of one of the victims is asking for your help. aaron brilbeck has the story.. this past weekend kristine buttermore did something no mother should ever have to do. she buried her daughter. 34-year old allison backstrom of des moines was driving back from a las vegas vacation october 29-th with her boyfriend, jeffrey christiansen, when the couple's car crashed on rain slicked roads. buttermore remembers getting the news from her son. "his voice kinds cracked a little and he said the deputies were just out here and told me that allison was killed in a car accident today. and that just won't leave my mind. i just started yelling like no, no. god no." backstrom was a mother of two children...four year old johanna and two year old elaina jane. she was a student at isu studying environmental land use. but most of all, her family says she was a drama

"oh yeah. she was a real hippie chick. used to love tie die, she loved widespread panic, grateful dead, phish, salmon. i said about any sea life that had a band she was...but she loved going to concert." "beautiful person. she loved her kids a lot. to me i was mr. fix it. if anything breaks she'd bring it to me. she just loved to fish and have a good time."buttermore says the day before her daughter was killed she had a bad feeling that something was going to happen. almost a premonition. so strong, she says, it made her cry. "so i stopped what i was doing and texted all my kids. and said i don't know what's wrong but something's not right with the universe. drive carefully. whatever you do just drive carefully. and then the next day was the accident"the family says the funeral service was filled with more laughter than tears as family and friends remembered backstrom. her family says that's just the way she would have wanted it. "that laughter. her smile. and talking about her children, my

allison did not have life insurance. if you would like to help her family with final expenses, a go fund me page has been set up for them. the iowa division of criminal investigation is looking into a fatal shooting in northern iowa. the calhoun county sheriff's office found a man dead inside a home in pomeroy around two this morning. the victim's name has not been released. no arrest have been made, but investigators don't believe the public is in danger. fast food workers across the country .. and here in iowa walked out on the job today in a protest for higher wages. 13:41:20 yeah, trying to save money- living at home now. hopefully i can get another job and make things,

the race heading into winter, when voters will start to pay more attention to the election. in milwaukee, joel waldman, fox news. the democrats seeking their party's nomination will debate this saturday... in des moines. hillary clinton, martin o'malley, and bernie sanders take the stage at drake university, starting at eight o'clock. the senate today passed a broad defense policy bill that would block guantanamo bay prisoners from being brought to the united states. it was an overwhelming and bipartisan vote - 91 to three. the president made closing the detention center in cuba a key campaign promise. but tuesday's vote gives the senate more than enough support to override a presidential veto. congressional republicans however, fear the president might choose to use his executive authority to close gitmo. the president's spokesman hinted that option is possible. the stakes are high for five million undocumented immigrants living in the u-s as president obama's plans to protect them are challenged by the court of appeals.

activists are offering a 55- thousand reward and relocation for anyone with information leading to the boy's killer. officials say there are no survivors after a plane crashed into an apartment building in ohio today. all nine people on board were killed, according to the company that leased the aircraft. the small jet took off from dayton and was on approach to land in akron when it clipped a telephone line. it then hit an apartment building and crashed into an embankment. investigators say that no one was inside the homes and no one on the ground was hurt. former president jimmy carter has received good news on his latest health battle. his doctors say the cancer has stopped spreading and he's "responding well to treatment." the 91-year-old announced in august that four cancer spots had spread to his brain.

he is now undergoing cancer treatment at emory university's winship cancer institute. two weeks ago, the world health organization declared processed meat a carcinogen. now a new study links grilled and barbecued meat to kidney cancer. jennifer whalen explains the risk. a warning for those who love pan fried meats, or backyard barbecues with lots of steak... a new study in the journal of cancer research links higher meat consumption with a higher risk of kidney cancer. researchers examined the diets and genetic information of kidney-cancer patients... then compared them with healthy men and women. they found the kidney cancer patients ate more meat, both red and white, than the healthy people. specifically, they looked at meat cooked over an open flame, which health experts say can create carcinogens. they also found a certain genetic mutation that made the patients more vulnerable to kidney cancer... suggesting genetics may play a role. some things to keep in mind: the research only looked at the most
