moments ago of his leaving the process of veterans into the presidio cemetery. he has other events today. in oakland he will be at the lazy at 4:00, but first he appeared here. we wanted to ask, why in. >> you decided to come, why? >> i am the chairman of united states senate chairman of veterans affair and the needs of the veterans and families who made the ultimate sacrificed. >> we were surprised and it is great he is taking the time out to honor our men and women in the service and it is important that he participate and with a special holiday especially given he wants to be the leader of our country. it was nice he was representing. >> i shot the interview with my cell phone, it was bit shaky.

>> this is one of the largest memorial day events in the country for tuning on korea and vietnam veterans and the anniversary of the buffalo soldiers. there are 2,500 people expected to be here. 2,500 people who got quite a surprise, a visit from a presidential candidate, bernie sanders. i s covered this event for a long-term but never seen anything quite like this. >> president obama paying tribute to the men and women who have given their lives in service to our country. this morning the president laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown at arlington national cemetery saying our nation is so thankful to the families of the fallen. >> a vision el is underway tonight on the him side in the east bay, the crosses of lafayette have had ten years of keeping count of united states service members killed in action. the memorial started with controversy at the beginning of the iraq war when residents put

a cross for each united states soldier who died. some criticized it calling a political statement. that controversy went away. now, families go there to remember loved ones. tonight the service starts at 7:00. the memorial is just across the street from the lafayette bart station. >> develops are gathering in the heart of san francisco ten door line. st. anthony's dining room is hosting a special lunch for those who served. one of the few places offering a hot meal offering lunch for 3,500 veterans. students at stanford are helping out to serve lunch. >> with sanders today, hillary clinton and bill clinton marched in the memorial parade in new york this morning, they were joined by new york governor cuomo. the clintons have a home there. analysts wonder how she will handle questions of using herrist e-mail as secretary of state for business purposes. that practice was called "inappropriate," last week after

a federal investigation. clinton plans to campaign again in california the week before the june 7 primary. >> donald trump said he will release a final accounting of fundraising for military veterans today. the presumptive nominee spent sunday speaking to a motorcycle rally in front lincoln memorial in washington under pressure to reveal the numbers after reports of fundraiser he held did not raise as much money as he claimed. >> a win tonight is a must for warriors in they want to secure their spot in the championship series. elissa is at arena with the excitement for game seven. >> check this out, the giant scoreboard they have lowered to the center of the court tightening crews and making sure that everything works before the game tonight. they have been testing out the cameras behind the back board, and they will get some pretty exciting shots and maybe some good dumpings later on tonight. this place will be packed with more than 19,000 screaming fans

going to the sharks foundation. the first 8,000 fans receive a rally towel. wayne freidman is in pittsburgh with reports on abc7 starting at 4:00. >> did you feel it? people in the east bay received a small just a moment from a minor earthquake this morning. u.s. geological survey said the 2.earthquake struck at 9:30 a.m. with no damage reported. the center was located two miles northeast of the city. >> the light rail trains are, again running through a santa clara intersection the site of a deadly accident yesterday. a woman died in the sunday afternoon crash. that is east of levi stadium. the driver of the truck and a passenger were taken to the hospital. the truck blocked the light rail track for hours after the incident. >> a suspected drunk driver hit a san mateo county sheriff patrol car inned withed would city, the driver in a black sedan backed into a car that had two people in custody in the pack seat. the driver was given a field

>> the abc7 news app on the go on your schedule on one screen. all the weather, traffic, and news that lives where you live. >> a stretch of newport beach in southern california remains closed after a beachgoer is believed to have been attacked by a shark yesterday. the attack happened in the waters off the state beach in the city of newport beach. lifeguards pull the william out pleading heavy from bite wounds. lifeguards and police evacuated the waters and closed down three miles of the coastline. >> animal rights activist hold a vigil at the cincinnati ask after a gorilla was shot and killed in his own exhibit over the weekend. the violent end came after a young boy slipped into the enclosure. today a debate over what was the right thing to do. >> this video shows ten minutes of pure terror at the cincinnati

zoo. all the child has fallen into the gorilla change. >> a boy was trapped held in the clips of a 400 pound gorilla and dragged through the water. the child's mother reassured him from above. >> mommy loves you. it came when a zoo worker shot and killed the 17 year old endangered silver back gorilla while the animal was holding the boy. >> they made the right choice because they saved the little boy's life. >> a anger erupted questioning why the gorilla was killed rather than tranquilized. animal expert said the zoo worker made the right decision as a tranquilizer would end up agitating the gorilla and put the child's life at risk. >> they are magnificent feature but there is no doubt in my mind the child would not be here in they made the decision at the cincinnati zoo. >> the boy was rushed to the hospital and the family said he has been released survive the insurance accident with only a

>> three southern california women are called heroes for stepping in to save a stranger. the three friends were enjoying a night out when they notice add man and a woman at a near table. the woman used the restroom the man took out a black vial and put something in the drink. they took action. one followed the woman support bathroom. >> it wars weird to, like, hi, i know is weird but...we saw the guy you are with put something in your drink. >> what did she say? >> he is one of my best friend. >> the manager said security footage confirmed their suspicion so the restaurant called police. officers arrested michael schu and he is held on $1 million bail. >> rescuers are searching for a seven-year-old boy abandoned in a row mate by his parents as a form of punishment. they said he disappeared collecting wild verge talls

weekend. you can see the clouds along the coast and once in a while though break open for sunshine. and even in it is not sunny where you are going you know with the thin cloud deck the sun is going to go right through it and burn you. 55 at half moon bay. we have low-to-mid 60 from san francisco, oakland, hayward and san mateo and upper 60s in hayward. a lot of 80s heading interest inland east bay. we are going to have money 80s through the south bay, los gatos could reach 90, and santa cruz afternoon sunshine and 70 and cloudy all day, and 62, and warmer in pacifica at 67, and those the extremes at the coast. we will have, say, upper 70s to mid-80s on the peninsula and right around the upper 60s in san francisco, and low-to-mid 70s around south san francisco and sausalito and in the north bay valley, for any length of type, get ready for 80s, 86 degrees there and along the east bay and all the bay area, this is abc7 shore, quite a spread. inland temperatures in the upper 80s like men and pleasanton, to 95 in antioch.

if you are boat or sailing, north of the bay bridge we have a small craft advisory and it will be choppy. tree pollen, glass pollen but the big story is the u.v. index is, the must addition part of being outside, and, still, great in santa cruz, but afternoon sunshine, and temperatures at the coast are in the secretary through 5:00, and we will hit 80s to nearly 90. around 7:00, hook at that, 50s at coast, and 76 inland. and comfortable by 9:00 mid-50s. to mid-60s. >> 68 at 6:00, drive down to 62 and winner takes all, and next door, they have a baseball game, and the twins and the a's 65 dropping to vine from 7:00 to 10:00. notice, the coast will have mid-60s, our warmest day is in the soviets on friday. our warmest day around the bay is in the mid-80's. by friday. we will have triple digits
