they say he has already done a few things. they mention the carrier deal and some of his cabinet picks. they are excited here that a politician came back to des moines so soon, they have to wait a couple years until caucus campaigning gets going. they get to see the next president here just a few weeks after he appeared in the state, whichy -- he easily won. lou: he also, he named branstad, their governor ambassador to china. peter thank you. we appreciate it.
i know you will be there following the events as we, bringing it to our audience live throughout. joining me now, carter, and charlie. i got a kick out of what peter said, people in iowa are not used to having love returned so quickly. iowa certainly does not have anet opean esteem problem i hope. >> you know, it's funny, iowa gets ignored for 3 1/2 years every election cycle, then you know every 4 years it is you know for a year it is saturated with coverage. then they are ignored again. i can imagine this is straimplstrange to them. but this is all part of how
donald trump is redoing things, it sort of feels like he is already president, he is doing things that the current president did not ever do. our president now uses bully pulpit to do stupid things. this -- and trump he is doing -- he is using it for all of things it is used for. lou: this president is turning orthodoxy, conventional thought and wisdom, on its head. there is such a sense of i don't know if it is optimism or a fresh wind blowing right now. it is making a difference.
>> a very palpable difference. people are feeling more optimistic. there is more consumer confidence. people are excited, enthused that things are going right direction. lou: this is your polling? >> it is. forget that most times president don't go to iowa, most times, they don't go back into the country, he is going state by state to thank the voters. he has demonstrated actions and he is going to continue to hammer and talk about the,s that are important that goes a long way to give people confidence. lou: some might in some quarters of this country, might get a sense that things are rosie now, and take it for granted. granted.
i want to share jim palmieri, a washington post op-ed saying this. a reminder of what we might have had, had it been a hillary clinton president-elect period. >> i know how to be a gracious loser, it is time for president-elect to acknowledge how his campaign empowered right supremacist. >> i am so disappointed in that. lou: can we get away from the ignorancof the left. its irrelevan irrelevant. we have escaped through the presidency of donald trump. should we not express our gratitude daily? >> i tell you, i read that with much amusement, jen palmieri has been part of
political establishment in washington that has turned politics to a racialized thing like we've never seen before. they used demographic, they slice and dice the electorate into race, they peddle messages to different races, this is the most ununifying thing. democrats far worse about it than republicans are, for her to have lost with that same racialized game, then turn around and say this guy empowered white supremacist, just go, go away, you lost. lou: kellyanne conway told her that. >> very effectively. lou: i just wondered why would it not have occurred of this white house to call victims of ohio state university attack, but it occurred to donald trump to visit with them.
why would it not aoccur to this white house to call police officer who shot that asalent, donald trump went to him. this is a whole other construct. this is about the heart and soul of this country. >> it's called leadership, simply leadership. lou: no question. >> he promised to be a president for all americans, he is demonstrating that, he is with the people, i love he went out today, he did it privately, he it meetings with the families, with the victims, he went to police officer's family, that is very impressive for those who say he is out for show, he handled this arole yeahapope appropriately it was heartfelt, i applause the president-elect for this. lou: polling reflects it but there is a physical sense of
it. this president standing in mark contrast to the current president. that is he likes people. he likes being in fronts of them, he likes thinking about them, hig he likes talking with them, he likes connecting with them. here is a man who a is a billion air he gave up his comfort, his time that he had for himself for his family and sacrificed it to run for president, now to serve the people. this is truly a moment in history, that is going to be bright and bold you know for the ages, i believe. >> and biggest thing i think, is that donald trump loves america. and knows what it stands for. he is proud of what it stands for. the current president, i know he loves america but you know --
lou: do you? in all seriousness. >> i think he does. lou: i don't see it in any of his actions, i am not criticizing -- i guess i am. but there is no connection in an attempt to be leader of all of people. >> no question that donald trump does love america and doesn't what he stand for, he is proud of what we stand for he wants to strive to stand for it better going forward that is what -- that more than anything is what we need in a president. lou: tonight, lee as we wrap up, this president will be talking to a number of folks over the course of the next few weeks here in his thank you tour. many of the speeches are very. the same.

