and see him in part because they say he has already done a few things. they mention the carrier deal and some of his cabinet picks. they are excited here that a politician came back to des moines so soon, they have to wait a couple years until caucus campaigning gets going. they get to see the next president here just a few weeks after he appeared in the state, whichy -- he easily won. lou: he also, he named branstad, their governor ambassador to china. peter thank you.
we appreciate it. i know you will be there following the events as we, bringing it to our audience live throughout. joining me now, carter, and charlie. i got a kick out of what peter said, people in iowa are not used to having love returned so quickly. iowa certainly does not have anet opean esteem problem i hope. >> you know, it's funny, iowa gets ignored for 3 1/2 years every election cycle, then you know every 4 years it is you know for a year it is saturated with coverage. then they are ignored again. i can imagine this is straimplstrange to them.
but this is all part of how donald trump is redoing things, it sort of feels like he is already president, he is doing things that the current president did not ever do. our president now uses bully pulpit to do stupid things. this -- and trump he is doing -- he is using it for all of things it is used for. lou: this president is turning orthodoxy, conventional thought and wisdom, on its head. there is such a sense of i don't know if it is optimism or a fresh wind blowing right now.
it is making a difference. >> a very palpable difference. people are feeling more optimistic. there is more consumer confidence. people are excited, enthused that things are going right direction. lou: this is your polling? >> it is. forget that most times president don't go to iowa, most times, they don't go back into the country, he is going state by state to thank the voters. he has demonstrated actions and he is going to continue to hammer and talk about the,s that are important that goes a long way to give people confidence. lou: some might in some quarters of this country, might get a sense that things are rosie now, and take it for granted. granted.
i want to share jim palmieri, a washington post op-ed saying this. a reminder of what we might have had, had it been a hillary clinton president-elect period. >> i know how to be a gracious loser, it is time for president-elect to acknowledge how his campaign empowered right supremacist. >> i am so disappointed in that. lou: can we get away from the ignorance of the left. its irrelevan irrelevant. we have escaped through the presidency of donald trump. should we not express our gratitude daily? >> i tell you, i read that with much amusement, jen palmieri has been part of
political establishment in washington that has turned politics to a racialized thing like we've never seen before. they used demographic, they slice and dice the electorate into race, they peddle messages to different races, this is the most ununifying thing. democrats far worse about it than republicans are, for her to have lost with that same racialized game, then turn around and say this guy empowered white supremacist, just go, go away, you lost. lou: kellyanne conway told her that. >> very effectively. lou: i just wondered why would it not have occurred of this white house to call victims of ohio state university attack, but it occurred to donald trump to visit with them.
why would it not aoccur to this white house to call police officer who shot that asalent, donald trump went to him. this is a whole other construct. this is about the heart and soul of this country. >> it's called leadership, simply leadership. lou: no question. >> he promised to be a president for all americans, he is demonstrating that, he is with the people, i love he went out today, he did it privately, he it meetings with the families, with the victims, he went to police officer's family, that is very impressive for those who say he is out for show, he handled this arole yeahapope appropriately it was heartfelt, i applause the president-elect for this. lou: polling reflects it but
there is a physical sense of it. this president standing in mark contrast to the current president. that is he likes people. he likes being in fronts of them, he likes thinking about them, hig he likes talking with them, he likes connecting with them. here is a man who a is a billion air he gave up his comfort, his time that he had for himself for his family and sacrificed it to run for president, now to serve the people. this is truly a moment in history, that is going to be bright and bold you know for the ages, i believe. >> and biggest thing i think, is that donald trump loves america. and knows what it stands for. he is proud of what it stands for. the current president, i know he loves america but you know
-- lou: do you? in all seriousness. >> i think he does. lou: i don't see it in any of his actions, i am not criticizing -- i guess i am. but there is no connection in an attempt to be leader of all of people. >> no question that donald trump does love america and doesn't what he stand for, he is proud of what we stand for he wants to strive to stand for it better going forward that is what -- that more than anything is what we need in a president. lou: tonight, lee as we wrap up, this president will be talking to a number of folks over the course of the next few weeks here in his thank you tour. many of the speeches are very. the same.
it is quite startling. >> i think he is going out to say, let everyone know what he is going to do, computer said well -- peter said well, a lot of people bought his promises now they want to know what he is doing next. lou: i love that line return customers. >> people are hungry for details, he is hitting on many of same issues. >> he seems to be high lights on the issues. lou: who he wants as secretary of state. >> right. lou: i doubt that. lee carty thank you, and charlie thank you. >> coming up next, the ma the man that we've been talking about and wait ogden don about to hold his rally in des moines, iowa.
that's why i have the spark cash card from capital one. with it, i earn unlimited 2% cash back on all of my purchasing. and that unlimited 2% cash back from spark means thousands of dollars each year going back into my business... which adds fuel to my bottom line. what's in your wallet? ...one of many pieces in my i havlife.hma... so when my asthma symptoms kept coming back on my long-term control medicine. i talked to my doctor and found a missing piece in my asthma treatment with breo. once-daily breo prevents asthma symptoms. breo is for adults with asthma not well controlled on a long-term asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid. breo won't replace a rescue inhaler for sudden breathing problems. breo opens up airways to help improve breathing for a full 24 hours. breo contains a type of medicine that increases the risk of death from asthma problems and may increase the risk of hospitalization in children and adolescents.
breo is not for people whose asthma is well controlled on a long-term asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid. once your asthma is well controlled, your doctor will decide if you can stop breo and prescribe a different asthma control medicine, like an inhaled corticosteroid. do not take breo more than prescribed. see your doctor if your asthma does not improve or gets worse. ask your doctor if 24-hour breo could be a missing piece for you. see if you're eligible for 12 months free at mybreo.com.
donald trump to take the stage at his rally, his thank you rally in des moines, let's go to that video show everyone what the iowa event center looks like as they wait, rather particularrantly -- expectantly there, i cannot see well enough to see who is at the podium. meanwhile. that place that space is reserved for honored guest who is throwing the thank you party that is donald trump. we'll go to the iowa even in a moment, we're told that jen palmieri is out of a job, perhaps out of her mind, writing in a washington post op-ed, i don't know whether the trump campaign needed to give a platform to white
supremacist to win, but the campaign clearly did. trump campaign manager kellyanne conway clashed with palmieri saying it was hillary clinton's inabilbility to connect. >> it did. >> you are going to look me in the face. >> do you think you could have had a decent message. >> you think that woman. >> over 200 counties that president obama won and donald trump won, you think that is just of what you said or people are not ready for a woman president, really? how about it is hillary clinton. he ishe does not connection with people, how about you have no economic message. lou: how about kellyanne conway. it was not a fair fight,
kellyanne was gracious in victory. joining me now daniel helper and ned ryan. >> thank you. lou: let's start if i may daniel with you, this president elect seems to be able to exceed almost every particular as president-elect do you agree? >> absolutely, in fairness expectations are so low amopping people like jennifer palmieri they make it easier for him to do it. lou: i am discounting palmieri by the way who is out of her mind. that is the most ignore an classless thing she could have said, and she knows it. >> he as exceeded almost every expectation that -- lou: i apologize, governor pence, we have a break we'll com come back if you stand by with us.
