no symptoms. others may notice a lump in the neck. fryfest 2016 is celebrating hawkeye rivalries in light of the great history-making success of the 2015 iowa football season. iowa currently holds the heartland, cy-hawk, heroes, floyd of rosedale and big ten west trophies for the teams wins over wisconsin, iowa state, nebraska and minnesota, respectively. please read below for a brief history of each rivalry and trophy. all four will be on display throughout the tradeshow!

increasing their patrols. at the cedar rapids police department, a grant will pay for more officers to hit the streets. according to the iowa governor's traffic safety bureau, one third of deadly crashes in iowa involve drunk drivers. it's not the $3 a gallon we all saw a few years ago, but higher gas prices are out there in time for the labor day weekend. aaa reports the national average price rose for 14 $2.22 monday. in cedar rapids, drivers saw the price for a gallon of regular unleaded go down 2 cents in the last week to $2.21 but drivers in waterloo - cedar falls saw prices rise about 4 cents to 2.29. car driving by the 965 bridge over the iowa river in johnson county will have all lanes closed. repair work on the bridge is set to begin on tuesday. the bridge failed an inspection

preparing the decking. highway 965 is a popular detour for people who want to avoid i-380. johnson county estimates the bridge will stay closed until the end of november. but that work could take more than three months, if the weather doesn't stay dry this fall. "weather is key, so we'd like mild, warming temperatures, if we don't have those we'll deal with warming the concrete, but that can delay the project. " shueyville to i-380 and and then back through north liberty. a pair of long-term road closures in dubuque are set to begin early next week. road grading on the southwest arterial will begin on tuesday. due to that work, portions of seippel and cousins roads will close. drivers in that area are asked to use posted detours. governor terry branstad said he would not be upset if farm land he owned

bakken oil pipeline. the comments come after the iowa state patrol arrested 30 people at a protest in boone. the protesters are upset that the texas company, dakota access, is able to use eminent domain to get property rights in iowa for the pipeline. when it's finished, the pipeline will ship oil across 18 counties in iowa as it travels from north dakota to illinois. branstad says just because he supports this pipeline doesn't mean he's for big oil companies. he says while renewable fuels are an important still has its benefits. " both renewable fuel through ethanol, oil from north dakota that's going to be refined in america that can be helpful in keeping down the cost of energy and keeping us from relying on oil coming from the dangerous middle east and other unfriendly parts of the world. 24 " branstad says farmers are getting fair compensation in eminent domain cases during a time

workers are staying at a local campground instead of renting an apartment. the sunrise camp grounds would usually close in mid october. but it may stay open now for the winter to continue to house the workers. and local businesses are happy about that. " "hoping we get quite an increase from it, you know coming into the winter months now, we'll be slowing down so if we can get extra people that way, it'll be awesome." the city of storm lake is looking at making changes to allow for workers to the winter. just days after waterloo police make a bust in a human trafficking case, one of the girl's babies turned up at a fire station. on monday, lawrence campbell appeared in court on human trafficking charges. authorities say campbell ordered two 16 year old girls to engage in prostitution and steal clothes. police now say one of the 16-year-olds brought her baby to waterloo. officers say someone dropped off the baby at fire station 5 when the

fine, and had plenty of food and clean diapers. "the child has been reunited with her mother and everyone is back safe in chicago land." police believe the girls were in waterloo for about a week. donald trump has his second briefing with the f-b-i today, during a slow campaign day for both parties. this follows an active day of rallies in the swing state of ohio, where vice president joe biden and donald trump made a few stops. " donld to protect american jobs, security, and safety. " the republican presidential nominee also talked about trade and immigration during this stop in wilmington. democrats criticized trump's visit with mexico's president, especially regarding who would pay to build a border wall. " this is a guy who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth who's now choking because he's now got his foot in his mouth, along with the spoon."

all of hillary clinton's schedules of her meetings as secretary of state. the democratic presidential nominee did not make any stops yesterday and doesn't have any today. her running mate tim kaine isn't scheduled for any events either. her campaign did announce it raised a combined $143 million dollars in august for her presidential bid. johnson county is asking people to work at the polls on november 8th. the auditor's office says it needs about 400 people, plus others who may be moment. the county does pay the poll workers, and computer skills are a plus. we asked a few other county auditors about their needs for election workers. black hawk county plans to hire more than 300 poll workers and is also currently recruiting. dubuque county will hire at least 175 people and says it always has a need for more workers. and linn county says recruitment is going well, and it might not need to put out a special call for more workers. farm-runoff and water quality

senators and several members of county boards of supervisors learned how to better protect iowa's water and environment. the supervisors toured a facility at eldon stutsman incorporated in hills yesterday. during the tour and follow-up discussions, they learned about best practices relating to fertilizer, herbicide and manure applications. one state senator tells tv9 even though he has farming experience, he learned some new things. " it was just a very informative day, i farm my entire life and there are things today that i le technologies that are out there. " kinney says some of these technologies were expensive at first. but they are becoming more cost-effective. there's self-driving cars and now there's self driving tractors getting tested in the fields. the newest technology from case i-h next in our agribusiness report. but right now, here's a look at today's opening farm markets. good morning!