we were together last night, he is a great guy. a general's general they call him. earlier this week, i announced my plans to nominate him as your now secretary of defense. i believe we're in the process of putting together one of the great cabinets that has ever been assembled in the history of our nation. do you like it so far everybody? i also want to take this opportunity to thank your great senators. chuck grassley, great guy, really great. and a woman i have gotten to know very well, a tremendous woman, phenomenal 57, that is right, joanie.
they are right now in washington d.c. working hard on something that have very interesting. but they are tremendous, they never waiverred, we have some people they would waive ir waiver, right, as long as they came back prior to the vote we were all right. we don't like people that waiver, right? they did not. i tell you who else did not waiver? your governor, i tell you that. not even a little bit. soon i am going to invite on to stage, one of the newest additions to our administration, a man you know well. one of the most important relationship we must improve, we have to improve, is our relationship with china.
the nation of china is responsible for almost half of america's trade deficit. china is not a market economy. they got a lot of help, that is why we designate them as a nonmarket economy. big thing. they have not played by the rules. and i know it's time they are going to start, they will start. they have to. we're all in this together, folks. we have to play by the rules, folks. you have the massive theft of intellectual property, putting unfair taxes on our companies, not helping with the menace of nok knock like the north korea nok like they should. and devaluation of their currenciy and product dumping, other than they, they have been wonderful. i have to tell you, the man
that is going to becoming up here, very soon, every single time i have spoken, as i am going to the stage, he said, please mr. trump, he would say don't say anything bad about china when you are in iowa. i said why, he said i have so many trends there -- friends there i like them, they like me, and we do well with china. when it came to thinking about the ambassador to china, i started saying wait this is big stuff, i can't tell you how many people wanted that position. you know it is not bad you go over there you live like a king.
but sneet looking tis not looking to live like a king, he and his beautiful wife came to my office, they are working on that relationship, he knew your current leader yearing, he said he will be the ultimate leader, you have a special man. the man i have chosen as our ambassador to china is the man who knows china and likes china. it is better to like china if you are going to be over there. and knows how to deliver results, he will deliver results, just like he has been delivering results for 23 years for the great farmers and for the people of iowa. he has been on 6 trade missions to china.
and is highly respected by all of the chinese officials. he also is a native of iowa. america's longest serving governor in the history of our country. 23 years. think of that in in the history, you don't know what it is, to be a governor for 4 years is tough, 23 years? and has done an incredible job, and he has also become a great friend of mine, i am. now honored to welcome to the stage our next ambassador to china. your governor, i can say your great governor, terry branstad, come up terry. [applause]
[cheers and applause] >> he is going to do so great, with terry on our side, i know we'll succeed in bringing our jobs back, i know that china has been so tough and competitive, and dealing with people that did not get it. but i tell you what, we'll have mutual respect, mutual respect, china will benefit and we'll benefit. and terry will lead the way. i just want to congratulate him. , to accomplishing our goals we must reject the failed approaches of the past, government must stop listening to the special interests and start delivering for the national interest.
it is time to deliver for you the american people, just like iowa delivered for me. boy, did you deliver. boy, did you deliver. you know just to go into this for a second, we won almost every countingy in this state, over 20 points, we won one count that was not won since eisenhower. and we had a great night, iowa was announced very early, so was ohio, we won ohio by almost 9 points. we were expected to win ohio by 2 or 3 that made the other side nervous. and then my friend, right in this room got announce, right, we won by 10.
then when they looked at the map of iowa, they say almost every single county and it was incredible. others says maybe they were flukes then we won florida and south carolina and north carolina. and we won pennsylvania. and we won fish michigan and wisconsin and georgia. and texas. and utah. were utah? remember utah? they said this by -- this unknown person. that he is doing so well, remember? they said, utah is in play, nobody -- no republicans ever lost utah, i said we have problem, utah is in play, there is a guy that i never saw him, he is supposed to be doing well. and it was like, we're tied.
they had hillary in third, this is a case i wanted her to be in second, this by supposedly was in second place, they said, texas, right, they said texas. very close. georgia close. they had us so close, too close to call, before the election, then the election. now the polls open, and they go, texas goes to trump. georgia goes to trump, utah -- right at the beginning, i won them in landslides, i said what has been going on, right in for last 10 weeks? there in play, you know that expression, they are in play, meaning they are close.
