a major fear for pet owners everywhere. but how far would you go to find your missing pet? well one bay area cat owner hired a pet detective to find her beloved feline... and the search took her all the way to omaha. "i don't really like cats. i've never been super into cats," riley mcdermid said. by no means doesmcdermidonsider herself a cat lover, except when it comes to sheba. " she catches lots of mice, and she's just a laid back, wonderful cat," mcdermid said. so when sheba went missing last ptember, mcdermid was determined to find her. she suspected sheba was taken by family members of her deceased neighbor while they were hauling his belongings back to the midwest. "she's such a friendly cat, did she jump into the back of the truck? or maybe they took her because she's such a nice cat," mcdermid said. mcdermid tracked them to omaha, nebraska, 1,600 miles away. she contacted them on social media and by text messages. she offered them a ward, but there was no response.
6:10 am
there was only one thing left to do. call in a pet detective. private investigator mona kay said, "i was eager to do it right away." kay went to the suspected person's home in omaha. the woman, who refused to speak with us, claimed sheba was her father's cat. then turned it over after seeing proof it was not. "she was completely shocked when i pulled that picture out of sheba," kay said. after an 18-day ordeal, sheba was flown back to vallejo. jessica and sct are chatting about the pet detective. jessica and scott are chatting about the pet detective. scott: good morning siouxland. rain is moving through the area as bands of showers are being reeled northward by an area of low pressure spinning in west-central

"the last thing we want to do after a long day is spend a lot of time making dinner. that's why stir frying is such a great idea. it's great because all we have to do is toss everything in one pan, add a few seasonings and dinner is done. and the key to a good stir fry is to make sure the pan is really hot. that way everything sears and cooks quickly rather than slowly eaming. here i'm

will be the target of a financial scam. if you're caring for an aging loved one... that's a scary thought. so, how do you protect them? abc9 news reporter bria bell tells us about a new effort underway in iowa. anyone can fall victim to a well crafted scam, but in places like sioux city where the elder population is higher...makes them more susceptible. the siouxland center for active generations is trying to combat these crimes by offering informational workshops. "education and vigilance. we have...every wednesday we have a talk show where we brin speakers to inform our members and the general public," said santi. the efforts that this center provides is what santi calls a team effort, because not every scam that occurs goes noticed. "more fraud happens in the community than what we're aware of, than what the police are aware of, than what the siouxland center for active generations or connections area, or agencies on aging or any of the social network groups are

aware. if it happens, one times is too many," said santi. types of scams that con artists partake in are phone calls pretending to be relatives, fake mail flyers requesting donations for charities, health care or contracting schemes. senior citizens can protect their wallets by making sure that their purchases are valid...verifying any money sent to donations, keeping a strong social network by communicating with family and friends...as well as not letting a person or organization force you into making a financial decision. on the state level... sioux city representative chris hall says protecting seniors is something they're actively g tabs on, using their feedback about what's important. "we do it in incremental steps. it's something that we've considered with strong input from older iowans, and in particular the older iowans legislature," said hall. and the iowa attorney general's is also working to protect the elderly by incorporating

"we need to work to help adults find newskills or complete new degrees that give them the skills. we need to encourage our young people to understand the career opportunities that are available right here in siouxland.

training our own probably won be enough we need to recruit workers form other areas where job opportunities are not as good," said south dakota governor dennis daugaard. jessica rae: financial incentives, are one of the most common tools used to help attract new business. whether from tax rebates, forgivable loans or tax credits, all three states offer millions in aid. but the governors agree it takes more than that to keep new business happy. "when you look at incentives you need to make sure that whatever icentives you provide are less than the benifits the community and state get from attracting those good paying jobs, so we try and focus on really good paying jobs" said iowa governor terry branstad. "what you have to do is make sure you have a low tax environoment, that you have common sense regulation and most importantly that you have a work force. all those things are how you attract and retain a company," said nebraska governor pete ricketts. jessica rae: governor branstad is scheduled to
