good morning, america. this morning -- race to safety. thousands more suddenly force to flee as a dam is set to burst in louisiana. and the levees can break through at any moment. on top of it all, isaac is now spawning tornadoes. horror terribly gone. oh, no. >> wave crasher. dramatic moment when this boat hit the waves hard, tossing passengers. so, what went wrong? and getting ugly. the divorce between seal and heidi klum takes an ugly turn when the singer said this about his wife's relationship with her bodyguard.

all? we'll turn it to ron claiborne. >> quite a brawl in your home state. thousands of more people are being forced from their homes days after isaac slammed into louisiana. officials are trying to relief pressure of a dam lock. abc's ryan owens joins us now live from new orleans with the latest. good morning, ryan. >> reporter: ron, good morning to you. all night the army corps of engineers were in parish, watching all night that particularly lock, after authorities slightly opened up the gates to relieve some pressure, so far that's working. but what another tense night. police cars raced through the streets, helicopters hover above and the radio blares the latest call to get out. five days after isaac roared
ashored and people are still being forced from their home. this time, as many 200,000 residents. this time it's a lock under so pressure it could break. sending water cascading through several neighborhoods. >> we want to make sure that we have it in stable condition. >> all across the gulf coast, most are cleaning up and lining up for water and ice. >> thank you all. we're going to head home. >> reporter: hundreds of thousands have been without power in this oppressive heat for five days. >> this is my first hurricane and i don't want another one. >> reporter: in parts of this hard-hit parish, the only way to get home is by boat this is new video of the moment of the levee's vulnerable west bank was topped. drowning so many homes. jesse shaffer rescued a lot of
neighbors as it rose. now he's taking them back. >> i could see it in their eyes. >> reporter: without question, the biggest frustration for many people here on the gulf coast is the lack of power. those who lost it on tuesday, about half of those still don't have it back in metro new orleans and ron, the heat enindex today is expected to top 105. >> more misery for those folks down in louisiana. from new orleans and nato is responding to the recent wave of attacks by afghanistan forces on american troops. u.s. special forces, special operations that is, is freezing a program training some afghan security forces for at least a month. at least 30,000 recruits will be revetted to try to root out infill traitors.
and a fund that was supposed to be a fun family boat ride, ended up in a horrific accident that was caught on tape. all seven passengers being tossed around a rag doll after their boat hit a large quake. they're flown to the floor there. everybody on the boat was injured. and the legendary songwriter behind some of the most enduring popular hits has died. ♪ rain drops keep falling on my head ♪ >> hal david, his songs were recorded by artist, frank sinatra, aretha franklin, hal david was 90 years of age. finally, build your own

>> reporter: it was a sinking feeling. the crash and the fire ball. this morning, we should learn the dead pilot's name. the investigation will take longer. it starts with the video tape. warning some of this may be hard to watch. three jets in tight formation. over the crowd at the davenport, iowa, air show. it's a beautiful sight. but in a matter of seconds -- it all goes horribly wrong. end in a fiery crash right in front of the labor day air show spectator and ladies and gentlemen. >> this home video captured it all. the pilot going into complicated maneuvers. switching places mid-air. but one pilot seems to lose control before it dives straight down. >> oh, no! >> ladies and gentlemen, please keep your seats. >> reporter: massive fireball and then just smoke.
>> it went nose down into the ground and burst into flames. i was instantly in tears. and i knew more than likely he didn't survive. >> reporter: nearby, the smocking wreckage of the jet called the hopper, while the surviving hoppers grieved the loss of one of their own, witnesses deal with the disturbing memory and very scary. it was very emotional. i was filming it with my camera. so it was surprising. >> reporter: was there type of mechanical failure involved the investigation resumes today. dan? >> thanks, john. shifting gears now to the white hou race to the white house. president obama and mitt romney a dead heat. romney keeps aggressively campaigning across multiball ground states this week. it's your voice, your vote. abc's david kerley has more.

right now. race is still as david said basically a tied. one of the things that we have seen many years the convention bounces have been going down as television viewership has gone down. pay attention to the polls after the democratic convention. >> you said that he has to focus on the economy, economy, is that what we're going to hear about that during the debates? >> no question. he'll press mitt romney on his plans. he doesn't want this race to simply be about the obama record. he'll argue that the romney plans are going to hurt the middle class. >> and obama camp said that are feeling good about going into their convention this week, how do you think, you're talking to sources there. >> it's a dead heat. when they look at the battle ground states, they believe that the president, at least, has a

the 13-foot predator saturday morning just feet from where beach-goers swim. >> pretty scary. your adrenaline goes a little bit. he's stone dead, but my god. >> reporter: officials immediately closed the beach to swimmers, amid fears that more great whites may be lurking nearby. popular cape cod beaches are already shut down for the holiday weekend. officials there determined that it's not safe to go back in the water after boaters captured this shark-feeding frenzy and in a single day, seven sharks were spotted off the coast of two other cape cod beaches. some just feet from the shore. >> i'm glad that the summer is over. i don't think i'll go back in the water. >> scientists wasted no time trying to learn more about that shark. now it's believed to be a young male, weighing about 1600

