"" jessica rae: good morning and happy new year... i'm jessica rae. we begin this morning with the massive flooding in the midwest... which is creeping beyond historic levels. water is spilling over the banks of the mississippi, moving down stream... and putting more cities on high alert. the flooding has swallowed entire homes... leaving only roofs above water. reporter jennifer grey has the latest. " (connie fan/resident) "this is unbelievable. this is like, totally, totally, totally crazy. i have never, in my life, seen anything like this before." for missouri residents it's going to be anything but a joyful new year national weather service says record flooding will serve as the new bench mark for the meramec river basin, and parts of the mississippi river aren't expected to crest until later tonight ( mayor michael polizzi, fenton, missouri) "we've taken on more water

when the pilot had to make an emergency landing in chattanooga, tennessee. reporter forrest saunders has more. " " tired travelers on the tarmac. that's what you see in these viewer photos after allegiant air 760 was rced to land ababt an hour and a half into the flight. passengers report they had to leave the plane with all their belongings and wait it out, stuck in chattanooga, tennessee. for some, it's been frustrating. "very. we've been gone for a weem and i kept thinking, 'we're almost home, we're almost home'." passengers tami foubert (foe-bert) and her daughter mya were headed home to the montezuma area after a dance event in florida. while facetiming us from the chattanooga airport, tami said she knew something was up a little over a half hour into the flight. "we heard a crazy sound underneath us. it kind of sounded like when your tires come out for landing. we weren't anywhere near where we would be landing." that sound might have had something to do with the engine. allegiant reports the md-83 twin jet experienced trouble with its right engnge and landed safely. thth150 passengers are now playing the waiting game until they can get to their final destination. "they're looking at bringing another plane in, a rescue plane in for us. they've just announced our plane will not fly again. we're looking at maybe three to four hours here." as of 10 this morning,
