abc7 news is live with breaking news. >> the breaking news is in oakland where fire tore through a truck stop interstate 880. smoke filled the skies at about 9:30 tonight. this is the sf oakland truck stop that has a gas station, mechanics garage and scales. it has been in the bay area since 1987 according to its website. no word on where the fire started or what caused it. we know no one was hurt. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm eric thomas in for dan ashley. >> and i'm ama daetz. a husband and wife duo supposed to be looking after an elderly woman. but instead they covered her with a pillow and tied her up and ransacked her home. >> sheriff deputies arrested zerana and antonio yesterday.
tonight the elderly woman they are accused of tieing up and robbing is describing the moments of terror inside her home. >> katie is live in redwood city with the new details. they are facing felony charges and i talked with the women they are accused of abusing. >> it is frightening when you know you are almost going to die. she wants to share her story. it was sunday after midnight and she was sound asleep in her home . >> somebody stuck a pillow over my face and another person tied my hands. >> they demanded money and then ransacked the house after she said there was no money. after an hour the house was quiet and she assumed they were gone. >> they tied me up with the pillowcase and i squeezed may u my way through and called
9-1-1. >> she suspected it her caretakers. she sort of recognized their muffled voices and they knew she had recently come into some money. sheriff detectives arrested them on thursday. >> the investigators during the course of the days were able to recover some evidence. that just helped solidify that the suspects were, aed were the ones involved. >> the robbers didn't find any cash, but they did take other items. >> i want them to stay in jail for life. i hate to have somebody else that is disabled and old being treated like that. >> she said trusting them is a mistake and she tells them to get a background check on a caregiver. the sheriff's office remains the same. abc7 news. >> new at 11:00, a convicted sex offender is in trouble. this time he is accused of robbing two south bay chevron stations.
reece stanley matches the description in both incidents. he ran behind the counter at the chevron on lincoln avenue. the same thing happened on august 9th in campbell. and milpitas police are warning about a scam. a woman received a phone call in which a hysterical female screamed mom, please help me. they demanded she wire mexico without hanging up or her daughter would die. they wired a small amount of money and she later found out her daughter was safe. gad news from southern calf -- good knew from southern california where the blue cut fire is now 40% contained. new dramatic time lapse video that perez shared with us shows the fire on tuesday the night after it started. the fiery mains at 37,000 acres and the flames have destroyed 96 homes and several
evacuations were lifted today. evacuations were also lifted for all of lower lake today in lake county. she shared this picture from the clayton fire at a park in town town lower lake. the fire is 75% contained and holding at 4,000 acres. 189 homes are burned as well as a hundred other businesses and structures. police arrested a suspected it arsonist accused of the fire. if you are having any trouble breathing it could be because smoke from the lake county fire and the fire in monterey county is making it into the bay area. you can see the orange haze from the fire in this sunset time lapse cap -- captured. contra costa fire warned people to only call 9-1-1 when you see flames with smoke. with the smell of smoke, will it stick around for the weekend? >> here is spencer christian and live doppler 7hd. spencer? >> the smoke is going to continue to flow in our direction for the weekend, but
the good news is it will continue to disperse and we will see cleaner air into sunday and monday. shear a look at live doppler 7hd. the fires are continuing to burn and you can see the satellite imagery takes us to 7:30. although the fires are well to the south, a lot of the smoke has been moving into the bay area. we have stronger breezes now. they are calming down a bit, but we have gusts up to 30 miles an hour at fairfield and we get stronger breezes that will mix out that smoke and of course greater containment of the fire will help. fog is surging across the bay and the breezes will kick in and the air will become cleaner and cleaner by sunday and certainly by monday we expect more moderate air quality. i'll give uh complete look at the forecast. let's take one more look at the smoky sunset. this picture was sent by jc in woodland with the # abc7 now.
wow. check out that orange sky. amazing. thank you for that. use abc7 now on social media and you may see your photo on abc7 news. the centers for disease control is expanding its unprecedented travel warning to pregnant women. the cdc is vigz them and their part -- is advising them and their partners not to travel to miami-dade beach. this after a new case of zika virus was discovered at the popular tourist destination. katie has that developing story. >> reporter: ama and eric, two of the five cases are miami beach residents. we are no longer talking about people who have traveled internationally and bringing it back to the u.s. the mosquitoes that carry the virus are in florida and local travelers are concerned about it. miami beach is bustling with tourists and buzzing with zika virus carrying mosquitoes.
>> we are requesting additional support from the cdc. >> a second outbreak of local zika cases in miami beach spurred the new centers for disease control travel warning. pregnant women should avoid the area and perhaps all of miami-dade county. the focus is on a 1.5 square mile area wherein februaryed it mosquitoes are spreading the virus. >> well, i am not planning on getting pregnant, but it is scary. >> a pregnant woman is infected. >> my friends canceled the trip to miami. >> he is flying to miami and he is not concerned, but his wife is. >> my wife is pregnant and she is a little paranoid about the zika. >> the cdc warning includes
partners of pregnant women as the virus can be sexually transmitted. abc7 news. for the first time today we heard from the family of a woman hit by a tree limb who will likely never walk again. 36-year-old schway was watching her when the 100-pound branch fell. she has undergone multiple surgeries and she is in a lot of pain and recovery will be difficult. >> they showed me the picture of the backbone and it is split in half. they have to go to a rehab for a long, longtime. >> the medical bills are piling up and the family is receiving help from several non-profits. there is new finger-pointing in the olympic summer game scandal involving four u.s. swimmers. in an on-line apology he said his teammate, ryan lochte, is the one who pulled a sign off the gas station bathroom in rio after a night of drinking

