smock has to give consent. but he is in a medically induced coma because 60 percent of his body is burned. heathman says she believes in her heart she is the only one smock would want to keep ththashes. "as his mom, i know what that dog meant to him, that was the only thing in this world corey had that meant anything to him." heathman is asking for the police to make some kind of exception. a dubuque man faces a murder charge in chicago after a dispute over a dice game. the chicago sun-times reports police arrested 23-year-old emmanuel harvey for a death on the city's south side last may. police say harvey and another person shot and killed 29-ymar-old alvin randolph. they say the 2 went to confnfnt another person for cheating in a dice game. randolph tried to break up the dispute. that's when police say harvey and the other person shot and killed him. the chago sun times reports harveys a graduate of city high in iowa city. one person is dead and another is injured after a car crash in fairfax.
walford died in the crash yesterday. her vehicle crossed the center line on highway 151 near prairie drive in fairfax and hit another vehicle head-on. then a truck smashed into the passenger side of skalsky's vehicle. 22 year old hannah looney of shellsburg was injured. she was in the second vehicle. one person is dead and another injured this morning from a grain bin accident. benton county sriff randy forsyth says a 56 6 ar old keystone man n s vacuuming grain into a semi at the benton grain company. that's in keystone. the sheriff says a wall of corn surrounding him collapsed, and covered him. they have not released his name. the state of iowa is producing more ethanol than ever before. the iowa renewable fuels association says the state produced more than 4 billion gallons of ethanol this year -- a new record. that's about 27% of all the nation's ethanol. the association says the state's 43
last year's production by increasing efficiency. people in dubuque now have an easier time tracking road conditions in another way. a live website shows you when a plow last cleared snow from e ery city street. all 23 of dubuque's snow plow trucks have an automated vehicle location tracker. information about where those trucks have been during a storm, shows up, live, on the city's website. the gps sensors t tck the actual snow plow blade, not the truck itself. so activity only shows up on the map, when the blade touches the ground. plow drivers use that information after a ststm to figure out which streets need attention. "some of my drivers will check the public site before they come into work and just see where they're at on their route. " dubuque e de the gps tracking system live to the public back in 2013. in recent years, they've had some technical issues getting that information on their website. but they recently switchededo a cellular system to help better share that data online. the city spends
year for the tracking system iowa's department of transportation is getting some feedback on a snow plow pilot program. it added new blue and white lights to some d-o-t snow plows this winter. the goal is to make the plows easier to see for drivers, and c c down the nunuber of crashes. " our early indications are the public's come back with some pretty positive comments of being able to see the blue lights being able to distinguish our trucks better " every snow plow in district 1, located in central iowa, has the new lights. at least 2 trucks in the other d-o-t districts also have them. right now, the iowa d-o-t is still looking for about 200 part time employees this winter. most of those positions are for snow plow operators. drivers are required to havava c-d-l license, but the d-o-t does provide training. the d-o-t's website has a page for people to apply. if you visit the grocery store
ringing bells is common place. bubueven after christmasasthe salltion army's fundraising campaign still has a ways to go. kcrg-tv9's forrest saunders is live this morning at the johnson county salvation army in iowa city. forrest, the salvation army is short of their goal but they are determined to get it. that's right chris and vicole. they still have another month, but they need to make 55 thousand more dollars. joining me now is patricia smith with the salvation army. what is your goal for this campaign? how do you plan to reach it? so far, the red kettle campaign has raised 270 thousand dollars. that means they still have5 thousand dodoars left to go. organizers say this funraising campaign is especially important because the money raised for this event accounts for 60 percent of the year's budget. to help boost donations the salvation ar is starting the big ten kettlelelub this week. credit union

family and friends are remembering a 21-year-old university of iowa student who week. during a bus crash in chicago on monday. control on interstate 55 early monday morning. the bus hit a construction sign. police swerved to avoid a pickup that moved into the bus's lane. four others had non life- threatening injuries. work and on track to graduate in may. she planned to continue er education and attend graduate school. friends say she was traveling to chicago to celebrate new year's eve with friends and her boyfriend. they described her as carivg and charismatic. 07:07:54 "i can't tell you how many times i would be upset and she would show up at my door with care packages, like fuzzy socks, and all of my favorite things. i've never had a friend like that." underwood's l led ones in des
raise enough money to create a 10 thousand dollalascholarship for human services students in her honor. waterloo police are investigating a report of someone firing a gun at a group of people. it happened around 2:30 yesterday afternoon in the 500 block of elm street. police say the initial report was that someone fired several times at the group. injuries. police found a small amount blood and several shell casings. 5 years in federal prison. 23-year-old dameon harris was convicted of being a felon and a drug user in possession of
a firearm. waterloo police say the charges stem from an april incident where he tried to hide a gun before officers arrived. harris is one of seven people arreed in waterloo part of the department of justice's "project safe neighborhood s." this is video from a news conference announcing those arrests. they stem from six incidents this past spring, one of them deadly. the goal is to try to stop

this morning.. family, friends, and military service members will honor an airman killed in afghanistan at his f feral todayay air national guard sergeant joseph lemm was 1 of 6 u-s service people who died in a suicide bombing on december 21st. sgt. lemm was born in dubuque and was a new york city police detective. about 50 family members left on a bus yesterday to head to his funeral. the service will be held at st. patrick's cathedral in new york city. sgt. joseph lemm is survived by his wife and their 2 children. republioan presidential candidate marco rubio says national security would be his top priority if he's e ected. the florida senator made several stops in eastern iowa yesterday, including one at the waterloo center for the arts. he told dozens of supporters that the government's number 1 job is to keepepmericans
the military to help fight terrorism. he also told voters that he would undo many of president obama's actions. new jersrs governor chris christie is tataing to voters in iowa today hoping to win them over for the republican presidential nomination. yesterday he made several stops in eastern iowa. one of those was at iowa city's hamburg inn #2 -- a traditional stop for those campaigning. he was critical of president obama's recent efforts to fight climate change. christie also questioned the governing experience of many o ohis opponents, both republicans and democrats. he says too many of them are vying for a position they are not prepared for. "now, we have candidates for president like hillary clinton, who comes from the senate, and marco rubio and ted cruz and rand paul who are from the senate, all who have never had an executive job in their lives." at that event, christie ao talked about his desire to create more accountabilit y for colleges and universities. christie also stopped in cedar
