figure skating coach told us today they are dedicating their entire 2016/17 season to annie. we have the full statement online at cbsdenver.com. a motorcyclist in critical condition after a crash shut down the interstate this morning causing major backups. the motorcyclist lost control, fell off his a car. investigators believe that cyclist was speeding. an update on a string of threats involving clowns and schools in colorado and all over the country. the threats have popped up on social media lately saying clowns will commit violence at school. we've seen them at districts in colorado from the denver area to greeley and out to the west slope. rick salinger live in jefferson county. how serious should we take these threats? >> reporter: these clown

like a bad computer virus, there's one from mesa county, adams county, jefferson county here in colorado. >> reporter: lakewood police converged on cretan middle school after the killer clown threat spread here. >> as soon as we get any kind of threat, we medical try and find out who the threat is about, bring in law enforcement so they can do some research. >> reporter: rerts ever out to -- letters have gone out to all telling them "our investigation led us to believe this may be a social media hysteria." the threats have been making the rounds at many schools. >> i believe it's just stupid. some kid just going around trying to scare kids. >> it's just a bunch of empty threats. >> reporter: in adams county, parents received a letter. there

>> they range from people who say they saw clowns on a school property to people who said they've heard that clowns are gonna come shoot up the saw. >> reporter: given the violence that has occurred in schools, each threat is being taken as if it is real. >> reporter: this has spread across the country. clowns are usually meant for fun. but this is no laughing matter. a lakewood man is shot when he tried to stop a thief from stealing his neighbor's car. this was in the 1,600 block of south cody street. the gunman shot the man who confronted. the man's injuries were minor. police are looking for a silver or gray shev neconnection to that shooting. denver police are showing

to that shooting. denver police are showing us a new tool. >> reporter: the denver police department is in the process of revamping its entire training program, and this 360 degree simulator is part of it. critical thinking in a scenario where you have to make a slit-second decision. i had the opportunity to test it out for miles, and it's as real can get. >> sir , put your weapon down. >> we're not gonna shoot you, you have to put your weapon do >> reporter: there's a person controlling the simulation deciding what happens next based on how you handle the situation. in my case what you didn't see is that i was shot by the suspect because i didn't realize the situation was escalating. it was extremely unnerving, and the scene real and graphic, so we opted not to show some of them. the simulation has about 100 different scenarios. officers have the opportunity to use a

scenarios and less lethal options. >> eventual ly we'll be able to create our own scenarios, and have officers work out there in our communities go in and give them different scenarios and have them interact with the team. >> reporter: the simulator cost about $300,000 and was purchased by the denver police foundation. it's not just denver police that will use this. it will be available to law enforcement from across the region. a 14-year-old boy in south carolina has been charged as a juvenile with murder. he's accused of killing his father earlier this week then going to the local elementary school and shooting two students and a teacher. one of those students, a 6-year-old boy, remains in critical condition. and jacob hall's family says he is now on life support. investigators working to pinpoint what caused a deadly train crash in new jersey. the technology that some say may

thunderstorms around telluride, durango, gunnison here. and some park county into fremont county. a few thunderstorms here. and you can see those moving into jefferson county, conifer, highlands ranch. showers that moving through denver earlier at least from jefferson county into our area have fallen apart. there's a dry patch of air over the city. so most of the rain is near southern jeffco or the west side of pikes big moisture plume coming through! a big texas high down here, and a very weak little low pressure area moving in on top of that high. that's bringing the showers. there's a big low pressure trough forming, a weather changer next week. this high moves down to texas, a chance of a few isolated thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon. and on sunday, the front stays out of here. it doesn't arrive until late monday to tuesday.

"barely enough rain to wet down the deck and bring in the drying laundry." still has the laundry hanging out there in bailey this afternoon. the storms go away, showers by tomorrow morning, a few clouds lingering. partly cloudy to start day. and isolated thunderstorms develop in the afternoon. could see some is of those in denver. a smaller chance, believe it or not the more we have today coming up for tomorrow. so for tonight, 40s and 30s in the mountains. 40s and 50s down low. highs tomorrow a smij warmer, 70s and 80s out west.
