the waterloo cedar-falls courier reports the lawyer filed to dismiss that lawsuit, after the settlement was reached on friday. back in 20-12, police say they saw ambrose pointing a gun at a crowd of people outside the new world lounge. a 20-13 grand jury decided not to charge the officer in the case. as part of the settlement with the family, the city and officers admitted no wrongdoing. cedar rapids police had a busy friday night investigating three separate shootings. police say the first shooting started around 7:30 on avenue southeast. officials say at least one person got hurt and is expected to survive. the third shooting police say happened around 1:45 saturday morning on the 900 block of maplewood drive northeast. one person went to the hospital with minor injuries. tv-9 sent a crew to the scene of the second shooting. police say it happened around 1:20 a-m saturday on the

of 18th street northeast and "a" avenue. officials say two people went to the hospital and are expected to survive. police are still investigating the three shootings, but have not made any arrests. this tuesday, president obama will leave a seat empty at his annual state of the union address. that empty chair will symbolize the lives lost to gun violence. president obama says he's taking executive action to expand firearm background checks and to close gun sale loopholes. closing those loopholes was the focus for democratic presidential candidate martin o' malley this weekend. yesterday, he met with people outside the cedar rapids gun show at hawkeye downs. event buyers and sellers had the opportunity to hear the former maryland governor, who's currently running in third place behind hillary clinton and bernie sanders. o'malley talked about the importance of the president's plan for gun control.