geiger. ---- there's self-driving cars being tested on the roads.. and now.. there's self driving tractors being tested in the fields.. at the farm progress show.. i headed to the case ih booth where they're surveying farmers by showing off the concept of a tractor that drives itself. it doesn't even have a cab computer or tablet a farmer could run the vehicle.. to do a pre- programmed route or task. on the front is radar and camera technologies that will stop for animals or debris and then let the farmer make decisions.. and it's new technology like this that can let a farmer rethink their operation. "well when you take a look at driver-less, you're taking this technology and you're scaling it either large or small. this allows them to look at efficiencies in their

vehicle and be in the same field that maybe i'm harvesting grain in and could be doing a tillage operation for a grain cart, so it allows me to two for one meaning you used to have maybe two operators and now you can have that one operator supervise multiple other vehicles in that field." bose says case ih is looking for input from producers on the idea.. and says they can fill out a survey on case ih dot com.. ---- not want deere and company to buy monsanto's precision planting farm equipment business. on wednesday they filed a lawsuit to stop it.. the justice department says the deal would violates antitrust laws. deere announced it will fight the lawsuit.. calling the antitrust concerns misguided.. last year monsanto announced the sale of its precision planting unit to deere.. in a deal estimated at a hundred and 90 million dollars. ---- cattle are struggling at the start of the month.. while corn and wheat are seeing some nice gains..

perspective on the size of this tropical storm, this is what it looks like from space. these images from nasa shows tropical storm hermine approaching and landing in florida this morning. it weakened to a tropical storm as it moves farther inland today. schools in hawaii are reopening this morning after some rough weather from tropical storm madeline. now everyone's watching hurricane lester. the category 3 storm is moving closer to hawaii. close to or over the hawaiian islands this weekend. one red cross volunteer from cedar rapids has left for hawaii. he'll help people get ready for the storm. " our community, the way i look at it, community doesn't stop at the city line or county line, so i'm happy to go to another part of the country and help. " forecasters are predicting lester will have maximum sustained winds near 125 miles per hour. get on the ground, now! hands

this video shows a police officer in waterloo pulling a man's hair, hitting his head, and using strong language during an arrest in april. police just released this yesterday. they say it came after a dangerous high speed chase in waterloo. now a state prosecutor says the officer who made the arrest won't face any criminal charges. the prosecutor says jurors could potentially understand why officer adam wittmayer was upset. but for 24-year-old case. police say he's the man who started the high speed chase. that chase reached 90 miles an hour in and out of waterloo. police say keller almost hit wittmayer as he put down spike strips, which eventually ended the chase. police chief dan trelka says his officer's behavior in the video is not acceptable. "even though the officer was almost struck under any circumstances we don't condone that type of behavior that's why we issued an internal investigation and ultimately disciplined the

trelka did not go into the details of that discipline. but he says it was significant family and neighbors in dubuque say they are still grieving over the loss of nancy krapfl. the 66 year old church secretary was on an early morning walk one year ago when police say a man attacked her and beat her to death. family and friends held a vigil in jackson park last night. there, they prayed and released balloons with messages written on them. her family members say ",'it's just the anniversary of an event that we hoped would never happen but it did 15:05:19 '. " neighbors say their neighborhood isn't the same since her death. police arrested helmon betwell for 1st degree murder and 1st degree sexual abuse in the case. police say he was breaking into cars at the time, saw krapfl at that early hour, and then severely beat her and raped her. he told officers that he had

in a facility where he can get a psychiatric evaluation. a former school bus attendant in cedar rapids faces a minimum of 10 years in federal prison for enticing young girls who rode on his bus. tyler konigsmark has pleaded guilty to one count of enticement of minors. he's 20 and from cedar rapids. he says he asked three girls who were 12 to 14 years old for sexually explicit pictures. he also admitted having sex with the 12 year old. the court has not set a a new statue of former iowa hawkeye football coach hayden fry is ready for its big reveal today. coralville plans to unveil the statueduring the annual fry fest activities. before, as you can see, the statue was in storage at the coralville marriott. the city used money from past fryfest events and other festivals to pay for it. the reveal is just one of the many activities you'll find at this year's fry fest. with just one day between them and the start of the

star where they started on thursday. the dow, nasdaq and s and p 500 only changed a fraction of a percent during trading yesterday. mortgage rates rose slightly this week amid expectations the federal reserve could raise rates in the near future. still, rates remain at historically low levels. freddie mac says the average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage stands at 3 point 4-6 percent. that's up from 3 point 4-3 percent last week. fifteen year

week, going from 2 point 7-4 percent to 2 point 7-7 percent. more americans are applying for unemployment benefits. the labor department reports 2 thousand more people applied this week compared to last week. that brings the total to about 263 thousand. weekly applications have stayed below 300 thousand for 78 straight weeks. that's the longest streak since 1970. fewer people bought cars in august. general motors saw its sales drop 5 percent last month compared to august of 2015. volkswagen also saw their sales decline. fiat-chrysler and subaru actually increased sales last month. experts say that's because of buyers' higher interest in suv's. and walmart is cutting 7 thousand back office store jobs. the company says it wants to get employees out of the backrooms and onto the sales floor. walmart expects most of its displaced worekers to find new jobs involving direct contact with customers. it's here's a live look at on our city cam.
