in a surprise first lady gave the announcement argo won best picture. the humble ben affleck got his moment to shine. >> gentle grudges. it doesn't matter how you get knocked down in life because that's going to happen. all that matters is you got to get up. >> very true. steven spielberg won bers director and lee took home the gold for the daring movie life of sy. daniel day-lewis won best ak fo tore for his portrayal of the former president. he was the first ever to win three best actor oscars. >> jennifer lawrence for her role in silver lining play books. she tripped on the way to the stage.

killed we see her smiling as she drives into oscar pistorius' apartment complex. reeva didn't plan on going there but went when she was too tired to drive. she was not only shot in the head they said her head was bashed in he mistook her for a burglar he said. oo oo one of the bigs cagest ca of its kind. the bp oil spill trial will begin. they are looking at the cause of the spill and find responsibility for all involved. it left 11 workers dead and estimated 4 billion barrels of oil into the bull of over 84 days. bp agreed to pay 4.5 billion instead of criminal charges related to the spill. >> cardinals all over the world

are on their way to rome to see pope benedict xvi. he gave his final blessing on a sunday to a massive crowd at the vatican. he will make his final public pier rance wednesday and official stlips down thursday. the cardinals will decide when to begin the conclave. archbishop washington will help choose the new hope but he doubts it will be an american. >> i don't think it will be who is supposed to be reminding them the responsibility to build peace. >> they hope to have the new hope in place by holy week. >> jimmy johnson does it again at daytona. >> the daytona 500 goes to jimmy johnson five time champion from california. >> congrats to him. johnson starting the season with

his second win at daytona. he is the 10th driver to do that. the first women winning the poll for daytona that is the highest finish ever for a woman. that's your 5 at 5:00. >> heather is the new car racing expert around here. >> the area hit by a blizzard while many are recovering a record breaking snowstorm. they are expected to drop another foot of snow on areas stretching from texas to kansas. big concern the road conditions. maria molina is tracking this storm and she has the latest for us. >> good morning everyone. we are tracking a brand new storm system exiting the rockies to bring snow to areas that that you record show new england across parts of new hampshire

southern main saw ten inches of snow across this area. significant snowfall this storm pulling out of the region. new today will be a finer day across the area. we have blizzard warnings across the pannhandle texas, oklahoma. these athey are expecting some f the worst conditions through the overnight hours. that's when we will be seeing more significant snowfall accumulations. winter storm warnings posted as well. as when heed further fartoward north and east chicago you are under a winter storm watch because you could be seeing significant snow from this storm system otherwise the southern form of it tornadoes damaging wind gusts large hail through texas through the florida panhandle. widespread area that could be looking at severe weather today. >> maria molina, thanks. >> oo hamid karzai taking troops

out of a crucial region. karzai ordered special forces to leave the pro dense and killing. >> hamid karzai made these allegations among afghan linked to u.s. special forces in the providence. the afghan claims some of that misconduct includes the beheading of a stew p dent. it is a key location for insurgency efforts. certain armed individuals linked causing insect and instability. in a statement gaven stan national security council claims u.s. special forces stationed in that providence are quote engaging and harassing annoying

torturing and even murdering innocent people. the afghans further state that misconduct is causing local public resentment and hatred. in addition it goes on to saying bombing intelligence officials which is nearby providence as well. claims u.s. special forces are discussing the providence. they want the u.s. to handle individuals allegedly involved in the actions for misconduct and stating for the u.s. special forces get out of that area in the next two weeks. u.s. forces are basically saying, quote, we take all allegations of misconduct seriously and go to great lengths to investigate them. that's all of the further comment we are getting now from the u.s. military as they continue to wait to talk to the afghan officials to find out more details.

>> thank you reporting to us from washington. take a look at who is talking and the big chatter in the nation's capital the looming sequestor. we are four-days away from the $85 billion of spending cuts. in this moment it doesn't seem congress reach add deal. >> in washington you have a large kabuki going on about who will be blamed. no question these thoughts are going to be painful and they are thoughtless. i know tom coburn and i agree on that. we need to do more spending cutting. we agree on that. why is it that we want come to the table and agree what cuts need to happen. that's what we should be doing. we shouldn't be passing the blame to the executive branch and saying this is obama's sequestor. the republicans supported this i supported it. we need to come together to make

the right cuts. >> president obama is warning of dire consequences. >> our recommendation to the president is it is stop campaigning. last year we passed one of the most sweeping education reformulas in the country giving real choice to our kids putting right teachers in the classroom we have significant tax reform. my advice is stop the campaigning stop the cabinet secretary from scaring the american people roll up your sleeves and do the and use the revenues to lower tax rates so we don't have the highest corporate income tax rates. >> coming up at 7:00 a.m. donald trump gives his take on the

the driver continues. and a terrifying ride for four people on board this plane. take a look. after it crashes into the waters it flips over amazingly no one was hurt. managed to climb out of the plane. they were pulled to safety by police. the plane lost power to the right engine while headed for key west. no word on why. patti ann? >> now to stories you can bank on this morning. if you thought plane fares couldn't get any higher you were wrong. lauren simonetti is here with the fox business network to explain. >> if you were looking to fly somewhere this year the message is book the airline ticket sooner rather than later. domestic air fair expect to do rise 4.6 percent this year. international affairs by 8.3 percent that according to a survey of travel managers. the reason business travel demand is up from companies ready to take advantage of new business opportunities in a

