gave radio interviews today in states that are still up for grabs. democrat hillary clinton and republican donald trump also joined the millions of other americans who voted today. and they each made final pushes to get people to the polls. "everybody's talking about the record turn out at the polls, it's amazing, but please go to the polls. we have a movement going on, they've never seen anything like it." "i know how much responsibility goes with this and so many people are counting on the outcome of this election, what i'll do the very best i can if i'm fortunate enough to win today." donald trump is still making claims of possible fraud in this election. he filed a lawsuit over a polling place in the las vegas area staying open too long on friday. long lines kept the polling place open about three hours past closing time. a nevada judge quickly rejected that lawsuit. t-v nine's forrest saunders and dave franzman

awaiting results in races across the state. they're hoping to pick up another seat in congress and win full control of the state legislature. kcrg t-v nine's forrest saunders joins us live from the marriott in downtown des moines. putting a lot emphasis on the senate race tonight? will grassley have another six years. that's what a lot of the republicans heading here tonight will wait to see. the u.s. senator from new

top 25 longest- serving senators in american history. if grassley gets a seventh term, he'll be iowa's. since the mid-80s, he's won every reelection with more than 60% of the vote. the stakes are high for republicans to hold his seat. if they want to retain their majority in the senate, democrats cannot pickup more than four or five seats, depending on who wins the election. patty judge, iowa's former lieutenant governor and first female secretary of agriculture, aims to be the first to beat grassley. however, the last poll out register, had grassley with a huge margin of victory-- 23 points. iowa republicans attribute their perceived success in this race and the presidency in the state to a better ground game than they had four years ago. more field offices. more door knocking. kicks off at 7:00. we'll be talking about the senate race and get the state party's reactions. for now-- i'll send it to dave fransman forrest, it's going to be a couple of hours before supporters start showing up here since iowa polls don't close until nine o'clock. but party leaders are here and they're turnout in some traditional democratic counties around the state. party leaders say those who show up early at the iowa democrats' election night party in des moines will be watching early for what's happening in the national race. voting ends much earlier in the closely- watched state of florida and early returns there could tell democrats what kind of night it will be for hillary clinton. one thing to watch in iowa is control of the state senate and a former state

on the democratic side, kcrg t-v nine's brea love joins us live from monica vernon's campaign office in cedar rapids. brea, vernon is still pushing for votes? bruce, some might think election day is the day where happens but that's not for everyone. we followed monica vernon around as she made one final push for voters. vernon and her three daughters went door to door around the southwest side of cedar rapids this afternoon. they stopped and talked with people who had yet to vote, and even some who had already made their choice. she wanted to stress her stance on the economy and the need for jobs. vernon says it's not time to wait for the results, because

"50:26we're working it to the end. it's so important and this is the kind of work ethic i bring to the job. you just keep on working until you get the job done." she planned to knock on as many doors as she could throughout the afternoon. we will be following vernon throughout the night as the polls come in. we're heading over to her watch party where they will wait for the results. live in cedar rapids, brea love, kcrg-tv nine news. kcrg-tv9's katie wiedemann is live at blum's campaign headquarters in dubuque. katie, what are they doing in the last hours of election day? they are here calling registered republican supporters to make sure they didn't sit this one out. congressman blum said that's a re-assuring sign. blum himself spent part of the day calling people to make sure they voted. he says he and his campaign team have spent the past few months talking issues with voters both door to door and at events. he says all of the

knocked on 80-thousand doors. our team has during this election cycle. and we are approaching 200-thousand phone calls. that's a huge effort. " congressman blum separates himself from other politicians by saying he will never be a career politician. and while blum does support trump, he not on the white house or what's happening in washington, but rather what voters are doing right here in iowa. live in dubuque, katie wiedemann, kcrg t-v nine news turning to the news of the day... police have arrested a des moines man in connection with a stabbing at this summer's iowa state fair. craig hunt is facing an attempted murder charge. he is 21.

august 21st, they found a man with two stab wounds on the state fair grounds around 10:20 at night. he survived that attack. the state patrol announced hunt as a suspect last month. they arrested him this afternoon. cedar falls police have arrested a man for a fatal crash this past weekend. charles brooks faces a felony charge of serious injury by a motor vehicle. he's 42 and from champlin, minnesota. police say brooks was speeding when he crashed into the back of a mini-van around midnight saturday. that was in the area of falls. the crash killed cynthia brooks, who was in the back seat of charles brooks' vehicle. four others were also injured in the two vehicles, including a girl who is seven. more than one-thousand law enforcement officers gathered today to lay to rest one of their brothers. urbandale police officer justin martin died in an ambush attack last week. amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch,

friends, family and officers packed the rockwell city middle school gymnasium. martin grew up in rockwell city. his fellow officers say the town lost a hero, and young people should strive to be like martin. martin was an eagle scout and friends say he was a dedicated leader. races that could decide whether change over the next four years has a chance. t-v nine spoke with a political expert about what the iowa senate race says about the future of the senate. it's a race democrats were excited about early--- they recruited patty judge to run against longtime senator chuck grassley. but according to the polls--- things have not gone as planned. grassley-the chairman of the senate judiciary committee has weathered the storm after refusing to hold confirmation hearings for judge merrick garland's nomination to the supreme court. it was a move that angered

six term senator. political expert eli yokley says grassley has built up enough stay power in his state--- turning out consistently decisive wins during his tenure. 5307 people know him pretty well in iowa and they like him. hes been there a long time. hes made it a point to be there now 83--- grassley will be pushing 90 by the time his this next term is finished--- leaving many are wondering when the senator will call it quits. yokley says the democraphics in iowa have been changing as they have across the country--- so when grassley does retire-his seat may be up for grabs. reportin 9 news. stay with your 24 hour news

--but ankeny starts to turn the tables after that as the hawkettes score 11 of the next 14 points to grab a 6 point lead... --ankeny storms back to win the next 3 sets and knocks linn-mar out of the tournament, 3-2. also in 5a, hempstead battling west des moines valley...tigers already up 2 games to none but hempstead rallied in the third...amber cooksley with the block...mustangs up 5-2... --then hope splinter serves one that valley can't control....hem --how about another ace from splinter as the mustangs take set three 25- 21.... --but valley answers to win the 4th set as the tigers take the match 3- 1.... in class 4a wahlert made quick work of lewis central with the 3-0 sweep.. mckenzie may who will sign her letter of intent with ucla tomorrow dominated this match with 27 kills john campbell continues our team coverage from the cell.

the tigers were loaded for bear. there is a lot of pressure because coming in number one there is a big target on your back but we knew if we played to our potential we should be able to beat this team. but the tigers handled that pressure quite nicely in their match with west des moines dowling. game two and grace burken with the special delivery. now it is claire gerdes driving one home. the tigers advanced in three straight. in the other noon starter, iowa city west in the ranked ankeny centennial. first game and emma norris hammers one home .... norris was a real force for the women of troy. this gave them a 25-24 lead.... and they stunned the jaguars on the ace serve by chandler haight to win the first set 26-24. centennial won sets 2 &3....and they finally put away the women of troy 25-23 ..... from the state volleyball tournament in cedar rapids, this is john campbell reporting.
