broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> now at 11:00, a power bail winner in california. hoards of people surround the lucky 7-leep store that sold the lottery ticket. part of a $1.5 billion jackpot. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. three tickets matching six numbers were sold in tennessee, florida and california. >> the winning ticket that matched all six numbers was sold in the 7-eleven in chino hills, just east of los angeles. >> a sign of the frenzy caused by the massive jackpot throngs of people swarmed the 7-eleven. they were cheering and taking pictures and trying to take in the historic moment.

>> that store's owner will get $1 million. inside the store as you can see dozens were trying to get close to an instant celebrity, the clerk who sold the winning ticket. >> you know i sell lots. it is crazy going the store line every day. >> your ate one who -- you're the one who probably sold it? >> i think. >> abc7 news reporter lilian kim picks up our coverage now outside one lucky store in santa cruz. >> and several people in the bay area are still getting powerball riches nonetheless, right? >> that's right. four people in and around the bay area matched five of the six numbers including one person who bought a ticket here at the chevron extra mile station on so cal avenue. he or she has yet to come forward, but the prize forgetting all five numbers exept is the powerball -- expect the powerball number is in the six or seven-figure range. it was a busy day.

about $6,000 worth of powerball tech cets was sold in this -- tickets was sold in this store alone. the person who got the five numbers says there are 11 different ways to draw the white balls. it is better than the 1 in 292 million chance of getting all six numbers, but tough odds nonetheless. employees and customers at this chevron extra mile is excited a winner is here in san thank -- santa cruz. >> you could have sold that person the ticket. >> i know. i am thinking about it. >> your thoughts on that? >> good luck for them. god bless them. i hope they spend it well. >> i didn't buy my ticket here. >> do you wish you had some. >> -- you wish you had? >> i wish i had. it means that person is lucky. >> in all 12 people matched five of the six numbers. in addition to santa cruz there were winners in vacaville, santa rosa and cloverdale of the the rest are from southern california.

abc7 news. >> good fun, lilian. thank you very much. in case you haven't seen them, read them and weep. tonight here are the winning powerball numbers. 4, 8, 19, 27, 34 and the powerball number is 10. well, let's turn to el nino. a new storm is approaching the bay area. as we take a live look from the abc7 roof camera it will impact the commute. here is sandhya patel on live doppler 7hd. >> the storms are all lined up 6789 i do want to show you tomorrow's system. here is a look at the system coming in. once again it looks a lot like the last one that came through. but this system here is not expected to bring the wind like we had today we were ranking the storms. all winter long we will continue to do it to help you prepare. and here is where that thursday system is ranking. it is a light storm between thursday afternoon and night.

word of two strong earthquakes, a 6.7 off japan's northern coast and the second was a magnitude six quake in bow live yaw -- bolivia in south america. there are no reports of any injuries. >> also new at 11:00, a man died when he lost control of his car. he smashed into several vehicles and then plowed through a highway guardrail. abc7 news was in south san francisco as they responded to the scene near the oyster -point off-ramp. the fire crews could not reach the elderly driver until the lines were de energized. tonight we are getting a first look at the man who opened fire on board a bart train killing a passenger. abc7 news reporter alan wang shows us the new surveillance images that police want you to see. >> bart police say this man shot and killed a passenger on the train and then walked out of the west oakland bart station. he is about six feet two inches wearing a green trench coat and tan boots.

>> we thought we were going to die. >> passengers took cover while one gave cpr to the victim who is also unknown. he is possibly a latino male between 19 and 25 years old with black hair. the alameda county coroner says he could be a foreign national. he was shot about 8:00 on saturday night. bart police say no officers were assigned to the west oakland station that night. >> when something like this happens it is just not something that normally happens at bart. >> bart board director says police presence is a top concern for bart riders. >> of course we would like to have officers everywhere. but there is a practice tau cal tee to doing that. it is not practical or financially feasible. >> they would not say if there was pictures taken from the train. they say not all of the cameras on the train are actual cameras. some are decoys.

