, on your screen or log on to kcci.com, facebook. or twitter to weigh in. steve: happening right now florida senator marco rubio is , hosting a pre-debate rally at wellman's pub and rooftop in west des moines. it's the republican presidential candidate's only stop in iowa today ahead of tomorrow's debate. texas senator ted cruz is also in the metro tonight. he will hold a pro-life campaign rally with former texas governor rick perry at noah's event venue in clive. that starts at 6:00 p.m. former florida governor jeb bush also making some campaign stops in iowa today. this afternoon, he spoke to hundreds of employees at nationwide insurance in downtown des moines. so far, during this campaign season the workers have heard , from john kasich, carly fiorina, and ben carson. bush told them he is the only candidate who has laid out a plan for entitlement reform, which he is concerned about due to our aging population. >> we have to have the

protect social security for those who haven't but change it so exists for the next generation. all of these things are the cost drivers that will make it harder for us to get to a balanced budget. steve: bush also told the group that his number one priority is national security, and he had a plan to rebuild our military and defeat isis, even before the attacks in paris and san bernardino. stacey: new poll numbers for the democratic presidential candidates. quinnipiac university says bernie sanders leads in iowa but just barely. he has 49% support. hillary clinton has 45%. that's within the margin of error. martin o'malley has 4%. sanders jokes he didn't ask for an endorsement but he wasn't likely to get one during today's meeting with president obama at the white house. sanders says the president has been very fair with the democratic candidates by not throwing his full support behind any one of them. obama hasn't overtly chosen sides in the democratic primary battle.

meeting about the hawkeye state. sen. sanders: i think what the iowa campaign ends up being about is one word, and that is turnout. stacey: the white house says the president believes sanders' bid is good for democrats because he can engage, excite, and inspire them. sanders is back in iowa tonight for a campaign event in mason city. it's will be at the music man square and starts in about an hour. steve: bernie sanders's main opponent hillary clinton, held a , get out and caucus rally this morning in adel. kcci chief political reporter cynthia fodor was there. cynthia: it was not the usual scene with a candidate in a coffee shop on main street. this time, hillary clinton stood in the middle of a bowling ally. clinton packed in a crowd at the adel family fun center, where she stood in front of the lanes to make a point of how she supports small businesses like this one. the former secretary of state focused on economic issues. she sounded much like bernie sanders, hitting on income

clinton said she agrees with warren buffet, who just endorsed her, that the rich need to pay more taxes. ms. clinton: if you make a million dollars, you should have to pay a 30% effective tax rate. the days it have to be over that someone making $1 million or more is paying a lower tax rate than a secretary, nurse, firefighter, teacher. i am going to implement the buffet rule. cynthia: clinton also talked about student debt, health care and how iowa is leading the way , in clean energy. she apparently pressed the democratic national committee to add a presidential debate before next month's new hampshire primary, seeking another high-profile exchange with rival bernie sanders. steve: bill clinton is back in iowa campaigning for his wife. the former president will be in mason city tonight at 6:30. he has appearances tomorrow in waverly, mount vernon,

new york city mayor bill de blasio is also set to campaign for hillary clinton here in iowa. the mayor and his wife will spend 4 days in our state. they will return to new york the day after iowa's first-in-the-nation caucuses. de blasio was clinton's campaign manager during her successful 2000 u.s. senate bid. other candidates in the state today include martin o'malley, who's at grinnell college right now. he'll be in ames at 7:45. carly fiorina will be at the heritage gallery in des moines at 5:30 and rube's steakhouse in waukee at 7:30. mike huckabee will be at saints avenue cafe in boone at 5:30. rick santorum will be at a house party in ames at 7:00. john kasich and chris christie are both in eastern iowa. stacey: the sun returned and everybody who got to see it really enjoyed it. kurtis: it helped warm us up. we had some clouds moving in but we topped out at 40 degrees. hope you had a chance to enjoy a

charged with disorderly conduct. officers say they saw him throwing tomatoes toward trump during a speech. the crowd began booing and trump addressed the incident. [booing] mr. trump: do you want to let the football team take care of it? stacey: secret service and university of iowa police officers arrested alemao. he was booked into the johnson county jail. steve: former iowa hawkeye football player tyler sash had cte, a degenerative brain disease. cte has been linked to concussions in football. sash's family says he had several concussions over his football career first in high , school in oskaloosa, also at the university of iowa, and later in the nfl. sash's mother says it offers an explanation for his irregular behavior before his death last september. the polk county medical examiner is calling the death of des moines architect kirk blunck suspicious.

