the attack at a scscol in newtown conneticut. and new this morning, authorities have identified the second suspect as tashfeen malik along with syed farook police say they were the two armored attackers who killed 14 eople in san bernardino, california. california.a third person was detained after they were seen running near a gun battle that killed the two suspects in the crime. crime.right now -- police aren't sure if that third person had anyththg to do with the crime.police say malik and farook-who were married to each other, opened fire on a holiday banquet hosted by the county's public health department.farook workrk as an environmental specialist for public health.a co-worker said farook was at the banquet and later disappeared. police say explosive devices were also found near the site where police and the suspects got into a shootout, which is about two miles away from the original shooting.farook and malik were both killed.the police chief said the bomb squad was working late into the night to disarm the devices. the f-b-i says they are

there were planning to attack a high school.the 10-to-11 year olds have since been released into the custody of their parents.police say "outside influence" led the students to build a device -- but it wouldn't have blown up. at the university of north carolina -- the campus was put on lockdown for a short time yesterday morning.an alert was sent out from an anonymous call about a gunman entering a building on campus.sirens warned students and faculty to stay inside -- but no suspect was ever found and the campus was cleared about a half hour later. continuing coverage of a corridor murder trial.... trial....where jurors heard the first full day of testimony in the case against edward cusic. cusic.he's accused of killing his mother with a crow bar nearly three years ago. wednesday, prosecutors played audio from a police ar cusic rode in after the killing.the jury also eard from an officer who witnessed cusic's behavior after his arrest. audio recording: she ran to me with a dagger in her hand. so i ran to the garage for a crow

at some of eastern iowa's top stories -- on this morninin.. in iowa city -- a week-long commemoration of world aids day continues.the johnson county public health department hosted a variety of educational events -- including free h-i-v testing. the centers for disease control say more than two thousand iowans and 200 residents in johnson county are infected with h-i-v.they also say one new infection occurs every nine--and-a-half minutes in the u-s. tonight the league of conservation voters is hosting a town hall on iowa's water quality.the event will call on governor branstst, state lawmakers and the dnr to take stronger action to protect the state's water.it will be held tonight at 7 at the environmental education center in iowa city.

percent funded.that's actually better compared to last year's report.right now -- the pension fund has 346-thousand members including current and retired public school employees and workers for counties and cities. in iowa city, city,two lawsuits are prompting city leaders to considir extending deadlines for the chauncey towerer construction on the 15-story building is scheduled to begin this summer.in october, leaders at the trinity episcopal church filed a suit against the proje.the building is planned to go up across thehestreet from the historic church.the city council will take up the extension at its meeting on december 15th. the iowa city community school district is considering a magnet school and wts your opinion. opinion.magnet schools are public schools that offer an education with a specific theme.parents can choose them based on the curriculum -- instead of geography.the district's superintendent says the idea came from communitit members and started a discussion in a committee appointed by the district board in 2014.for now -- the district is hoping for community feedback on their survey.