>> despite the lack of resources bart police say violent crime against people has dropped 10% in the last year. in the east bay, alan wang, abc7 news. uc berkeley police want you to be on the lookout for a 300 pf pound bronze statue. this statue of carol kai ebright was stolen overnight. he coached the crew teams to three olympic bold medals in 1928, 1932 and again in 48. the statue is valued at $80,000 and of course has significant sentimental value to the school. the next time you hale a ride on uber, the person who picks you up may have a criminal history jie. they are reks laking the screening for drivers. >> katie is live to explain why. katie? >> reporter: ama and dan, uber says it is an effort to align itself with proposition 47.

it redefines certain felonies as misdemeanors and it gives people a second chance. >> forgery, drug possession. the next uber driver may have been convicted of one of those crimes. >> i think they would need someone to really look into that person. see if they are a good fit for the public. >> everybody deserves a second chance. >> i would like a screening, but i am not sure how i would feel if it is nonviolent. >> some uber users are on the fence and the deputy chief of staff says hoping offenders find work is critically important. >> we have to build better pathways to bring them to the workforce. both to themselves and the community in which they live. >> they said in a statement to do our part we can make sure people have a fair chance to earn a living with uber. uber driverses we spoke with had the same mixed reaction as

describes sand coming in and trapping him in the trench for 13 hours. as his rescue is being described, it is a game of inches. >> he got stuck at 1:00 p.m. and the rescuers freed him at 2:00 a.m. >> it was a void so he fell in and all of the plywood and the bracing material they had in the hole with them just went in and that was what was pining them. >> rescuers were able to get down quickly so buried. know how to pay them back. the last serious documented accident was in 2014. there have been five complaints between october 2014 and august of 2007.

all of which resulted in osha identifying five serious violations and 15 other violations. one of those serious violations, in august of 2013 they failed to ensure a 10-foot deep trench was protected by cave ins by inadequate protective systems. osha says they are investigating this latest accident. abc7 news. >> the republican party is preparing now in the event of a contested gop con veption in which -- convention. there are still a dozen major republican candidates in the race and some have the party divided. this is video from the last convention in 2012. they will outline scenarios with the presidential campaign tomorrow. >> we are getting closer to hollywood's biggest night. the nominations for the 88th annual academy awards will be announced tomorrow. >> leonardo dicaprio and cate

blanchett are being tossed around as nominees. you can watch during the abc7 morning news. >> the oscars themselves are february 28th with actor and comedian chris rock hosting for the second time. you can watch it only on abc7. >> sandhya patel is watching that rain. >> when does it arrive? >> it arrives tomorrow afternoon and then it continues tomorrow night. live doppler 7hd has some fog and it is reducing visibility to just over two miles. your morning commute will include areas of fog. rainfall with today's storm varied. .08 in san jose, but look at san rafael. an inch and a quarter and half an inch in oakland. livermore .19 along with concord. we have more coming. that's the good news. the temperatures right now are in the 40s and 50s.

a live look from our financial district and visibility is good in san francisco. more rain tomorrow afternoon and evening. another storm moves in on friday night into saturday, and we do have a wet and breezy sunday ahead. tomorrow's system is a one on the storm impact scale. it is a light system of the most will see a quarter to half an inch. it is not the strong gusty winds we have seen with the system. here is a look at the storm. noontime on thursday it is well to the north. boy 2:00 p.m. we are seeing light to moderate rain in the north bay. we'll notice slick roads in the east bay, san francisco 4:00 p.m. they will have to wait until the latter part of the evening. the rain spreads in the evening and the evening commute may be slow going. we will see the wet weather continuing at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 p.m. and then we switch over to scattered showers for your morning commute. if you are an early commuter at 4:00 a.m. on friday you will see the areas of slick

roadways. 5:00 a.m., a few showers remaining. and then we get a break with the sun coming through. but another storm will quickly follow on friday night. here is the rainfall total with tomorrow's system of the rain totals have gone up. almost an inch in santa rosa. much less down toward the peninsula. we will call it quarter to a half for most of you. this will mean more snow. no warnings or advisories, but it will bring in 17, 18 inches of snow. we are looking at additional snow with the following system. that one will be warmer. here is the friday system. friday night, 5:00 p.m. the evening gets underway and the coast and the north gets wet. it moves inland and your get away friday could be a slow going one. 10:00 p.m. it is wet. if you have plans in mind keep that in mind. a few showers for your saturday morning and the showers will remain in the north bay around 10:00 on saturday morning. 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, we will be

but you're not gonna like it. you expect the raiders will do a one-year extension to play 2016 in the coliseum. there is talk to the raiders go to san diego if the chargers go to san diego. the chargers think that's a vote the nfl will lose. davis doesn't want to go to st. louis and there would be a block to go to san antonio. unless there is a partner with deep pockets all roads may lead to santa clara. the nfl wanted the raiders to partner with the 49ers on levi stadium to start with, and that may be the last and only option for mark davis. the 49ers interviewed hue jackson. the giants were interested, but he was not waiting around. he wanted the sure thing so he is the new head coach of the cleveland browns. he probably wanted more control over the roster. one espn report indicates mike shanahan may be the front runner for the 4019er job.
