9:00 pm
the rest of that is tomorrow. that's it for us right now. were going to have so much more later tonight, but first we are on the scene tonight and
9:01 pm
alexandria, virginia, where earlier i today, and anti-trump left-wing gunmen targeted and firedef a hail of bullets at republican lawmakers who are practicing for a charity baseball game. that was going to plague take place tomorrow night. minority whip steve scalise was shot in the hip. three others were also wounded. we have dramatic video tonight that captures the beginning of this rampage. take a look ate. this. >> do we know where he's at?
9:02 pm
>> he's behind home plate. >> stayed on! >> sean : and here's more of how this horrifying scene played out here in alexandria. shortly after 7:30 today thisut morning, a gunman opened fire on members of congress. >> they asked me if this team was the republican or democrat team. i responded that it was the republican team practicing, and he proceeded to shoot republicans. t >> congressman steve scalise was shot and badly wounded. >> one staffer was shot. he ran with his wounds to the dugout. >> the heroes of the police officers who attacked the
9:03 pm
shooter, and in doing so, probably saved many, many lives. >> an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. [applause] >> sean : and earlier tonight, president trump and the first lady, melania trump, visited the hospital where congressman steve scalise is being treated tonight. our thoughts and prayers are obviously with him. his family, and the other victims, and of course their families. joining us now with reactions, congressman, who says he spoke with a gunman moments before the shooting. congressman mark walker, who says the suspect planned to kill as many republicans as possiblep and also with us, congressman bill johnson and robert marshall, and they are on the congressional baseball team.
9:04 pm
they were not on the scene when the shooting actually occurred. >> so we had finished batting practice, and he ridesti with me to the park, and he said, when you want to leave. i said, we can leave at any time. and then chairman conway was in the batter's box, so when he finished, we walked off the field and walked by scalise. i talked to gary who was standing beside him for a brief moment, and then ron and i walked to the car. on the waye to the car, we encountered an individual who asked me, who was practicing today. republicans or democrats? i said this is the republican team, he saidd okay thanks. turned around and walked apparently to his car. we didn't find out about the shooting until we got back to capitol hill. >> i know they show to the picture of him, because he also talked to sanders, who was with you.
9:05 pm
>> sean : had to be scary from your site. >> looking back at it, i could have been the first victim had he chose to start right there in the parking lot. luckily he didn't. we are all praying for steve scalise and the officers that showed today, taking on an activeat shooter. not just the law enforcement, the staffers that were there that were wounded, but also our teammates who applied tourniquet's and covered each other. it just amazing stories that you hear from this. >> sean : i heard mo brooks in particular put a tourniquet on the congressional agent. >> just a lot of stories my colleagues will tell you, but, i ended up going back down to the alexandria police department to provide a statement and giving them a layout of the baseball field. described the guy that i
9:06 pm
encountered who ultimately was the shooter, and described him to a t. it's absolutely no doubt. >> sean : the guy that talk to you? you are right next to congressman scalise when this happen. this had to be a scary expanse for you too. >> i heard the gunshot and knew immediately what it was. i'll yelled at trent that there was a gunshot, and trent said, yeah, he's got a gun! get out of here. we started trying to get to cover, and at least two more shots were fired and i saw steve get hit. i saw him go down. >> i'm hearing the shots, he's throwing off a lot of shots. >> i knew steve was hit low, i didn't know if he was hip in the hip or the like. we got through the gate and the fence behind an oak tree, and it
9:07 pm
steve crawling out of the infield. >> was he still trying to shoot specifically? >> at that point, sean, i think he was trying to shoot people who are trying to get in the dugout. i was yelling at steve to stay down, to stay still. the shooter then moved from the third-base side around to where we were, and special agent david bailey and special agent crystal greiner, they ran to the gun. >> sean : this is important to note, and you will tell me i'm wrong, they were out in the open? this guy's got a rifle and they had pistols. >> yeah. when heot moved around, they mod back around, and at some point, easpecial agent greiner was hitn the ankle. i saw her pull herself up on the suv to continue firing on the sky. they saved our lives. >> sean : you are very close to scalise. he goes down, how early the when
9:08 pm
the incident starts. >> probably second or third shot. when we were moving toward that gate, steve was to my left a little bit ahead of me, and i saw him get hit and go down. i want to say it was the third shot. >> sean : who was playing the third-base? it was almost point-blank range. >> trent kelly. w i could not believe he missed him. it was a miracle. >> sean : he shot right at him. >> he shot his first shot at it may have hit the fence, but it's incredible that he was not injured. >> sean : congressman douglas, i want to talk about these two capital police people, because i remember 9/11, the rest of the world that works at the trade center, they are going down and here's a group of guy, firemen, paramedics, policemen, first responders, they are going up.
