sinkhole and now another big problem, water. mysteriously it is gushing into the hole and swallowing up part of an east bay street. good evening. i'm rare rebeale in -- i'm larry beil in for dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. sky 7hd shows what it looked like before the water gushed in. this was on alvarado boulevard. that's where we find cornell bernard live to patch up the problem. cornell? >> well, ama, it is quite a mess out here tonight. no one can say how or why it developed. now there is a new problem, water and a lot of it. crews are trying to pump the water out of the source and cap it. anyway you slice it, it is going to be a long night for the work crews. meantime, the neighbors can't believe there is a lake in the middle of town. the water was everywhere, bubbling up from the middle of

the once busy intersection. creating a lake. >> it is a lot of water. it makes me, oh my god, so much water coming. it is very scary. >> where the water was coming from remains a mystery. it began when a sinkhole about 10 by 12 feet wide developed about 2:00 p.m. on wednesday. no one could say how deep the hole was. the intersection was quickly closed to traffic. hours later the water began filling the sinkhole and over flowing down the street. the crews jackhammered to find the source of the leak and possibly a ruptured water pipe fleer by. they worried more could develop. >> it is crazy. 2 could happen in our house. >> others are just trying to get home around the chaos. >> it is hard to get home and there is a lot of traffic and attention. people are going a little crazy, but not too crazy. it is getting there. >> nearby alvarado middle school expects the pick up and

drop off of students and the alternative transportation is advised. in union city, cornell bernard abc7 news. >> we are learning new details about the teenagers killed last night. the stolen car they were in crashed during a street race. >> these teens are identified as 15-year-oldsaraco and ramos and avila-toledo. alan wang is live in san jose with the latest. alan? >> hi, ama. some of the teens at tonight's vigil spoke openly about drag racing down the street. they say it happens a lot, and we found out that this isn't the first time teens have been killed out here. family members of three teens killed last night were over well ped with grief -- overwhelmed with grief. unable to find out how they were street racing in a stolen are cay. >> when we heard it was a

stolen car we didn't know who was at fault or anything. it is probably teenagers being kids. >> they were killed when this honda they were in struck a light pole and slammed into this tree. another 15-year-old boy was badly injured. >> i don't know. it just happened. >> it happened on east santa clara street one block away from another drag racing fatality last year. just eight months ago another teen died and two others were injured while racing down west hills dale avenue. they say it is happening too often and too close to her daughter. >> she knew all of the kids that were in that accident. the same way she knew all of the kids in this accident. >> it happens every weekend. >> were you in the car when this happened? >> yeah, plenty of times too. >> but they say those days are are over now.

>> it is dangerous. everybody is out there and they stop doing that. it is not fun and games anymore. >> police are still looking for the other car that took off after last night's fatal crash. in san jose, sal 11 wong, abc7 news. >> happening now, check out this lightning strike. this is just a few moments ago. parts of the bay area are seeing showers as well. let's go to sandhya patel who is with live doppler 7hd. >> it has been quick looy changing. we'll talk about what is happening right now. we do have moisture that has increased over the east bay and as i take you in closer here, you will notice there are numerous showers developing in the east bay from concord to walnut creek. i am going to take you down to street level, pleasant hill and oak grove road. as you see the loop here just taking you back about an hour you will notice the moisture is moving northwestward. the moisture will continue to move toward the north bay and

numerous thunderstorms have been developing just southwest of monterey. monterey has already seen lightning strikes. when you look at the lightning count over 600 lightning strikes statewide, 1,483 lightning strikes. why? there is an area of low pressure that is just to the southwest of the bay area. that is drying up the moisture and creating more instability. i'll let you know how long the showers and the possibility of thunder will remain in the forecast coming up. larry sph. >> sandhya, see you in a few minutes. when you get unusual weather where you live share it with us with the # abc7 news. we will use it on the air or >> the valley and boutte fires caused $2 billion in losses. that's according to a first estimate from the insurance industry. hundreds of homes burned and six people were killed. the valley fire in lake, napa and sonoma con tees. -- counties. the boutte fire caused $450 million in destruction. >> and new tonight one of the

