the face without warning them. the suit claims murray also sprayed tina dean, who was 8 months pregnant, directly in the face. dean claims she did nothing to warrant that use of force. according to police reports, murray was attempting to arrest a 12 year old boy in the crowd. that's when police say the crowd then re-encircled murray. police say murray pulled out his pepper spray and sprayed it in a half circle motion towards the crowd. the attorney in this case told me today, "there's a real problem with police in dubuque and the city isn't recognizing it." in the law suit, the plaintiffs said they suffered severe and permanent injuries for the situation, including mental scarring. live in dubuque katie wiedemann kcrg tv-9 news. it's five days until the iowa caucuses. and on the democratic side, it's still too close to call. a new quinnipiac university poll shows hillary clinton and bernie sanders are in a statistical tie. vermont

sanders has 49 percent support. former secretary of state clinton has 45 percent support. but the margin of error is plus or minus four percent. the poll also found more men support sanders while more women support clinton. the university of iowa is responding after some of its athletes have been playing a part in presidential candidate events. members of the hawkeye football team came up onto the stage at last night's donald trump event in iowa city. they even gave him a jersey with a number one on it. and as kcrg-tv9's mark carlson shows us, while some might be upset about this, it's not against the university's policy. "we had a great football team, that i really enjoyed watching... that last game, we could have done maybe a little bit better, where is my football team, get over here football team." "come on up here, come on up, right.. get up. " at times tuesday night's donald trump rally in the iowa field house looked more like a hawkeye pep rally. one member of the

trump jersey. "vote for trump. go hawks! " "they were so nice, they endorsed trump, they like trump and i like them, i love you guys." trump also got members of the wrestling team on stage -- "you have an undefeated team, get the wrestlers up here, come on fellas. " earlier in the day hawkeye basketball star jarrod uthoff was also spotted at a carly fiorina event near the u-i campus, where he posed for pictures with the candidate before her speech. all the political activity involving student athletes and presidential candidates quickly raised questions about whether any ncaa rules violations had taken place. wednesday u-i athletic director gary barta said he was confident no violations had occurred. in a statement barta said in part, quote: "university of iowa student-athletes are encouraged to participate in the political

endorsement by a student or faculty member, their participation should not be considered representativ e of the entire team or university." barta went on to say the jersey given to trump was not an official jersey. in iowa city, mark carlson, kcrg tv nine news. we asked viewers what they thought about this on the tv-nine facebook page. here are some of the responses we got: kyra said: "it's disappointing to see these young men support a candidate who publicly disrespects women, minorities, and people with disabilities." christine wrote: "i'm hoping trump learns something valuable from these hard working men. you can be a winner without name calling and belittling people. he could learn a lot from our iowa hawkeye athletes." jenna told tv9: "i don't think it's fair for people to say they have lost respect for the football team because a few players are openly supporting a candidate." cameron said "this is why the hawks are great. they're not afraid to do something in

'hashtag go hawks'" stay with kcrg t-v nine for complete caucus coverage monday night. we'll have live reports from des moines and across eastern iowa along with expert analysis. it all starts at 8 p-m on kcrg 9.2 then, we'll have full coverage starting at nine o'clock right here on t-v nine. washington high school in cedar rapids is receiving statewide recognition for its work to close the achievement gap. 74 percent of the school's african american students are proficient in math and reading. that's compared to the state average of for african american students of 54 percent. educators say encouraging students to enroll in advanced placement courses is part of that success. but four instructional design strategists also focus on how teachers can better engage at-risk students. "teachers are overworked, they have a lot of students, sometimes they don't have time to expand on some of the

come in. we're able to provide those resources and the supports for those teachers so we can get down to each individual student and how they're achieving." the governor's office presented school officials with the breaking barriers award earlier this month. relaxing to rehabilitate. law enforcement are coming up with some interesting ways to help juvenile offenders. yoga, a common practice that relaxes people is now seeing success with these young

"it was pretty easy to draw them into it and quickly see the benefits of being involved in it." yoga classes are showing up in unusual places in linn county. this one takes place at the county's juvenile detention center. it's possibly a first in iowa. yoga classes that take place behind bars for offenders. kcrg-tv9's dave franzman says supporters already see some signs it's working to improve offenders' lives. the mats probably look the same.sot/nat the instructions sound the same. but as for location... that's definitely different. "the volunteer who started yoga instruction at the linn county juvenile detention center came to administrators a year ago and said, you know they're doing yoga at other prisons, mostly for adults, in other states, would you like to try it here? the answer was, well yes."

for both juveniles in custody and staff one day a week. some juveniles in custody were skeptical at first. but one says after doing yoga for awhile she started noticing some benefits. "it like calms me down if i'm frustrated " "i've had kids tell me when they're in their rooms at night they use this to fall asleep." instructor ordman teaches what's called "trauma informed" yoga. what that means is more of an emphasis on breathing control, stress relief techniques and emotional calming and less on the more exotic yoga positions. it's aimed at participants who have different needs and issues than regular yoga students. "what we're trying to do is help people who've experienced trauma to notice how the body and mind work together" juvenile center staff believe those who've taken part in yoga classes are less likely to have outbursts. sot/nat they believe that makes it worth the time and trouble. dave franzman kcrg tv9

deep ball? ez, his dad gordy who was quarterback at iowa in the early 80s. my dad. he knows how to do it . a little tweak here. a little tweak there.it has been a lot of his doing. matt once hit a uni school record seven threes in one game. as you get older, it gets quicker. in college game you have to get it off quicker. matt admits there were times early in his career when he would miss a few and struggle with his confidence. that is no longer a problem as i got older coaches and teammates told me i was one of the best shooters in the country. shoot your way out of it. some days it is there. some days it is not you have to fight through it. right now bohannon and his teammates are fighting through a season that has featured some incredible highs and incredible lows. .we need to dig

brother is hitting over 41 percent from behind the arc. we will feature the future hawkeye tomorrow night at 6:00. the kernels will hold their hot stove banquet tonight at the double tree. they will induct three new members into the cedar rapids baseball hall of fame. this years class includes reggie sanders who starred for the kernels in 1990 and played 17 years in the big's winning a world series and playing in the all-star game.. also being inducted tonight former manager tom lawless who led the kernels to the 1994 midwest league championship.. they will join public address announcer dale brodt who worked over 1700 minor league games and of course used to report right here at kcrg. and finally practice is underway for the senior bowl mobile. theirs a good look at iowa center austin blythe and he did a nice job blocking on this run and hawkeye tight end henry krager coble got mugged on this pass pattern. but the coaches say henry has impressive in practice.