9:09 pm
there helping everyone get down. here they are going out in a wide open field with a pistol against a guy with a rifle. i've been a marksman my whole life. it's really not a comparison. >> there's no doubt about it. 15 or 20 members of congress and staff would be dead this evening had it not been for the heroic efforts by david and krystal, who were willing to run to the attack. you don't see that every day. by doing so, we celebrate them, their lives, we also want to remember the other staffers who suffered. >> sean : he kind of took a turn for their worsted this afternoon. >> he still critical. aaf third surgery is scheduled upcoming. >> he used to be a pastor, right? >> it's okay to have righteous
9:10 pm
indignation sometimes. we took a little heat today because we called this an attack on republican congress member. >> sean : this was a radical left winger who tried to assassinate republican congressman. >> if you look at his page, he says republicans are the tele- band. is there any question this was a specific attack? >> sean : i want to get into that question, because i don't care if they are radicalau islamic, or who they happen to be so soon after they commit these evil acts or atrocities, we find out they telegraphic the world. congress meant johnson, you were kind enough to take me to the field earlier. i am shocked at the proximity of the shooter. we are not allowed to go back obviously, you can see the police tape behind us.
9:11 pm
but the proximity of where the shooter was by the third-base dugout, right behind it, and then moved his way back to the field when he was going after people who had a better angle towards the first base dugout, the proximity was amazingly close, especially with the type of rifle we are talking about. >> you and i talked about it a little bit, thank god. it had to have been an act of god to throw his marksmanship off, because the members were sitting ducks out there. many of them weres stationary when the shooting started. but he saw many of those members jump into that first base dugout, and that is why he started working his way around behind the fence, trying to get -- >> sean : including the son of one of the congressman. a 10-year-old. >> we can't say enough about the heroic actions of the two capitol hill police, because had they not done what they did, if he had gotten around the cornerr and got a bead on that first
9:12 pm
base dugout, we would be setting up for a lot of funerals today. >> sean : congressman mark, you are not from louisiana, but you are wearing that shirt in honor ofof your colleague. >> i want to shout out and let steve and jennifer know that we are praying for them. people don't realize that this is my friend, a very good friend and mentor to all of us. there are two wonderful children, hunter and -- help me out guys, madison. an american congressman was shot today. >> an attempted assassination today, and by the way, theresi were as many out there today. i want to talk about the heroism of the capital police. the rhetoric that has been going on. we have isis poses of the
9:13 pm
president's head held bloodied, killing off a presidential look alike. i could literally spend an hour about all of the rhetoric that is being raised by the left. we will stay with the republican break. also tonight, the left-wing attacks against the g.o.p. and the president have now stooped to new lows. we have a monologue coming up in our next segment, and later, it is the revenge of the deep state. a new leak that is aimed to take down president trump. we will explain why, james comey, and loretta lynch should be prosecuted. in alexandria, virginia, earlier today, a left winger on g.o.p. lawmakers. >> my oldest son, he crawled under a car outside of the
9:14 pm
fence, and he was under a car with the bleachers between him and the shooter. i finally saw one of the security officers rush the shooter with his pistol drawn, and said pistol down, or drop the pistol. last year, he said he was going to dig a hole to china. at&t is working with farmers to improve irrigation techniques. remote moisture sensors use a reliable network to tell them when and where to water. so that farmers like ray can compete in big ways. china. oh ... he got there. that's the power of and.