country and all of the bay area, this is abc7 news. gee -- >> you saw "nashville" and the character juliette is battling postpartum depression. the actress who portrays her says she too is struggling. it is a challenge many families can relate to here in the bay area. >> she says she feels great now, but felt off after having her first childy elise four years ago. >> i felt very alone and

isolated jie. she recognized she had postpartum depression. she said talking to a therapist and radically changing her diet helped her overcome negative feelings. >> you are supposed to be so happy and instantly in love and depression can be very, very dark. >> she previously worked as an ob/gyn and said she transitioned so he could help women cope with postpartum depression. >> there is a disconnect. the baby is loved and wanted. it just doesn't make sense. >> not even for hollywood stars. just days after tweeting "feeling like i'm finally coming back into my own body" the actress and mom announced she is entering a facility to treat postpartum depression. hayden's on screen character juliette in the drama "nashville" is experiencing similar issues. hayden said she could relate in a recent interview on "live with kelly and michael." >> it is something that needs to be talked about and women need to know they are not alone. >> anytime someone comes

>> yeah, larry and ama, as we look at live doppler 7hd it is being confirmed by our radar and moisture has been moving into the east bay and increasing in the last couple hours. seeing returns from concord and the livermore valley area. street level radar and blackhawk area we are seeing some very light returns. and around point richmond, 580. not all of it is hitting the ground. but keep in mind the showers are moving northwestward. it is not just showers. numerous thunderstorms have been developing and some of these strong thunderstorms are dumping torrential rain. and this moisture is moving northwestward. we are still seeing lightning strikes just south of monterey and that is still in the forecast. a slight possibility of thunderstorms even here in the bay area. half moon bay is reporting one-mile visibility with fog so your morning commute will be on the dicey side. plan accordingly. it could be slow going and not just because of the fog, but

the showers as well. the temperatures are primarily in the 60s and 70s. from our east bay hills camera you will notice the fog in the distance. a few showers and isolated thunder is possible. a cooler pattern with a slight chance of showers on saturday morning. here is a look at the satellite and radar. low-pressure system to the southwest has been moving northward and the instability has been heading for the which is why we are starting to see some activity here in the bay area. a weak front comes in on saturday. the cold front doesn't have a lot of moisture, but it may produce a few showers in the north bay. as you notice going into the morning commute scattered showers at 5:00 a.m. can't rule out an isolated thunderstorm or two. 6:00 p.m. most of the moisture is around the sacramento valley tomorrow evening and then it wends down. as we head toward saturday morning heavy cloud cover at 5:00 a.m.

watch what happens as this cold front comes if. best chance of showers will be in the north bay. very light if we get anything. and then it will be drizzle south of there. 2 should wind down by early afternoon. tomorrow morning watch out for the fog and the slick spots on the roadways. the temperatures are mid50s to the low 60s. hopefully you will sleep better as it is running cooler and highs for your thursday are coming down from today. today was the cooler day, believe it or not and tomorrow the temperatures will continue to drop. you may still see a pop up shower here and there. upper 60 tots low 70s at the coast and mostly cloudy coast side. looking at the accu-weather seven-day forecast a few showers for your thursday and primarily the first half of the day and then we go the cooling trend continuing on friday and a chance for morning showers on saturday. the best chance in the north bay is dry and milder for the second half of the weekend especially bay and inland and carrying over the middle of the next week. it is good to have change. even if it is happening

from an animal shelter has been returned safely. look at lieu we, this black and white two-month-old. a couple looking to adopt a dog took him in the city shelter yesterday afternoon. a good samaritan found lily and returned him last night. the shelter is happy to report that luis is doing well and will soon go up for adoption. >> i think a lot of people will have luis. he looks like fun. >> cute little boy there. >> fun and madness tonight in sports. it is one of the craziest scenes in post baseball history. we had back flips and the benches clearing and shear
