good morning, everyone. i am alan gionet and this is the news on tuesday, september 20. >> i am alan gionet. dozens of people without a home this morning after an apartment complex catches fire. with the latest coming up on cbs4 morning news. the fbi in new york and new jersey are getting a closer look at some of the bonds used >> senator michael bennet declines an offer to debate as he runs for reelection. we have reaction to that move. live from colorado's newschannel. this is cbs4 morning news. >> first what september weather we've been having. >> summer seems to be hanging on this week. lauren is tracking a warm forecast before the cool down.

today. not quite as warm as yesterday but you will notice it'll be a lot cloutier today. we even have a little bit of rain in our southwestern corner. we are seeing some moisture from a tropical storm in the southwest. right now let's check in with joel. we have a couple trouble spot this morning with the east of santa fe out to broadway and then along 23rd from denver into loo main break closing off a portion of the roadway. some people said why don't you talk about my construction project? this is why. it is summer time, and that means there is comes out almost anywhere. >> right now people are still out of their homes after a massive fire.

yellow. >> reporter: there were seven people transported to the hospital. we are up close right where the fire started on the southwest corner. deputies this morning are keeping an eye on the scene as investigators were to figure out a cause. flames broke out yesterday afternoon around 4:00. we had this captured image. he burning building to see if there's anything they could do to help. >> when i was running toward the fire, it's just did not blow up but the whole thing got out of hand. >> reporter: medics took seven people to the hospital putting one county firefighter.

the condition of the two others. we are told all seven were treated for smoke inhalation and are expected to be okay. there are dozens without homes this morning. red cross was not able to get a full count, but we know it is helping in this case. we are looking to learn more about because of this fire. investigators are really nothing out at this point. jamie leary, cbs4 news. trying to figure out what motivated a naturalized u.s. citizen from afghanistan to carry out a series of weekend bombings in new york and new jersey. ahmad khan rahami was taken into custody monday after a shootout in linden, new jersey. he is charged with five counts of attempted murder and two gun charges. federal officials are still looking into the possibility of terrorism charges.

here is a highly debated question. should the u.s. government remove wild horses from public land? we already told you about a round of last year. a federal judge in denver heard arguments yesterday. the first involves whether the bureau of land management uses a request to remove wild horses that come on the property. >> we are in court today to defend the wi wyoming from an assault on their freedom. >> there is public land to the south and north. most of it is not fenced. the horses will just keep coming on to private land and moving back to public land. it is a very difficult program to manage. >> wyoming is suzy -- suing demanding they remove hundreds of federal horses within the

rain the eastern part of california as well. we will see that the red the day today. it should be on the dry side for us with the chance for rain today. we will be on the cloudy side with a couple pockets of sunshine. overnight tonight we have a chance for rain in parts of the southwest. potentially tomorrow morning in denver. we have a chance of rain later on in the day as well and we will continue to see that moisture through tomorrow including parts of colorado. it is still warm outside even though we have the cloud cover with 92 in burlington and 98 in lamar. 76 in angel and 76 in grand junction.

making its way toward the great basin later this week. we will see some cooler temperatures toward the weekend. for the next couple of days, 80 on friday with a chance for isolated storms in the 60s on friday. here is a look at i-25 and santa fe this morning. we have a couple trouble spots with one of them southbound along i-25. we have got a truck that is built asphalt and previously we were seeing yellow and orange. we will continue to watch that for you. here we are across the denver metro area at 23rd and quitman closing off that intersection. we also help work going on in

the federal reserve begins a two day policy meeting today and it is widely expected the central bank will not make any changes to its policy. >> there are a lot of things involved. one of the key drivers is how

we have jill schlesinger here to talk about it. good morning. last december when the fed raised rates for the first time in nine years, it was expected to have four rate hikes this year. what happened to that? >> reporter: economic growth slowed down to a crawl with one person gdp. the stock market also tumbled and stayed on the sidelines fearing if they raise interest rates too quickly it could derail the recovery. that is wife regulators think they will skip this meeting and probably the next one also. remember, if the central bank waits too long it could foster asset bubbles. we have one may be forming in the stock market or the commercial real estate market

why the feds will probably focus on the december meeting as the next potential time for a rate hike. >> dependent on the fed's action, how would this effect us? >> reporter: you know, the fed probably has the most significant impact on our financial lives than anybody or anyone else. beyond the overall economy, these ultra low interest rates have been fantastic for farmers and also investors. it has been awful for savers. i know that many of you are frustrated by your low rates on your money market accounts. if so, you may want to check out to find some good options with internet-based institutions. i keep hearing from people who

interest rates that i am putting money in the stock market. please be careful. risk it exists when interest rates are low and high and i am nervous people are piling into stock and they may be forgetting how bad it feels when the market moves against them. >> a very good point. we talk about the president and congress but it is the fed in a great deal of this. thank you very much. let's take a look at what is happening across the country. the chance for strong city in southern minnesota into iowa and it is hot with 96 in dallas today and 93 in new orleans. the east coast have some rain today and temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. it is muggy out that direction looking at the rain in the desert southwest.

bringing a lot of rain into arizona and the seven parts of california and the north baja region looking at the potential for flooding. 60s and 70s and fairly mellow. it has been a smooth morning commute through town. i think you will like that drive to the airport on i-25, which is nice and open. running nepo eastbound along i-70 out to i- 225 the a line is running on time. another warm day is on the way and coming up next on cbs4 what the part of transportation wants to do before more driverless cars hit the road and by this seems a little scary to some drivers.