strengthening economy. industry experts say expect to see new air fare hikes every two months or so. >> great. so yahoo meanwhile does not want the employees to work from home. >> this is a trend we have seen with child care issues and high cost of transportation. no more working from home that is the message from marissa meyer. she sent a message to the remote employees they have to begin working in offices if they do not want to they can quit. to become the absolute best place to work communication and collaboration will be important. we need to be working side by side. that is why it is critical we are all present in our offices some of the best decisions and insights come from hallway and cafeteria discussions meeting these people in impromptu team meetings. >> interesting for a company like yahoo. >> fascinating.

that is consumer savings expert andrea warrick. >> we can always use tips to save money and i know one of them don't go to the grocery store hungry. >> exactly. you will start filling up your cart with unnecessary food items. >> you have another one. your first tip is don't use a cart. >> that is a very interesting tip. do you notice the carts are getting bigger and bigger? they are designed to encourage you to fill them up with a ton of groceries. if you use a hand basket you will realize when you are throwing in unnecessary goods or impulse buys. you are making those quick trips with the shorter list use a hand basket instead you will be less likely to buy on impulse. >> the other tip i know this is a good tip. i am notorious for this because it's easier. you shouldn't buy the precut the prepackaged vegetables. >> that also goes with shredded cheese or even cut up meats for

the grill and whatnot. you are looking at paying 30-60 percent markup. you are paying for convenience. when it comes to vegetables you are also losing out on some of the nutrients when they are cut up and prebagged for you. if it only takes you 5-10 minutes do it yourself you could save a bundle of money and if time is an issue pick a saturday or sunday afternoon and do all of your chopping and shredding of your cheeses or take the big potato chips and put them into zip-loc bags. oo bean and stretch your way to bert prices. >> they put more at the eye level of the consumer because it's the first product they look and first they grab. if you shop high and shop low you will find better prices. always look for the price per unit to determine the lowest and best. >> one minute left. shop with gift cards and beware of the checkout line. >> you can find discount gift cards for supermarket at gift

spending cuts. the president's secretary of transportation. >> it is a billion dollars faa has biggest number of plies at dot. >> trips to the overall federal budget has very, very small cuts. they have warned of things like massive airport checkpoint delays worse case scenario doesn't material lies some friday or shortly there after it will bolster republican claims. >> to not cut 2 and a half percent out of the total budget over a year when it was twice the size it was 10 years ago, give me a break. >> meantime the president insistence on raising tacks to avert the sequestor er is a nonstarter for the gop. they are coming up with a better system of cuts where you would allow agencies to come up with

their own combination give them a little bit more authority. we will see where that goes as we get closer and closer to the deadline. the president this week is going to be talking a lot about the approaching pentagon. the pentagon real blares the brunt of the sequestor kwuts. th -- cuts. >> doug luzader joining us live this morning. thank you, doug. >> bracing for more. many people in the central plains and the u.s. are realing from record snowfall. they are getting another twirn blast. the blizzard expected to drop another foot of snow from areas of texas and kansas. that's on top of the foot of snow people are still working to clean up right now. let's head over to maria molina to find out the latest and when we will have relief headed their way. >> looks like as we head into later in the day many areas will see improvement through texas and oklahoma and kansas. by tuesday it will move on to

chicago where it could dump over 6 inches of snow becoming the most significant snowstorm so far they have seen this season. so this storm system going to produce across the central plains before heading east into the great lakes by tomorrow. it is already bringing down pretty heavy snowfall through portions of the texas panhandle oklahoma and kansas. this is where we have blizzard warnings in effect. up to 18 inches in some areas but strong winds over 30 miles per hour. that will produce dangerous conditions on the roadways. on the southern side we had severe weather. from eastern texas kansas city and even georgia looking for the possibility of tornadoes damaging wind gusts. as if all of that wasn't enough

good condition this morning. five of the patients were discharged from here they were brought to the medical center after a horrific terrifying crash saturday. we had an opportunity to talk to one of the patients brought here. his name is eddy huckabee. he and his older brother was here in daytona beach for the race. he suffered severe lacerations to his leg after shrapnel and debris from the car flew into his leg. he under went surgery and he is expected to be here for the next 48-hours. even some injured here that remain in stable condition say they would do it again and would sit in the same seats the experience being that close to the nascar race is what makes it thrilling and exciting.

here with the numbers is diane macedo from the fox business network. good morning diane. >> gas prices are continuing their record setting climb here. it is under 3.78 cents the heist it has err been for this time of year. $0.43 jump from where it was a month ago. this year's run up isn't only larger and faster than recent years but it is beginning earlier than usual due in part to u.s. refineries performing seasonal nans and making the switch over to summer blend gasoline earlier in the year. another reason for the price shock is a fear factor unrest in the middle east particularly in syria and iran. the site has drivers and analysts alike wondering how high prices will go and when they will begin to retreat. the good news there is triple a is projecting the price this
