carried out the attack were killed in a shootout with police. tonight we are learning more about the male shooter, syed farook, and whether he held radicalized beliefs, potentially contributing to his motives. paul vercammen has the latest. as the nation mourns another mass shooting... authorities in san bernardino are tasked with figuring out what was behind wednesday's massacre. investigators have spent hours inside this home where syed farook and his wife lived... they have found an arsenal of weapons... thousands of rounds of ammunition and material to make pipe bombs. "we did locate the one pipe bomb. that was actually three pipe bombs combined into one that had a remote control, car type of remote control device that appears to have not worked in this case."farook was a 28-year-old u-s citizen, with no criminal record, and an employee of the county health department. he abruptly left a workplace holiday gathering wednesday -- reportedly angry -- and came back with his 27-year-old wife, tashfeen malik and opened fire. the f-b-i and other law enforcement officials are attemping to trace who farrok had been in touch with, where he traveled, and what may have prompted his actions. law enforcement officials say farook had been in toucwh more thanrson on the f-b-i dar -for rrorism reasons-though ngh priority -- via phone and cial media. officals also said the mmunications weren't frequent. ere was obviously a mission here, we know that. we do not y.authorities are in the ocess of identifying tswst their lives

his first appearance in court today. michael wanchanic is charged with two counts of first degree murder. he's accused killing heather belieu and bryon howard. they were found dead on monday inside a home in des moines. two children were also found in the home ... they were unharmed. wanchanic was arrested on tuesday night after a four hour standoff on highway 141 in dallas county. his next court appearance is scheduled for december 14th. wanchanic was also wanted on a probation violation.. two weeks ago -- he plead guilty to first degree harassment after threatening to burn down a woman's house with her and her children inside. that women was wanchaneic's ex - girlfriend. she filed a report from her home in melcher dallas in june of this year. according to a police report the threats and harassment lasted for weeks. police say wanchanic would call and text his ex -- hundreds of times a day, show up at her work and even damage her property. marion county sheriff jason sandholdt says wanchanic is a

the a-i-b college of business has sold three apartment buildings... the school says it sold the buildings at the southwest corner of its campus for 2-point-2-5 million dollars. the property includes 60 one- bedroom apartments and four acres of land. the purchasing company says the buildings will continue to be used as apartments. this is the last academic year for a-i-b... once the school has closed and all financial obligations have been satisfied, all remaining cash will be transferred to the university of iowa. an altoona man is 100-thousand dollars richer... john jennings claimed the fifth of eight top prizes in the iowa lotterys 'jokers wild' scratch game. he claimed his prize today at the lotterys headquarters in clive. jennings purchased his winning ticket at an altoona caseys. mother nature isn't the only one heating up central iowa...

ver the last 23 days. ive met with well over 1000 alumni the new university of iowa president has been on the job bruce harreld attended his first board of regents meeting... since becoming president... harreld has met with the faculty senate, local and state government. he also took a trip to washington to meet iowas congressional delegation. he said he is taking in everyones concerns.. big. he said one thing hes noticed is

after a husband and wife opened fire at a san bernardino conference center, killing 14 people and injuring 21. it is the deadliest mass shooting incident in this country since sandy hook. as president obama addressed the horror, he seemed almost dejected and frustrated that he was addressing yet another mass shooting in america. joe johns reports. president obama ordered flags at half staff in honor of the san bernardino victims and issued a statement in the oval office, surrounded by his national reassuring, but full of with uncertainty after briefings the san bernardino attorney general and fbi director "at this stage we do not know why."and that's the key question still unanswered what was the motive? n brazil, impeachment proceedings against the nation's president, dilma rousseff, began today. her administration has been tainted by several corruption scandals that involve many members of her party. a special commission will now look at the facts and rousseff will have 10 working days to present her defense to the charges. if the commission rejects it, both houses of congress will then vote on whether or not rousseff stays in power as brazil's first female president. blade runner oscar pistorius -- has been found guilty of murder by a south african appeals court-- that threw out a former manslaughter conviction. the paralympic champion had originally been sentenced to five years in jail for shooting girlfriend reeva steenkamp back in 20-13. he claims he mistook her for an intruder -- when he pulled the trigger -- shooting her four times through a locked door on valentine's day.