the polls opened up they said trump wins texas trump wins all of them, but they said very important to me, trump wins iowa. that was a big one. a big one. that was a big one, numbers were so big, for the rest of the night the other guy saids this is a big number. that is more than we were suosedlosey, so i love you, fks that sort of a thank you. and a thank you iowa, and thank you ohio, and pennsylvania, and north carolina, and florida and lot of the states that so crucial. and ne nebraska, a few from neb b nebraska. we won nebraska too. right, nebraska goes twice we won it twice. we had a lot of people in nebraska, a lot of good wealthy people fighting us,
that did not work. those wealthy people are not so unhappy right now, stock market has gone up so much because of us, those wealthy people just got wealth year ier, right about they were busing people from all over we still won both. american worker, built this nation and now it's time are in american workers to have a government, that for the first time in decades answers to them. we're going to answer to them, my plan begins with bald struckal reform to create millions of really good paying jobs. job rs. . >> whether agriculture, medicine, military or technology, we' next generation of innovation and producttion to happen right here in america, right here in
iowa. first on taxes we'll undertake one of great tax reforms and simplifications, in american history, it has to be simpler. too much work too complicated, at the center of this plane is for tax relief. the american middle class has been forgotten, boy did they come out and vote, i think that both parties to a certain extend, they forgot about those people, that is why i call them the forgotten men and forgotten women. we're going to lower our business tax rate from 35% all the way down to 15% ! that is going on be great.
prime the pump. prime the pump, get the jobs. we have 96 million people, we have to get them going, they want to work, they gave up looking for jobs, they will have their choice of jobs now, you watch, that would be nice if you go home to your wife or husband, and you say, harry or sally, i don't know which one to take, i have so many options, i have so many options. please sally help me choose. but will have options, you have not had that for a long time, you take what you can ge we'll havoptions, on regulation, we'll eliminate every single wasteful regulation hurts our farmers, workers and small business, you saw today, scott pruitt, who is a trim to u tremendous guy met with applause from the business community, we'll
protect the family farm, we're going to end the epa instruction into your lives. [cheers and applause] on energy, we will cancel job killing restricts on the product of american energy. that means lower energy prices for farmers, households and small businesses in iowa and all over the u.s. we will also pursue an agenda of conserv conservation protecting our beautiful natural resources for future americans, and we'll ensure clean air and clean water, for all of our people. regulations by the way, will be cut down to a fraction of what they are now, believe it or not, environmentally you will be protected better, and
we'll have jobs, okay, we'll have jobs. on infrastructure, i am going to ask congress to pass legislation that produces $1 trillion of new investment in america's crumbling infrastructure. it is crumbling. that includes major new products for both rural communities and inner-cities, which have also been forgotten . we will put our people -- not people from other lands. our people back to work in the process. okay? [cheers and applause] it's time to help morning get off of welfare. get back into the labor market, they are going to want to do it. they are going to want to do it rebuilding this nation, be american hand -- with american
hands by american workers, we're going to have people that have not worked for years, they will love working, they will love it they will be incentivized. my administration will follow two simple rules, buy american and hire american. [cheers and applause] remember years ago we used to proudly display made in the usa, you get a car, right? it said made in the usa, have you seen it 123? ien to see it and more. any of manufacturer doing a lot of talking to companies who were thinking about leaving, i don't think they will be leave so fast any more, they are not leaving so fast any more. because we love our companies, we love it when they employee
thousands of people. but we don't love th the companies when they leave and go to another country, and think they can make their product and sell it back to our country like we're a bunch of fools like they have been getting away with for the last 35 year, not going to do it nope. they will be consequences, when that i want to leave, i wish them well. i always say, enjoy your new plant, the hot weather. but if you think you are going to come through what will be a very, very strong boarder, no. not going to happen so easily. we're not the stupid people any more, we're not going to bto be the stupid people, from now on, it's america first, very simple. you know some of the deals made i've been studying them. i have been studying some of
the deals they are horrible. they are inconceivable. we have great news for you, on trade, that frayed deficit, now nearly 800 billion will do ar-- dollars a year. everyone said we trade, but, that it has to make sense. you don't want to trade if you lose 800 billion dollars a year. it is a concoul chronic drag the and growth and a destroyer of jobs in our country, so we don't want that any more. and by the way, some of the people i put on to negotiate, you have been noticing are some of the most successful people in the world, a newspaper criticized me, why can't they have people of modest means, because i want people to made a fortune, now they negotiate with you, okay.