9:15 pm
9:16 pm
9:17 pm
9:18 pm
>> sean: this is a fox news alert. a left-wing gunman, targeting and attacking a republican lawmaker >> sean: this is a fox news alert. a left-wing gunman, targeting and attacking a republican lawmaker earlier today during baseball practice. an attack that looked like an assassination attempt against republicans. authorities now working around the around the clock, investigating the background of this monster responsible for today's horrific shooting.ttnst tonight, we're going toto explan what we know about the shooter and what may have drove him to carry out these heinous acts. that is the subject of tonight's report. so the man responsible for today's shooting spree, james hodgkinson, he died earlier today after capitol hill police emofficers wounded him. he targeted republican members while they were actually practicingba for an annual congressional baseball game, and according to reports, hodgkinson is an illinois resident and a
9:19 pm
staunch left-wing liberal leftist and a hatred for all republican, conservative, and especially president trump. by the way, reportedly belonged to ad group called terminate the republican party, a facebook group. during the 2016 campaign, he allegedly volunteered for presidential candidate bernie sanders. earlier today, this is what sanders had to say about this evil man. take a look. >> i have just been informed that the alleged shooter of the republican baseball practice this morning is someone who apparently volunteered on my presidential campaign. i am sickened by this despicable act, and let me be as clear as i can be. violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society, and i condemn this action in the strongest possible terms.
9:20 pm
>> sean: now, senator sanders is not responsible, and he did do the right thing denouncing this gunman. we are not naive. we know this man does not represent all bernie sanders supporters, and by the way, on this show, we are not going to stoop as low as former president bill clinton, back in the 1990 s , blamed talk radio. we won't do that here. tonight, the biggest issue we need to address is what is a record level of vicious left-wing hate that is being spewed day after day, hour after hour, by a left-wing news media that wants to destroy the president. liberals all across the country. for example, just this week, opening night performance, shakespeare in the park, julius caesar, new york city, a donald trump look alike being brutally stabbed and murdered. by the way, tax dollars funded that. my next example is beyond graphic.
9:21 pm
before we put it up on the screen, give yourself a little time. remember comedian, kathy t griffin, put this fake bloodied severed head of president tromp as part of what looked like a disgusting isis style photo shoot. you might also recall, this vile rant from madonna back in january. take a look. >> and to our detractors that insist that this march will never add up to anything, [bleep] you. yes, i'm angry. yes, i am outraged. yes, i have thought an awful lot about blowing up the white house. a >> sean: and before madonna's infamous rant, about i've thought an awful lot about
9:22 pm
blowing up the white house. remember this music video frombo the rapper snoop dogg, where he pretends to shoot president trump with a fake gun. take a look. i could spend hours on this program giving example after example of this, these left-wing celebrities, these trump detractors glorifying violence against the president of the united states, and virtually no one on the left has denounced this vile behavior, especially clinton groups that attack conservatives for everything they could say. what can we expect, by the way a party that has every
9:23 pm
election season that republicans want to dirty air and dirty water, and paul ryan look-alikes throwing granny over the cliff. and republicans are racist, and homophobic, and sexist, and as republicans continue to demonize. the climate around the country becomes more than toxic. we continue with our congressman. i wanted you to talk about your perspective today. >> i know you heard from my colleagues. we were all in different places in the field.w and everyone stepped up in their own right to react exactly as you would expect people to do when the stuff hits the fan. so, we are here by god's grace.
