celebration in south africa. >> thousands have gathered in the cold at a damp soccer stadium outside of johannesburg to say good-bye to nelson mandela. >> nearly 100 leaders from across the world are joining there to pay respects. >> reporter: it's a surprisingly cold, blustery day here at fnb stadium. the memorial service is due to get under way shortly. it's a fes tiff atmosphere. lots of dancing and singing. this weather has certain limb pacted the numbers. they were expecting a sellout crowd here. now they'll be lucky to fill the stadium, let alone the spillover stadiums they've prepared. some names of those coming, the 91 heads of state and government, including president barack obama. the first lady, former president george w. bush and hi wife,
laura, as well as former secretary of state hillary clinton. you would expect with all those names, security would be very tight. from what we've seen here, incredibly lax. people going if and out of the stadium without a metal detector or a patdown. the south african government says they're we well prepared for any scenario. they've hosted dig any tars before and the world cup in 2010. john? dy diana? president obama's limb moe caught in traffic. a rare sight of the limo nicknamed the beast. >> abc will follow events in south africa all morning. a complete wrap up on "good morning america." back here at home, the headline this morning is the wintry weather wallop. >> forecasters predicting another double punch as a storm system coming out of the great lakes combines with a southern
low from the south. lit spawn more snow from the mid-atlantic to the northeast. a bitter cold front out of canada is blasting parts of minnesota. the mercury struggled to stretch above 0 yesterday. some areas feeling as cold as 35 below. the icy blast is forcing more flight cancellations. numbers sure to climb today. most out of newark, dallas-ft. worth and dulles. >> nearly 7,000 flight cancellations since saturday. some people stranded at airports for days. surprisingly, hardly any of the air rage we have seen in recent years. most pangs seem to be taking it in stride like this woman in cleveland. >> we were in new york city for a nice weekend. didn't get out. were put on stand by and stand by and stand by. spent the night. finally got out today after
several delayed flights. my friend is still there. >> as for today, you can expect more delays and cancellations for just about every airport east of the mississippi. it's just not going to be a good day if you're trying to fly. >> i'm amazed at people like that woman who still have the smile on their face after all that. i don't think i would be smiling at that stage of the game. >> that happens when you're going to vacation. not going home. >> we're going to take a look at the weather today's outlook. >> accuweather's jim dickey has been tracking the latest snowstorm bearing down on the northeast. >> good morning, john and diana. tracking yet another snowstorm here. moving quickly to the north and east. by 7:00 a.m., the snow arrives in philadelphia. by 1:00 p.m., the snow all the way into boston. by the time the sun sets, is snow is gone. much like we saw on sunday, a band of heavy know will set up.

live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> it is starting to feel like groundhog day on tuesday, 4:28. just me internally, i think it is colder today than yesterday. mike will tell us the truth. >> in some areas it is. in most areas it is not. it is warmer but the east bay valleys are cooler today than year. san francisco is 40 degrees. half moon bay is at 45. we are 29 in san jose and mid-to-upper 20's in the north bay valleys and that is warmer. freezing cold in mountain view and san carlos and oakland, all colder than yesterday. here is what will happen as we look from emeryville back across the bay you can see how calm it is because of high pressure. slightly warmer today, most of us in the low-to-mid 50's with
