stacey: the university of iowa says several members of its football and wrestling teams did nothing wrong when they appeared with donald trump at an iowa city rally yesterday. the players presented trump with a personalized jersey at the university fieldhouse. the university says it don't -- says it did not and does not endorse trump or any other candidate, and trump's appearance should not be seen as such. athletic director gary barta adds in a statement, "university of iowa student-athletes are encouraged to participate in the political process as individuals . we are confident that no violations of n.c.-double-a -- ncaa rules and regulations have taken place. steve: the trump rally in iowa city landed one man in jail after police say he threw tomatoes at the presidential candidate. 28-year-old andrew alemao is now charged with disorderly conduct. officers saw him throw 2 tomatoes toward trump. but he didn't hit trump or anyone else. trump's closest competitor is holding a rally of his own tonight. stacey: ted cruz at a rally in west des moines. todd magel is there.

senator marco rubio wrapped up a pre-debate rally in west des moines. rubio spoke to a group at wellman's pub and rooftop. rubio says its important for everyone to go out and caucus. sen. rubio: this caucus on monday night is not just a choice between political parties it's about the future of our constitution. this is the greatest country in the history of the world. i know that you belive that. i do, too. jeb bush is also back in iowa. he spoke to hundreds of employees today at nationwide insurance in downtown des moines. so far, this caucus season the workers have heard from john kasich, carly fiorina, and ben carson. bush told them his top priority as president would be national security and rebuilding the military. he said he was the first candidate to lay out a plan to defeat isis. mr. bush: we can't be occupiers, the president says. isis is not going to invade us like a nationwide. the simple fact is this for of

major general timothy orr made that statement before the iowa legislature during today's condition of the guard address. a directive from the pentagon late last year opened up many combat roles to women. general orr says there are currently only 15 guard soldiers and airmen serving overseas. and orr noted that kosovo will , open it first ever consulate in des moines friday. steve: des moines' meredith corporation now says merger plans with media general are off. media general offered to buy meredith back in september. that deal is now off because media general says it is being bought by nexstar communications. but meredith isn't leaving the deal empty handed. media general is paying meredith $60 million in cash to get out of the deal. stacey: still to come, why iowa lawmakers are looking into

sexually explicit content. steve: vanessa peng has the story, new at 6:00. vanessa: iowa legislators are investigating if an annual anti-bullying event for youth, that your tax dollars might have helped fund, went too far in sexually explicit material last year. the house government oversight committee was alerted to the possible problem by west des moines valley high school social studies teacher jamie ehlert. in a letter to legislators, ehlert says last year's governor's conference on lbgtq youth made her feel uncomfortable. in one example, ehlert says speaker sam killermann "gave the
websites about finding orgies and how to find porn on the internet." >> the intention of this is to make sure the children who are at a conference that is partially paid for by tax payers dollars do not have to be taught such things. vanessa: democrat mary wolfe says she wants to hear from both sides. >> i'm also sure we can get hunderds if not thousands of letters from people who have attended this presentation and it's saved their lives, it meant so much to them. vanessa: we spoke to killermann on the phone. >> in anything sex education and providing information on sexual health, any answer can be twisted and turned into some salacious, and that's what's happening here. what we were doing was responding to kids questions that they had about their wellness and their fears and , they are questions that they don't get to ask people typically. vanessa: iowa safe schools, a non-profit group dedicated to protecting lbgtq youth, founded the event. >> we know this event saves lives and while some want to , detract from that or distract from this whole issue we know we're doing good work and that's all that matters. vanessa: the committee says they