9:24 pm
>> sean: let me ask all of you, you've seen the isis pose, you've seen the shakespeare play, you heard the rhetoric, things if i say should be boycotted and thrown off the air 3in 30 seconds. is this worse than you've ever seen or heard it? >> absolutely >> we are in a very tough spot in our nation. the social fabric is fraying on the edges. we have to do whatever we can to bring people back together, because what is really at stake here is the future of the country. >> sean, we have actually been hereor before. we went through something very similar to this in the 1960 s when the american people saw the vietnam war televised into their living rooms. >> sean: mlk, penn state. >> now the american people are seeing inside the american political and governing machine from a perspective they've never seen before, and many of them don't like watching the sausage
9:25 pm
beingom made. >> sean: do you make the connection between rhetoric? i can't blame bernie sanders. he's a nice guy, he's liberal and socialist, but seriously, his supporters aren't like that. it's one guy. if it was a conservative, they had a hannity, limbaugh book that inspired them to do something insane. >> i do believe he is a nice gentleman, i don't care the way he attacked. i do have to commend speaker ryan for his display of leadership and unity today,, however we s can still act like statemen and hold fast to our principles. we don't have to compromise our values. >> sean: am i naive? i don't think that can happen. >> the town halls that members
9:26 pm
of congress have had all over how they've and been treated, the yelling and domination. i've never seen anything -- i've been in politics since 1972, and i've never seen anything like this. >> i'm not a politician, i'm a physician, but the anger i'm feeling throughout the country has got to stop. weve have to find a way we can make progress and get the center moving in the right direction. somehow, we have to take the situation and find the good in it. there has to be some good in it. god's promise that if we trust at somethingill find good and get this country back in the right direction. >> sean: we will leave on that goodil note. in our thoughts and prayers, congressman scalise. thank you for sharing the story with america tonight.s, coming up tonight, it is the revenge of the deepp state. you won't believe the new leaks that are aimed to specifically within our government to take down the president. it's a clear and present danger.
9:27 pm
but first, more on why we are broadcasting tonight. we are live in alexandria, virginia. earlier today, a left-wing assassination attempt on republican lawmakers. geraldo rivera is here with us on the scene. he will be with us next.
9:28 pm
9:29 pm
dale. dale! oh, hey, rob. what's with the minivan? it's not mine. i don't -- dale, honey, is your tummy still hurting, or are you feeling better to ride in the front seat? oh! is this one of your motorcycling friends? hey, chin up there, dale. lots of bikers also drive cars. in fact, you can save big if you bundle them both with progressive. i'd like that. great. whoo. you've got soft hands. he uses my moisturizer. see you, dale. bye, rob.

just turn on cars.coms on tprice dropswant? and get real-time notifications that could help save you money. use cars.com and save.

>> we can all agree that we are blessed to be americans, that our children deserve to a grow p in a nation of safety and peace, and that we are strongest when we are unified, and when we work together for the common good. please take a moment today to cherish those you love, and always remember those who serve and keep us safe. >> sean: president trump earlier today addressing the nation following today's left-wing assassination attempt on republican lawmakers. joining us now you're on the
9:32 pm
scene is fox news' l correspondt geraldo rivera. throughout the course of yoursp incredible career, you have covered sad stories like this. >> this was either republican or democrat. five people, but it could have been so much scarier. this was attempted mass murder. that is the president we need right now tos guide this count. that's the tone, that's the message. that is the man we need to bring this grotesquely divided country together. >> sean: you got isis poses, you have shakespeare plays >> let me back to your first question. could you imagine if those two cops were not here?
9:33 pm
if you look at the field, you would've had another pulse w nightclub. he he would've had this shooter, armed with the military style assault weapon, plus the pistol, unlimited rounds. he would've gone congressperson to congressperson, killed this one, walked over and killed this one. he would've had blood all over that field. sean it was a miracle that those two cops, a man and a woman, stood their ground and ultimately took him out. even after giving him a chance to surrender ten times after them up. in terms of the hatred that is out there, we have gone from partisan rancor to an unbelievable profound wicked hatred of the other party. it is absolutely indefensible the miracle is that you don't see more of this. that's the bottom line. >> sean: i have to go back to these two police officers. i've been a marksman since i was
9:34 pm
11. i can shoot a rifle, but my expertise is in his pistol shooting. do you realize pistol shooting in open field against a rifle -- you're basically saying kill me. they opened themselves up to death, and they won and protected 20 other lives. >> and both of them wounded. bothot of them got up. i think it is just magnificent. when you honor cops, you have to honor these people. i want to go back to what you brought up about shakespeare in the park and the theatrical stabbing of julius caesar, a.k.a. donald trump, and kathys griffin with the isis pose. they didn't cause this, but they are the symptom of a division where this kind of festering hatred has been allowed to metastasize to a place now where
9:35 pm
anything is possible, where anything goes. i really think that the president has to calm things down. i understand -- >> sean: did he do it? >> he was terrific. our thoughts and prayers out to the wounded congressman and all the families. when you get hit in the hip by a military style assault weapon. because you say you got hit in the hip you tend to minimize what happened. >> sean: when we come back, it is a very important story tonight, the revenge of the deep state. there are brand-new leaks, by the way "the washington post" has been wrong so often, to take on the president.
