if you've been holding back on getting that puppy your kids have been asking for, new research may give you a new reason to get a pet. abc's doctor timothy johnson has more on some of the benefits of having a dog in the family. kids? and dogs. sure, it's cute. but today, new research? pointing to what could be a hidden benefit for children. researchers, writing in the c-d-c journal preventing chronic disease, sought to explore the health effects for young children of having a dog. they looked at more than six hundred children between four and 10... asking their parents to answer a series of questions about their kids' physical and mental health. their findings? just might perk up your ears. among the kids with pet dogs, only 12 percent tested positive on a questionnaire for anxiety. among the kids without dogs? 21 percent registered as anxious. surprisingly, having a
pup didn't seem to make a difference in kids' physical activity or weight? and a bigger study will be needed to see if the benefits touted in the study actually hold true. but ask any kid with a dog? and they will likely tell you that a fuzzy new member of the family is a welcome addition. with this medical minute? i'm dr. timothy johnson. the iowa men's and women's basketball teams were on the court tonight . josh has the highlights coming up next in sports. stay with your 24 hour news source, kcrg-tv9.