it's a scene that's become all too familiar to anyone watching a football game. out of control fans. going too far. >> there's definite sli someone that was feeling some pain that have. >> reporter: at this 49 49ers/raiders game, fans erupted in the stands. in this eagles game, fists flew for a full minute before police ejected the brawlers. at this cleveland browns game years back, fans pelted officials with beer bottles. now, for the first time ever, all 32 nfl teams are putting their collective foot down. with a new rule said that if a fan is ejected for fighting they can never come back. until, get this, they apologize. and complete a four-hour online anger management course set up by this man. >> fans believe that they can behave any way they want as soon as they enter the stadium. >> reporter: with a
approximately 7,000 fans ejected from nfl games last season alone, can a class really stop this? >> many fans have stated that they have learned things. we're actually very pleased with the feedback we're getting from the fans. >> reporter: is fan violence getting worse or are we seeing more of it. >> over the years, tech nothing has gotten better. >> reporter: some think fan therapy is a loss cause. as long as the cash cow of all concessions, beer money, continues to flow. now, when fans get ejected they're i.d. ooed. now some more pain for those fans, you actually have to pay for the course, guys, it's between 50 and 100 buck and what a great business for him. i'm going to start a business where we teach -- >> it's an unbelievable business. >> do you think it can work.
>> i think this can oj work in the nfl. there are more season ticket holders in that league. >> we have seen fighting in the nba and baseball as well. but this is an interesting idea. all right, darren, great to have you here. time for weather and back over to ginger. i want to start with a look at severe weather. eye zook's remnants still circulating here. you see video there, memphis, this is what happened wind damagewise. you can see the emergency vehicles. coming back to the storm reports from yesterday, 15 tornadoes associated with isaac. lot of them here in arkansas, then central illinois too, 44 reported socialed with isaac since that whole thing started. that's what hurricanes can do. it all starts to get pretty
severe. today, still more threat. we could see more or the may does because of isaac. now it's around nashville. north carolina as well. could create some severe weather. up in the far northern plains, another little peak of severe weather. pretty hot where folks don't have electricity, new orleans. that's the big picture. >> the rain totals that come with isaac's remnants are going to continue to go down anywhere

that he would stand in front of the camera and making this snark comment. >> and there are reportedly a number of contentious issues that have pond up in the divorce. heidi is seeking primary custody of the kids. and keep in mind, dan and bianna she's worth almost four times as much as he is. >> you mentioned the kids, four kids there. >> it seems like there's a time and place for that kind of allegation. >> tonya, thanks. ron, other headlines for us. in the news, officials in louisiana are racing to relieve pressure from a canal lock that's threatening to fail, flooding hundreds of homes if it fails. 2,000 people were forced from their homes last night. the two men who allegedly
abducted a nevada teen, were arrested last night. investigators believe the suspects had a connection to her father's business. a well-kept secret to homemade beers. asking the president to share it and his assistant chef posted this video with the recipe. finally a seat belted teddy bear couldn't fool police. a woman was ticketed for trying to pass the bear for a passenger so that she could ride in the hoff lane. she tries to go to court to reduce the fine. dan, some legal advice for you. >> don't do that. allegedly don't do that. time for the weather and over to ginger zee. i want to start with a day at the beach, maybe that's what you're planning today. if you are in southern california, you need to take a little extra care. look at that surf, big as well

extinction. before leaving on vacation, our dan harris left us with his amazing story in search of the red panda. >> reporter: when the children press their noses up to the glass, captivated by these adorable, exotic, little red panda cubs. they're staring into the face of a mystery. why is this animal, which once roamed vast regions of the earth, now on the brink of extinction and could the answer save these creatures before they're gopher forever? our search for clues took us to the other side of to world. to the small sliver of the planet where red pandas can still be found in the wild. these are the foothills of the himalayan mountains. this city is best known for growing some of the world's finest teas. even though this is the red panda's natural has been tate,
the zoo is still the best place to see it. this zoo is one of the most successful red panda breeding centers in the world. they have teamed up a male and female hoping they'll make a love connection. and maybe some days those offsprings can be returned to the wild. but even if this particular matchmaking attempt is successful, zookeepers are very worried about what they call the red panda curse. they look right at you. >> yes. because of this cute-looking face and loving nature, hundreds of animals have been taken overseas. >> so they're cursed by their good look and yes, yes. >> reporter: as far as we know, the only place that red panda live in the wild is here. for reasons that scientists don't fully understand yet, everyday of the red panda has surfaced in a very surprising place.
here in the foothills of another mountain range, the blue ridge mountains of tennessee. >> needless to say i wasn't expecting a red panda. >> reporter: steven wallace and his team here at the grey fossil sight, have unearthed fossils b nothing prepared for them a single tooth was that was dug up a few years ago. >> the red panda. >> reporter: the shape and size of the tooth that links this red panda with the ones living today a world away. >> they were much more widespread at one time. >> reporter: he says that the tennessee red panda was probably much larger, probably the size of a mountain lion, in fact. so, why did they disappear? one theory, raccoons moved in and started competing for the same food. they're pretty curious. >> yes. >> reporter: the luck of the red