9:36 pm
reactions as we continue from alexandria, virginia, tonight. im alexandria, dear predictable, there's no other way to say this. it's over. i've found a permanent escape from monotony. together, we are perfectly balanced. our senses awake. our hearts racing as one. i know this is sudden, but they say...if you love something set it free. see you around, giulia
9:37 pm
9:38 pm
9:39 pm
>> sean: a fox news alert, we are live on the scene in alexandria, virginia, tonight where an anti-trumpet leftist gunmen targeting republican congressmen at a practice charity baseball game for assassination. the house majority whip, the third in charge of the house,
9:40 pm
wasir shot and is in critical condition tonight. we are following that story very closely, and we will have updates as we get them tonight. also, anonymous sources telling "the washington post" that the special counsel, robert mueller is investigating president trump for possible obstruction of justice.sp this is the biggest act of retribution we have ever seen from the deep state and a history of this country. just as we have been saying on this program, it is now turned into a political witch hunt against the president of the united states. were going to explain more next in our mini monologue. all right, so "the washington post" siding once again anonymous sources, as if they haven't been wrong enoughy, recently, reporting tonight that the special counsel, robert mueller is actually looking into possible obstruction of justice by the president. you've got to keep in mind the same newspaper, "the washington post" that has been wrong time and time again, just in the last six weeks when it comes to breaking so-called new stories about the president.
9:41 pm
for example, the post was dead wrong when they reported the deputy attorney general, rob rosenstein, threatened to quit because it james comey's firing. he said the exact opposite on camera and a tv station in washington, d.c. then, "the washington post" flat out wrong, the acting fbi director claiming that never happened. of course "the washington post" not the only members of this destroyed trump media that we've been talking about getting it wrong over and over again. abc, cnn, "the new york times," they have all done the exact same thing. so, tonight, and over the next few days, when the media predictably is going to breathlessly and hyperventilate all kinds of reports and brand-new black helicopters ande tinfoil hat conspiracy theories to the american people as they lie again, remember they have zero credibility left.
9:42 pm
it is only a matter of time before this too will be debunked. here is the only massive issue being ignored in all of this. we have actual crimes, actual collusion, that needs to be fully completed investigated, and prosecuted. and they have nothing to do with president trump or his i administration. james comey testified loretta lynch tried to influence the fbi's hillary clinton email investigation. that is called obstruction of justice. comey also may have broken the law. we talked about these laws. if you thought it was obstruction, he had a moral and legal obligation to tell someone about it immediately. robert mueller, he has more conflicts of interest. we can, show. which also are violations of federal law. comey and mueller have been friends for a long time.
9:43 pm
comey admitted he leaked a memo to "the new york times" hoping it would get a special counselor. now, fox news previously reported, comey's testimony last week was called "closely coordinated with the special counsel." these are massive conflicts of interest that cannot be ignored. according to my colleague, gregg jarrett, comey and mueller's relationship. may violate two laws. it gets worse. mueller's investigative team. and he hired three people who donated to democrats, clinton and obama, and the very same lawyer that represented hillary clinton. speaking by the way of the clintons, we know hillary clinton committed a felony with her email scandals. if the democrats wantt to talk about collusion, let's takea a look at the collusion with vladimir putin, uranium one, 20% of the material to make nuclear
9:44 pm
weapons. as secretary of state, she signed off on a waiver giving 20% of that uranium to putin, all while people involved in that deal were funneling millions of dollars back to the clinton foundation. there you go, russian conspiracy. and her husband double speaking fees in moscow. by the way, what we are seeing now. this is so deep, it's a deep state.at they want retribution. this is now about an unelected part of your government, looking to overturn the results of a duly u elected president. by the way, whoever leaked this information to "the washington post," unnamed sources, five ofd them, they need to be arrested, prosecuted, and put in jail. it is time, once and for all. we have got to get a grip on obama, deep state holdovers, every one of the need to go where this will never end. and those people that are leaking top-secret information, special access information, classified information. and comey, clinton, and lynch,
9:45 pm
