10:00 pm
bit of snow next week -- tuesday, mainly. today looked wonderful, still hanging on to 42 in des moines, mid 30's off to the north. snow-melting temperatures, a good amount of melt is out there. a bit more is on the way. not going to see that tonight. a chance of rain overnight, mainly through northern portions of the state -- could see that makes. here in the southern portion, i do not expect much. we keep that into the late morning hours. that will taper off into the afternoon. highs again in the low 40's. further details on that snowstorm headed our way, coming up soon. todd: first at 10:00, new iowa poll numbers in tonight from the "des moines register." on the democratic side, hillary clinton is on top with iowa voters. she has 45% of likely voters. bernie sanders is in second, by just 3 points, at 42%.
10:01 pm
a distant third with 3%. now, donald trump is now leading on the republican side here in he has 28% of likely voters. ted cruz is in second with 23%. and marco rubio is in third with 15%. people behind the "register" poll explained their findings at a live event downtown. that analysis. rose: the "register" iowa poll is seen as the gold standard for its strong predicting power. but the pollsters tell me caucus-goers still have a lot to decide for caucus night. kathie: no one has got it locked up, at this stage. rose: on the republican side, donald trump regained the top spot. this, after falling behind 10 points behind ted cruz in december. ann: for trump to have come back to seize the lead, now that's an interesting story. so, he's doing well. ted cruz is suffering from the attacks that have been laid against him. and we'll see if he can recover in time. rose: however, the poll shows a lot of fluidity from potential republican caucus-goers. 45% say they could still be persuaded.
10:02 pm
could be good news for marco rubio. he's polling solidly in third place. ann: it suggests that there are people who are supporting other candidates. who, on caucus night, might be persuaded to join the marco rubio force. so, one of the surprises we might be looking for. rose: for democrats, it's a tight race between bernie sanders and hillary clinton, who once was the overwhelming favorite. ann: she's had to earn the position as front-runner. and that's been harder and harder, as bernie sanders has become a better and better candidate. rose: the difference will be the generation gap. sanders has support from 63% of caucus-goers younger than 35. kathie: the big key there is, will bernie sanders be able to turnout his young support and first-timers? we've got more first-time caucus-goers, more young people for him than for hillary clinton. rose: the poll-makers tell me that the poll is just a science of estimation. so much can change on caucus night. todd? todd: it certainly can change. republican front-runner donald

today, calling on supporters to get out to caucus monday night. donald: it all doesn't matter, if you don"t caucus on monday. it all doesn't matter. the polls don't matter. nothing matters. the only thing that matters is the poll they take on monday. todd: trump will be in council bluffs and sioux city tomorrow. he says he plans to stay in iowa through monday. and plans to make stops at several caucuses in iowa that night. now, one undecided iowa voter says she made up her mind today, after hearing ted cruz at a rally in ames. cruz challenged the crowd of about 400 at the gateway hotel to bring nine friends each to caucus for him monday. cruz stressed that, as president, he would end common core, destroy isis, and repeal obamacare. he also asked iowans to support him in prayer, during this final stretch before the caucus. sen. ted cruz: this responsibility that you bear on your shoulders to look at the candidates and vet us, not to listen to what we say but to look at our actions, as the

them by their fruits. todd: cruz supporters at the rally tell kcci they'll caucus for him, because he's a man of his word and the right candidate to change the direction of the country. a cruz campaign flyer is taking some iowans by surprise. some voters received this flyer in the mail, giving a grade on their past voter turnout record. now, this voter tells us it feels like a personal attack, that he and his neighbors all received an f grade. kcci spoke with a cruz campaign spokesman who tells us using "civic guilt" is an effective way to persuade voters to caucus. he says it's based off of a republican party flyer from 2014. well, before a rally in ames, cruz's competitor, marco rubio, spoke to reporters about the campaign flyers. sen. marco rubio: i had some voters mention to me they were upset about it. obviously, they had people's names, and they gave them an f rating for how they voted. i think a lot of voters are disturbed by it. and that sort of -- again, i

way to end your campaign in the state. todd: rubio also spoke about a series of half-hour specials he is running on iowa television stations this weekend. he says they're intended to give answers to voters who did not have a chance to go to any of his town hall meetings. on the democratic side, hillary clinton held a rally of her own today in ames. there, she talked about jobs, the economy, income inequality, and guns, alongside former arizona congresswoman gabby giffords. she also addressed her personal e-mail server problems, when she sat down for a one-on-one interview with our steve karlin. steve: people can't help but look at this and have questions. what's your response to that. sec. hillary clinton: well, my response is i want all of the e-mails out. i take classification very seriously. but i think voters are pretty smart. you know, with benghazi, they saw me testify for 11 hours. with this, they know that this is all retroactive. there was nothing marked classified at the time. steve: has your campaign been made better by having bernie sanders in the race? sec. clinton: well, i believe in competition.

great campaign. i'm grateful to the people of iowa. and i'm grateful to my fellow candidates, because i think we've all upped our game. and we need to, because it's the toughest job in the world that we're vying for. so, as we close, moving toward thank your viewers, and everybody else who takes part in this process. steve: do you get the impression, as you travel around the state of iowa and also in new hampshire, that people really want not just an advocate, but they really need somebody to take care of them? sec. clinton: it's really interesting that you say that. steve, i've done a lot of interviews, and you're the only person who's really put it like that. that's what i'm hearing from people. i'm hearing people say, "we've got to be able to count on our government, we've got to be able to get ahead again, we've got to be able to feel like our kids are going to have better lives because of our hard work." that's the american dream i was raised with.

granddaughter, and the grandchildren and children of everybody in this country. and i do think that people are worried that, somehow, we've lost our way. and they hear so much mean-spiritedness, all kinds of attacks and negativity. and, you know, they think the game is rigged against them. they want somebody to come in, roll up their sleeves, and get to work for them. and that's exactly what i will do. steve: in ames, steve karlin, kcci 8 news, iowa's news leader. todd: and former president bill clinton is on the campaign trail for his wife. he spoke to potential caucus-goers in iowa falls today, before meeting up with hillary clinton and their daughter, chelsea, for a rally in cedar rapids tonight. the three of them will continue to hold events together through caucus night. bernie sanders also speaking to voters here in iowa today. sen. bernie sanders: we are going to make american history on monday night. todd: at a rally in cedar rapids, the vermont senator stressed that he believes he will win monday night, if voter

sanders also criticized the tone of hillary clinton's campaign, saying she brings forth false statements about his voting record. kcci has also learned tonight the democratic candidates will square-off one more time, before the new hampshire primary. the hillary clinton and bernie sanders campaigns have reached an agreement to hold another debate, before the new hampshire primary. and three additional debates after that. the first new debate will be held thursday, february 4, sponsored by msnbc. the new hampshire primary is the following tuesday, february 9. all three democratic candidates are still in iowa tomorrow. clinton will be in des moines at 8:00 at des moines lincoln high school. and sanders will be at grand view university at 7:00. several republican candidates making stops around the state, as well. donald trump, ted cruz, marco rubio, ben carson, rand paul, jeb bush, carly fiorina, chris christie, rick santorum, and mike huckabee all have rallies
