washington, return power to the people. we are here to give people a great shot at a great, great job and even opening small businesses and employing other people. i look forward to hearing all of the reports from the different people in the room today. we have done, as i said, about as much as anybody ever in an intial period of time presidency, despite tremendous opposition from the other side, we have done something that is very special. you see that in economic numbers, because the economic numbers have been incredible. almost $4 trillion in work has been created in the stock
12:30 pm
markets in our country. just look at that. 700,000 jobs have been created in a short period if we would have said that on november 8, nobody would have believed the number. if we would have said that, almost $4 trillion in the stock markets have been created, everybody would have laughed at us. they would've said that is ridiculous. that's what it is. we are very proud of it. we have a great group of talent. a great group of talent. we are really now seeing the early fruits of their labor. some of them will not be able to kick in because statutorily they are delayed. we will have major legislation very soon on the dumping of steel in our country that is killing our workers and are
12:31 pm
steel companies. we will have legislation on the dumping of aluminum in our country which is killing our workers and we will be announcing that very soon. what we will do i think what we , will do, most of you know around the room, what is our vice president? there he is. and maybe start and we will go around, you name your position and then we will ask of these folks to go back and have a good day and we will discuss various reports. mike? >> is the greatest privilege of my life. the greatest privilege of my -- >> >> thank you, mr. president. the greatest privilege of my life is to serve as vice president to a president who is keeping his word to the american people who is bringing real change to our nation. president trump: thank you, mike. attorney general sessions: i would like to be here and celebrate this group.
12:32 pm
as you know, i am not sure the rest of you fully understand the support but law enforcement all , across america very frustrated. they are so thrilled that we have a new idea we are going to support them and walk together. we will lawfully fight to the rising crime that we are seeing. it is an honor to serve you in that regard. you have sent to the exact right message and the response is fabulous around the country. president trump: great success including ms-13, being thrown out and rapidly and they are being depleted. they will all be gone pretty sent. you are great, jeff. think you very much. alex? >> mr. president, it is my privilege to be here. i am deeply honored and i would
12:33 pm
like to thank you for your amendment to the american workers. we are very excited at the department of labor. and apprenticeship program that you will be announcing some i , think this is going to make a real difference. so thank you. president trump: thank you and congratulations. >> mr. president, it is an honor to be on the team. this last week china they needed , to hear why america is stepping away from the paris accord. america is not stepping back. we are stepping into play and sending messages. we are still going to be leaders in the world when it comes to climate but we will not be held hostage do some executive order that was ill-thought out. my hat's off to you for taking that stand and sending a clear message around the world that america will continue to lead. >> thank you, mr. president. it is a new day at the united
12:34 pm
nations. we now have a strong voice. people know what america's for, they know what we are against, they see as leading across the board. i think the international community knows we are back. president trump: thank you. >> of the budget we're going to , be able to take care of the people are needed. and with your direction, we will able to focus on the forgotten man and woman who are paying those taxes. i appreciate your support pulling the budget together. >> good morning. it is good to be back in the united states. i arrived back in this morning from 1:00 from italy from the g7. our message is the united states will be focused on growth and protecting the environment. it was received well. >> good morning, mr. president. the intelligence community has never faced such a diversity of threats to our country. we have men and women working 24-7, 7 days a week to make sure
12:35 pm
that we have -- we are on top of all of these threats. is a joy to be working with the people i have the inherited and we will provide you with the very best intelligence we can so that you can formulate policy to deal with these issues. president trump: thank you. that you can formulate policy to >> mr. president, it is a privilege to serve, to serve the children of this country and make sure every child has the opportunity to have a good education and therefore a good future. >> mr. president, what a equitable honor to lead the -- what an incredible honor to lead the department of health and human services under your leadership. i cannot thank you enough. it seems like there's an international flair. i had the opportunity to represent the united states at the g 20 health summit in berlin and in geneva and i cannot tell you how excited they are about united states leadership.
12:36 pm
>> mr. president, as your seal on your staff, it is an honor to be the generator of the energy dominance. i am deeply honored and i am committed and optimistic we can be great stewards and be the world's largest producer of energy. president trump: we can do both. thank you. >> mr. president, thank you for the honor to serve the country. it is a great privilege you have given me. clearly we are engaged with our , allies. so they know where our common interests lie and america will continue to be a leader but they , must do more. they must meet their obligations from a national security standpoint and for prosperity. for our adversaries, we will engage but they have to know we will be engaging from a position of strength to protect america's national interest and we expect to make progress resolving some of these differences.
12:37 pm
>> it is an honor to represent the men and women of the department of defense. we are grateful for the sacrifices our people are making to strengthen our military. we will always negotiate from a position of strength. president trump: thank you. >> thank you for the opportunity to help fix the trade deficit. other countries are gradually getting used to the free ride is over with. they are not happy with it but there is growing recognition of it and i'm thrilled to help you with it. >> mr. president, last week was a great infrastructure week. thank you for coming over to the department of transportation. hundreds and hundreds of people were just so thrilled to hang out and watch the ceremony. i want to thank you for getting this country moving again and

[indiscernible] >> i apologize for being late to work. i got stuck in the swamp you are trying to clean. i have also traveled the country.
12:39 pm
