hawaii. he won mississippi with 47 percent of the vote. cruz 36, kasich 8, rubio 5. ted cruz defied expectations winning idaho finishing second in mississippi. the one state that trump did not win of course was idaho. ted cruz took that state with 45 percent of the vote. had a surprisingly strong night. he was fist in idaho, second in mississippi, second in michigan. kasich had been hoping to take that title from krudz in michigan. he's focused entirely on the state next door his home state, ohio. >> i think when we win next tuesday it sends a message, but we are going to send a message to the world that positive ideas coupled with vision and accomplishment lifting everyone and getting us to remember we are americans, frankly americans before we are republicans and democrats and conservative presence pells will wo-- princi will work to say this country.

with the concept sink or swim. there's a hole for rubio for sure. we are americans. we like to take winners. it is hard to pick you to stop someone else at this point. that will be rubio's biggest problem. he's asking them to pick him to stop trump rather than pick him as a winner. that's a tough sell right now. >> that's the same thing cruz is doing as well. guy, also a problem for john kasich in ohio is that a mugst win for him? >> you have two must wins. the way things are shaping up, anything is possible. we have seen convicting poll numbers, but if donald trump can win florida and/or ohio, he will then really set a narrative as a prohibitive frontrunner. if you are a cruz fan or a kasich fan living in florida, you might not love rubio, but he needs your vote there and the inverse is true with kasich in ohio. but donald trump loopiking stro

>> it's interesting listening to ted cruz really hitting the idea of a potential contested convention. that might be his only path to victory if donald trump continues to role the way he is. cruz is keeping it contested on delegat delegates. depends how things shape up on tuesday. if it does come down to a scenario where it is a contested convention in cleveland, that can only happen because voters decide if that happens. it is not the party elders come in with puppet strings and say let's try to contest a convention. the only way it happens is if voters deny donald trump the requisite majority to clinch the nomination. probably get a good indication soon on whether or not he is on track to do that or whether or not it could be chaos in ohio this summer. >> many more long nights for all of us that's what it would mean.

voters in michigan were concerned about jobs. 7 out of 10 democratic voters were concerned about seeing the direct correlation. i see that message coming from sanders resinates a little bit more than clinton. a lot of these voters were around or were aware of what happened in the 90's with her husband's record and where she voted on trade issues while she was in the senate and continued to orchestrate tpp while she was secretary of state. bernie sanders is going to stick around for a while. we play the match up game against hillary clinton. who has a better chance at beating trump in a general election, hillary or bernie sanders, what is your thought on that? >> it looks like trump will be the nominee particularly after last night. >> the matt is adding up for him. >> i think clinton would be a stronger match up because of the
democratic breakdown. our young people there as well particularly white men. which is where trump is pulling from within republicans. he performed much better with men than women. we can't have a full presidential campaign that is just a battle for white men. that is not what we can do right now. >> i have heard from voters who are deciding against done nald trump or bernie sanders. sanders beats trump 49 percent to 20 percent. >> that's more than hillary clinton. speaking of this sanders beat the republican candidates as well. he is the only one who beat the republican candidates in that match up. it is about the working class vote there.
they will be battling those two demographics out. she will lose those demographics that democrats need to win in the general election. they think women won't turnout. of course they will turnout to vote against donald trump. millennial women as we have seen are voting for bernie sanders. i can expect if bernie sanders is the nominee we might have the highest turnout in history with donald trump's weird turnout with the organization on his side and democratic side with bernie sanders. >> i want both of your response with the broker pd convention. are democrats secretly hoping this will show this is not necessarily healthy for the party to go through? >> it is. we are living in a fascinating day in history. i think last night's turnout in the states that were on the republican side show more han anything that establishment republicans have really been doubling down and heavily investing in rubio.
he did am bomb inbly. i think the primaries on both sides keep it relevant which is good for democracy overall. i do not love the tone of the conversation where it has been going. i think it is gad to keep it going so they stay on the stage. it keeps them from beating each other up and they don't focus on it going forward. >> anything can happen. >> let's head over to you. >> the time is 20 minutes until the top of the hour. brand new evidence to tell you about. does the convicted killer have an air tight alibi. from bad to worse more fallout for chipolte why another restaurant dojust shut down. dog isn't just man's best