no different than a great baseball player, or a great golfer, we want the people that are going to bring -- they are so proud to do it, they are giving up fortunes of income to make a dollar a year. they are proud to do it you watch, you watch what is going to happen, it going to happen fast too. fast. very fast. we actually have -- we have been given tremendous reviews on people we've got, that is why we'll renegotiate our trade deals, stop the product dumping, currency manipulation, which is out of control, by the way, makes it impossible for our companies to compete. and defend every last american job. it is going to be fun.
actually, love calling the companies. i say, give me a list of 10 companies that are leaving, i actually love calling the companies. saying hi, i get that president of the company. and i say, how are you. hello mr. president-elect. >> yes. >> by the way don't leave. we had great success. you will see a lot more success. on the military, we'll show the world that america is strong again. we'll have a very strong military. [cheers and applause] there is rarely been a team when we needed a strong military. and a smart military, more than we have now. right? rarely been a time, we'll rebuild our badly depleted military. and ensure that our service
members have the equipment, training, technology, and resources, they need to get the job done. to get t the job done. now, i have to say, hopefully we'll never have to use the power that we're building. we don't want to use it we lieve in peace. through strength. we don't top use it but it has to be there it has to be there at the same time, we will ensure our veterans have best medal care in the world including best healthcare for female veterans who have also been the forgotten people. there are a lot of forgotten people in this country. a lot of them. strongly focused on female veterans who had it tougher than almost anyone. on child care, thank you. that is nice. on child care, i am asking
congress to pass legislation to make safe and afford able child kara, sessible to all while fighting to get higher pay for women in the workforce, that is what has to happen. and ensuring that women owned small bees can access -- businesses can access capital they need, we'll work on plans for companies not only women but company to aaccess the capital from banks, right now there is no capital, you can't get a loan, you will get a loin and do great, and we're going to hire a lot of people, your business is going to do great, it will be a beautiful thing it has to happen. so many people can't get jobs. the unemployment number is fiction. if you look for a job, for 6 months then you give up, they
consider you, you give up. you go home, you say i can't get a job, they consider you statistically, emptied. it's not -- employed. it's not that way, it will take care of itself. we want to support every young woman in america who dreams of owning a small business. on healthcare reform, i want to tell you, i want to than the women, i kept hearing for months, i'm not doing to do well with women, i said why, what is wrong with women, i said i'll trade the men for the women. right. i'll trade the men, i want -- and then we had the election, i did great with women. i lead in many categories. and every time we had a rally,y would have beautiful
pink signs women for trump. women for trump, but it home, i turn on television, to see how massive my crowd was, and you never show it, they never did. but, they talk about women, guess what. we did great with women. african-american, the african-american communities, unpolice officer able unbelievable. much more than the past, i heard that was going to be off it was fantastic. a lot did not go out and vote for hillary in all fairness, hispanic community incredible. with males i set records but who care, right? i'd like to switch it set records with women but we did well with women. we did well with all groups, i tell you where we really did well, all-time world record not close. evangelicals.
i love you. evangelicals. we had such great help, pastors, ministers, such great help. i won't go to great detail, but we'll get rid of the jan johjohnsonment amendment, i promise that you. on health care reform, every day, law known as obamacare. is destabilizing our healthcare system, surging premiums and forcing providers out of the market, they are out of the market. nobody to talk to. nobody. if we don't act quickly, the damage will be irreversible, our country conditio can't afford it, that is why we will
and must repeal and replace obamacare, we have no choice. you know premiums, in some states, great state of arizona, another one i won by a lot. this is like a lot of fun. but arizona of great to my, but obamacare is up 1/16%. 116%, and going higher, we're going to get that taken care of. on crime, murder rate hasek pehas experienced largest increase in 45 years, we're going to support the incredible men and women of law enforcement. doe [cheers and applause] we are going to bring this terrible crime wave to an end. on immigration, we will build
the wall. [cheers and applause] we will put an end to illegal immigration. and stop the drugs from pouring into our country, the drugs thatture pouring in. poisoning our youth and plenty of others. we will stop the drug from pouring in to the country. we will stop the drugs from poisoning our great and beautiful and loving youth. okay? we have a man that we'll introduce, soon next week. he is going to do a phenomenal job, called homeland security, he was a political appointment now the most important appointment. he will do a terrific job.