sign of assault. the report is in today's des moines register. the 62-year-old blunck was found at the bottom of a stairwell on sunday in an east village office building. stacey: the head of a gay rights organization in iowa says a legislature oversight committee is unfairly targeting his group. it's over programming at an annual anti-bullying youth conference. the executive director of iowa safe schools says members of the house government oversight committee discussed his group's work today at the statehouse. representative bobby kaufmann defends the investigation saying some event programming was inappropriate. nexstar says it's buying rival television station operator media general after meredith bows out. media general offered to buy media company meredith in september. two months later, nexstar offered to buy media general. today, meredith says it agreed to allow media general out of the deal. as a result, media general will have to pay $60 million cash to

steve: a medical service you would normally get outside of school is now provided inside scavo high school in des moines. kcci's emmy victor give us a -- gave us a look at the school's new full-service dentist's office. >> somebody is like, where you go to the dentist? i go to my school for the dentist vanessa and he's not joking. : this new dental clinic inside scavo high school is the first of its kind in iowa. and damien is one of the first students to it try out. >> it's been a year and a half since i have been to an actual dentist, because mine is all the way in iowa city. vanessa but this one is right : down the hallway providing , cleaning, filling and teeth removal services that you could receive at a typical dentist office. all, in part, to eliminate barriers to care. the clinic has the capacity of serving fifteen students a day. you just have to be a student at des moines public schools.

vanessa the student interest is : sky rocketing. they've had twenty appointments since they opened and have already noticed a difference in class attendance. >> year in and year out dental problems are one of the top reasons that kids are out of school. vanessa and for the students who : may not enjoy loud drilling in their mouth, friendly dentists are there to make the day a-ok. >> just because they are sharp things does not mean they hurt you. steve: the dental clinic is open on wednesdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. the school is also looking at opening a vision clinic this fall. stacey: let's check back in with kurtis. kurtis: we do have a week system that is moving through. that will shift the winds around and kind of bring a one-day cool down.

snow will continue from green bay, detroit, through chicago. that alone will continue to spend to the northeast, kind of keep that northwesterly flow in place. there is warmer air to the west. it will take until friday to get here. 6:00 already those clouds moving out. tomorrow, the cloud still in fairly quickly in the afternoon our. friday, we will see some sunshine across the state. saturday, clouds slowly return, especially clouds in the northern half of the state. i think generally cloudy skies on sunday with a chance for some late day rain. tonight, temperature down to 29 degrees. tomorrow, the high temperature around 35 degrees.

stacey: this is the video that everyone was talking about during the massive blizzard that hit the east coast. steve: the panda bear is a big celebrity at the national zoo in washington, d.c. edward lawrence has the story. reporter: people lined up for the national zoo to reopen to see tian tian, the star of a video that went viral during the recent blizzard. 60 million people saw this footage of the panda playing in the snow on saturday. >> he is kind of a really laid-back guy, so he takes it in stride, then all of a sudden he goes rolling down the hill. reporter: to the delight of ashley shi, the giant pandas wanted to be out today. >> he -- she loves the zoo. every city we visit we go to the zoo first. reporter: zoo staffers worked around the clock to dig out from under 22 inches of snow. >> this was an enormous amount

we brought in an unusual about of people. reporter: 85 workers spent the past 4 nights at the zoo to keep -- to make sure the animals were safe. now, for the first time since the storm all of the animals , have more room to roam. and roam they did. the bison wilma and zora frolicked in their enclosures and the elephants seemed to like , the taste of the snow. >> a lot of the animals are subtropical so they prefer to be in cozy, but a lot of them couldn't wait to get out. reporter: escaping the indoors for a day of fun in the snow. edward lawrence, cbs news, washington. steve: from pandas to pigs. check this out. a pot pelly pig ran away from his owner in pell city alabama. when the cops finally caught him they put him in the back of , their police car. the pig's owner says he is grateful that he and otis have been reunited. we are counting down the days until super bowl 50. it will be broadcast right here on kcci. stacey: and for a small company
