good morning, everyone, at 5:00, we are starting you off accident free but we have a big of construction and congestion to get to. first, the congestion over the altamont pass, what is surprise, 37 miles per hour with bumper-to-bumper traffic away from tracy and 205 with things tapering off and we have eastbound traffic along 580 up to the dublin interchange. plan ahead. here is a look at our drive time traffic away from sausalito to san francisco, you are at eight minutes and highway 80 the bay bridge is eight minutes to get you from the maze to san francisco. the san mateo bridge headed away from hayward to foster city is 12 minute drive. outside, san jose, here we come, ready or not, 280, northbound, away from highway 17, a couple of headlights making it there in the northbound direction and it is still quiet. >> happening today the racial taunting of a black student will take center stage at san jose state university. civil rights and community groups will join forces with
university administration to call for tougher penalties for several white students charged in the case. our reporter is in san jose university. >> another rally by the black student union is scheduled for today before the press conference by the naacp which wants felony charges filed against the four san jose state students. here is video from last week, organizers call thed the black thursday with students showing support for the alleged victim, the prosecution says four white freshman used racial slur against the 17-year-old black student inside the campus housing with nazi images and a bicycle lock around his neck and locked him in his closet. they have been suspended. three have been charged with hate crimes and the four the is a juvenile. the san jose silicon valley naacp will hold a press conference on campus with the organization state and national office and san jose state
leadership calling for the santa clara district attorney to increase the misdemeanor charges to felony charges. san jose state president will be at the press conference today announcing they will hold a campus forum here at san jose state addressing racial tolerance. >> frightening moments aboard a flight from san francisco to new york after a bird strike at john f. kennedy airport. the pilot decleared an emergency after smelling smoke in the cockpit. he thought the birds struck the landing gear. >> bird strike that hit a landing gear. >> it was not the landing but the engine. look at damage from this photo: the airbus landed safely and no one was injured. >> good samaritan from stockton is credited with saving a woman's life after she plunged
from the third deck of the oakland coliseum yesterday. the woman was spotted on the railing after the game was over and fans shouted at her teller her not to jump. a 6-year-old marine vet stepped in to break the fall. >> had was a guy standing there with his arms out and i knew he would try to catch her. it happened in seconds. when she jumped she hit-and-run accident in the check with her feet and he went out cold to the concrete. >> the woman and the due samaritan are both in the hospital. she suffered life threatening injuries, he is in serious-but-stable condition. >> president obama is waking up on the west coast after a swing that will which you several stops arriving at seattle international airport yesterday and attended two democratic national competent fundraisers

the coast is 59 to 62. a few high clouds. temperatures are close to average. now the forecast for the morning commute. >> it looks sunny. we have clear conditions on the roads. we do not have too many accidents. actually, none whatever. an early accident cleared in tracy but it is causing a backup. in san jose, this is where we are quiet with top speeds at 101 headed out of alum rock, 237 is clear and 280 and 85 is great. 580 from tracy to dublin has congestion building over the altamont pass and 43 minutes gets you in the westbound direction and antioch to concord is 23 minutes and 101 is clear and outside we go and here is the toll bay bridge toll plaza h paying lanes loaded up.
president obama will arrive in the bay area today to talk about immigration reform. the welcome is a far cry from the visits after he won re-election. here is what he is phasing. amy? >> they are getting ready with a look at behind the scenes before the president gets here with the secret service inside the recreation center in san francisco having a meeting in preparation for the visit. invited guests in chinatown will hear the president speak on immigration reform. lee is in seattle holding fundraisers for the democratic party. the president is being met protesters greeting him in seattle and they will be here in van. the group code pink was already out last night and the president isn't even here yet. this is a rough time in his presidency, with the approval rating at an all-time low around