walnut creek, burlingame campbell and all of the bay area this is abc7 news. >> new at 11:00, a turkish media outlet is making an outlashdish claim about who is behind the coup in turkey last month. an article says the cia assigned convicted murderer scott peterson to carry out assassinations in turkey. it also claims he attended a top secret meeting on an island in istanbul. peterson is on death row at quintin for the 2002 murder of his wife and unborn son. an expert called the report ridiculous.
polls suggest californians strongly support legalized marijuana. the uc berkeley institute of governmental studies asked about two props on the ballot. 82% of those polled favored prop 63. it will require background checks to buy ammo and keep felons and domestic abusers from buying guns. they would legalize taxed marijuana use. mark zuckerburg is making good on a promise to give back. the facebook ceo sold $95 million in facebook stock. it is a small portion of what he owns. it is part of the promise to give away or spend wealth on learning, curing disease, connecting with people and building strong communities. >> for the next couple days san francisco will be the center of the pokemon universe. >> i thought we already were. 1700 players from around the world are competing in the

napa 59. petaluma 57. 63 in fairfield. one more live view and a lovely view from the south beach camera. looking along the bay bridge and these are our forecast features. we will see morning clouds and patchy fog. the air quality slowly improves. that's good news. we will have a gradual cooling trend on monday. here is a look at our overnight lows. lots of clouds and fog will push across the bay. they will be on the mild side. midto upper 50s and may see low 50s in the inland north bay valleys and along the coast. it shows the surge of low clouds and fog. 7:00 tomorrow morning and reduced visibility. maybe they won't be a big problem. in the south bay look for highs in the upper 70s to about 81 at san jose. mainly midto upper 70s on the peninsula.
look for highs in the mid60s from downtown and san francisco down to south san francisco and north bay highs will be in the upper 70s. east bay shoreline will see low to mid70s and in the inland east bay we will have the warmest region in the bay area with highs in the i midto upper 80s. here is a look at the seven-day forecast. for the next few days look for highs near 90 inland. it will be a bit haze yes, sir tonight as the air gets cleaner and the skies get bluer. the temperatures will drop off to below average level, but they will gradually increase to midweek and then by wednesday it will warmer inland with highs in the low 90s. mid70s around the bay. upper 50s on the coast. and then another two-day cool down. it will be cool enough in some spots that it will feel almost fall-like.

tourists were treated to a stunning performance by an orca. the orca tossed a turtle into the air, you can see it right there. the video provided by quesar expedition. it happened in an orca eating area. they don't normally eat turtles, but i think she was just playing. giants' second half fade is behind the dodgers, but hunter pence helped them regain the lead in the west.
