"less than an hour into their shift they were engaged in a foot pursuit and they recovered a weapon."it's been said that we work better when we work as law enforcement uses more federal resources -- that can make it harder for the few who do cause problems.

terry an update to a story... 28 news has been following for months. months.a waterloo woman has now been charged in the death of a toddler at her in-home day care. 18-month-old brody harrelson was accidentally suffocated by a car seat strap in june. police say nine other children were in the daycare at the time. yesterday, 41- year-old amy hangartner was taken to the black hawk county jail and charged with child endangerment. this morning, a firey crash killed a young mother and her son in iowa county. county.sheriff rob rotter says it happened about five miles west of marengo just after seven. tonight, investigators

year-old bethany clark and her two year old son roran, were traveling on highway 2-12 when they hit a patch of frost.the car went off the road, crashed into a creek and burst into flames. slick roads also played a role in a chain reaction accident in cedar rapids. all started with a multi-vehicle crash on edgewood road near the eastern iowa airport this morning. cedar rapids police tell fox 28 news one of their officers was responding to the scene when they crashed as well.the officer was taken to the hospital but is expected to be o-k. explosions and gunfire rocked the indonesian capital today. today.tonight, isis is claiming responsibility for the attack that shared characteristics with the paris attacks last month.two people were killed, along with five attackers.local security officials say they're confident that they've identified all those responsible. despite headline grabbing attacks like today, experts say isis is losing a sizeable amount of territory it

the studio.tomorrow at 7 on fox28 morning live. governor terry branstad laid out his plans for iowa at the statehouse this he and lieutenant governor kim reynolds are traveling the state trying to sell citizens on the plan. 28 news caught up with the lieutenant governor in cedar rapids today.she defended the governor's plan to increase education spending by more than two percent. critics say that's barely half of what's needed.reynolds countered, saying that's simply all the state can afford. weather today.sun and winter warmth was welcomed after a round of sub-zero temperatures. fox 28 news reporter mellaney moore found crews normally busy during winter weather, were busy today too. too. it's been freezing.a& now it's thawing.the cycle is a recipe for road problems.we're filling some potholes. with the warmer temperatures they're starting to show up more so than when we had colder that ice is melting from the holes, iowa city public works says it's a good time to fill them. we kind of know the problem areas and then we go and try to hit those.this isn't the only crew out today.well we've got some warmer temperatures today, so it's kind of a clean- up day. we know that temperatures are going to get cold soon.salt is only effective at 15 degrees and above, so the city's public works department is taking this warm window of opportunitya&to use it.while its warm out, we've placed salt down in areas we have compacted snow and ice and allowing that to work a little bit so we break the bond between that snow and ice and

that one out of every five kids has been bullied in the last year.and the figure grows when you factor in online attacks.but some kids are fighting back, by launching a 28 news reporter sheila gray shows us how howin tonight's family 4-1-1. 4-1-1. it was just a lot from a lot of different people. it ranged from insults to go kill yourself.i was always the kid that wanted to be in the cool kid group. i changed so much to fit it.talking about bullying isn't easy for noah and felicity. their high school play brought out a lot of feelings for them.all i could think about was that girl's takes a lot of guts to go on stage and be vulnerable and put yourself out there in very serious moments.the play is the bullying collection- real life

playwrights. these young actors have their own real life stories.i watched her sit in her bedroom and cry for hours. it is one of the most heartbreaking things you can go throughit's why this group of drama students told their teacher, they needed to do it. because it spoke to us in more than one way.remember projection, energysome scenes are funny. others are all too real.we were all silent, waiting for footsteps and more student actor told me she has sat in class and planned how to escape. they all admitted being guilty of standing by and doing nothing to stop bullying. the play's taught them, they need to take a more active happens in a lot of places, and it can be stopped.the issue hits home for their teacher too. she was surprised when some of the students told her they'd experienced the trauma of bullying just really shocked me. some kids

the kid that you think wow, they really have it all together. sometimes that kid is hurting the most.even though the play's behind them, the kids are wearing bracelets with the play's message - hoping to take it beyond the start a conversation is the point of this play (cut) to give a voice. that's why we were on the stage.i do think that every school needs to start a conversation, whether through fine arts or through counselorsi'm sorry you made it your missing to make sure i was never one of you.what i got from this play is that every action you make, every word you speak has an affect on someone.these teens say they'll carry on the message - in their own actions. they hope for the victims, the message won't come too late. sheila gray on
