types on our website. website.for a full list visit cbs 2 iowa dot com. the combination of snow and ice created challenging conditions across much of the area all day.several cities have declared snow emergencies. tow bans are also in effect for several counties including linn and johnson.a number of collisions have been reported and police are urging caution if you do have to be out on the roadways throughout the night and into the morning. but for a snowfall expected to make things difficult for many drivers - some would call today unusual. unusual.cbs 2 news reporter steffi lee isisive in northeast cedar rapids near first avenue and collins road. still a lot of freezing rain, snow and sleet taking over these roads here.but even with slippery roadways - marion police says they haven't gotten calls for any car accidents. accidents.corporal jeff hartwig with the marion police

safety.there are ways we can keep ourselves and loved ones safe when this kind of weather hits. cbs 2 news reporter dora miller continues our live team coverage. sometimes we have to get out in this weather -- maybe not by choice. but if you find yourself out here in this very cold, wet weather...there are ways to avoid a trip to the er. first, make sure you're wearing the right clothes. even though we're not in the negative temperatures, this wind chill and wet snow can make for a bad combination. gloves and layers are a must. take breaks often. stay hydrated and don't over exert yourself if you're not used to doing a lot of physical activity. the snow isn't going anywhere so doctors also recommend taking your time.