all to be prosecuted. mueller and rod rosenstein recused themselves. i don't get to see you guys often, good to see you. let me start with you. anything i got wrong? >>ee no. this is true, which again as you said, "the washington post" not a credible source anymore. if this is true, that five individuals inside the united statespo government, whether it was the fbi or special counsel, wherever it came from, leaked information about the president of the united states to "the washington post," informationat about i suppose it investigation, that is a crime. we can say it's outrageous, we can say to responsible. the leak of this information is a crime. i don't care if you're
9:46 pm
republican, democrat, it doesn't matter. why in the world would we allow in the united states of america for information like this to be released. after all, it was rod rosenstein's document, his letter -- >> sean: no one has read this fully. i read it four times. >> he's the one who said that james comey was wrong to usurp the authority under loretta lynch. we do not hold press conferences to release derogatory information. no, they're just leaking internal information if it happens to "the washington post." >> sean: he needs to go. right or wrong? >> look -- >> sean: i'll say it, he needs to go. >> his basis wasn't about russia. this also shows without question, this russian investigation is gone nowhere,
9:47 pm
so they'll bear coming up with new charges. >> sean: where is the special counsel prosecutor for the people that met on the tarmac, one woman by the name of loretta lynch. who had already decided to collude with clinton and put the kibosh? >> there's enough evidence out there for a special counsel to investigate that. what we know our facts. comey himself admitted it, that she asked him to call it a matter, not an investigation. then he presents her -- >> sean: and he did it. >> and he did it. that was his excuse. he felt the propriety of loretta lynch needing bill clinton on that tarmac was excuse enough for him to make a decision which really wasn't his to make. >> sean: greg, we love you back in new york, obviously with the breaking news, when we get back. as we continue. alexandria, virginia, the site
9:48 pm
of an attempted assassination of republicans today, and of course praying for the victims. victim.

9:52 pm
were in alexandria, virginia, . greg, i'm so sorry. you sent me a note today that i thought hit so many good points. i will let you explain. >> if this "washington post" story is true, then it is abundantly clear that mueller must resign. the special counsel statute says, if you have a personal relationship with someone substantially involved in the case you shall not serve as special counsel. w it's mandatory language. he must recuse. it is unconscionable that this is a man who is close friends with the star witness, and will now decide whether the president violated the law based on his dealings with his longtime close personal friend, ally, it's not just a violation of the statute,
9:53 pm
but the canon of -- i'm absolutely with you.ut i have no idea what was going through his brain when he chose robert mueller. everyone knew that james comey would be the key pivotal witness. you cannot have the prosecutor that close to the principal witness. >> sean: i think we are the only people that seem to be talking about their real issues here. >> that's the question. why is the fbi not tonight finding out who these five leakers are russian mark why are they not sending agents to people's houses? >> sean: what about loretta lynch's investigation russian mark wise and hillary clinton in jail?? >> this is ongoing right now for the sitting president. how in the world are we allowing the federal bureau of
9:54 pm
investigation to leak this information to "the washington post."at this is not the way the justice system is supposed to go. >> sean: this is the 50th leak though!th >> this is a different level. the call for the special counsel -- where did this come from? il hope that he is investigatig that tonight. >> sean: where is james comey's investigation. loretta lynch's investigation? how does hillary get to commit felony? >> he ended the obstruction case against the president of the united states peered his own testimony ended that. >> and there is a point there. when you look at it, obstruction, they talk to all the intelligence chief. they've asked everyone over and over in congress again. in testimony, did president trump try to obstruct this investigation. they all said no.
9:55 pm
my question is, if they are now lying and backtracking, and nowi people are leaking, i just find it hard to believe that they would lie before congress. >> everything is ass backwards here. they are investigating the wrong people. country has been lied to on a profound level. this is the fundamental issue of a constitutional republic. that's what this is. we have ae constitution. if we can keep it, and that's the key. >> sean: dual standard of justice by james comey. and comey should be investigated. loretta lynch should be investigated. these other two should recuse themselves and get out of the way.tt when we come back, we are goingg wrap things up. very tough day here. alexandria, virginia. on the road. thanks for being with us.
