" tonight at 10, kcrg-tv 9 dubuque bureau chief katie wiedemann will have a full report -- with the appreciation from those closest to staff sergeant joseph lemm. the legacy of the five sullivan brothers is forever stamped on waterloo -- the 5 young men who perished while serving in the pacific during world war ii. the widow of the youngest sullivan brother passed away on friday. the family of katherine mcfarland tells tv-9 that she died peacefully at her cedar falls nursing home just yesterday at age 93. katherine mcfarland was the widow of albert sullivan -- the only of the 5 brothers who married. katherine and albert married in 1940. a japanese submarine attacked the u-s-s juneau in november 1942, killing 683 men, including albert and his 4 older brothers - george, francis, joseph and madison. albert sullivan is seen here in this picture -- in the middle -- of the five brothers. mcfarland later remarried and

is pulling back from the mississippi, the missouri and the meramec after thursday's flooding closed them. members of the iowa national guard are in that region outside st. louis, helping with water purification. tv-9's brea love will report from missouri tomorrow iowans are helping those in missouri - recover... that's sunday on the kcrg-tv 9 news at 5:30 and 10. college student killed in a bus crash in chicago will live on at the university of iowa. loved ones of nicole underwood set up a scholarship fund in her name. underwood was studying social work and on track to graduate from iowa in may. she planned to continue her school. underwood was traveling to chicago to celebrate new year's eve with friends when the crash occurred on i-55 on monday morning. the scholarship fund has raised more than $5,000 in the four days it's been up. the scholarship will award 1 student in the human services department with
put toward their tuition. we've put a link to the go-fund-me page under this story on kcrg.com. one person died after crashing a snowmobile on new years day in marshall county. the marshall county sheriff's office says 25-year-old travis vandewalle was riding in a field just north of legrand around 6:30 last. a family member found him after he didn't return home. vandewalle was pronounced dead at the scene. investigators say the snowmobile likely overturned on him when he was trying to climb a drift. waterloo police arrested 3 people from a shooting downtown early on new year's day -- and the police chief released the audio to news outlets this morning... "shots fired right at 319. all units, shots fired club 319.
