((kirsten joyce)) and i'm kirsten joyce. this morning, the leaders of the armed group occupying a federal wildlife refuge in oregon... are under arrest. ((brian loftus)) the f-b-i and oregon state police stopped members of the group on a highway... before shots were fired. don champion has the latest. five of the oregon militants were arrested during a traffic stop down this road tuesday afternoon. the fbi says during the stop- a militia member was shot and killed. among the arrested- militia leaders ammon and ryan bundy. their arrests, mark the end of a 3-week occupation of a national wildlife refuge in the town of burns, oregon. "so no chris, huh?" in recent days, ammon bundy had been trying to negotiate with the fbi.

wildlife refuge earlier this month as part of a long- running dispute over public lands. early on bundy said he and his followers were in it for the long run. (ammon bundy/militia leader) "when government steps outside its bounds that the people have given it, that it is the duty of the people to put that government back in its place" before the arrests, tensions had been boiling over among locals fed up with the occupation especially since the group took arms. the state's governor had also been calling for the fbi to intervene. (gov. kate brown/d-oregon) "the spectacle of lawlessness must end" three other militia members were arrested at two other locations. don champion, cbs news. ((brian loftus)) the f-b-i has not identified the militia member who was killed. the people who were arrested will all face at least one felony charge. the militia standoff began as a protest against the federal government...

charged with arson on public lands back to prison. /// ((kirsten joyce)) > one of cliven bundy's son's was shot in the arm during the standoff... but he's expected to survive. patranya bhoolsuwan spoke with cliven bundy on the phone last night... saying ammon called his family from the back of a police car: ((cliven bundy/cattle rancher: "he says he had his hands in the air told him he wasn't armed and they went ahead and shot him i don't know how many times but they shot him as far as i know he's dead.")) ((kirsten joyce)) bundy says his sons were on a mission to help and educate other ranchers... and have no intention of creating violence. cliven bundy says the man who was killed... lavoy finicum... was a rancher in arizona who had a wife and children. his death shows that the government has gone too far: ((cliven bundy/cattle rancher: "the federal government is trying to prove a point here that they have unlimited power that they have authority over that land that's what they are trying to do." )) ((kirsten joyce)) the f-b-i says the leaders face federal felony charges of conspiracy... to impede officers of the u-s from discharging their official

police are currently looking for a shooter... after two people were killed, and three others injured. it happened overnight at a homeless camp. police believe the shooting may have been targeted... and do not believe other homeless people at this time are at risk. the mayor of seattle says the city needs to come together... and try to solve this crisis: (( mayor ed murray/seattle) "this is a tragedy. it involves homeless people and the causes of homelessness are complex. there is no simple answer. and this is not the time to go back into our individual camps and start firing at each other." )) ((kirsten joyce)) the mayor also declared a state of emergency on the city's homelessness crisis. the camp was going to be cleaned up later today... and offer services to homeless. /// ((brian loftus)) > a final walk is scheduled this morning... before the 6th street bridge in downtown los angeles begins demolition. overnight, about 100 people gathered on the iconic bridge. dozens of police officers were called to help disperse the large crowd... and if protests were to start.

from the incident. a witness says people will miss the bridge. according to the l-a times... the new 6th street bridge will open in 2019... and will have the same exact design as the old one. it's still unclear when the new construction will start. /// ((brian loftus)) ((kirsten joyce))

are investigating another officer involved shooting. a car chase ended with a metro officer shooting a suspect... in the northeast valley. ((kirsten joyce)) it happened near pecos and bonanaza. a witness told us he saw a car speeding down the street... before it crashed- as vanessa murphy reports... police say the car was stolen... a gun. ((stephanie tamez/lives in neighborhood: i could see everything from the window of my room.)) ((vanessa murphy)) stephanie tamez says she and her mother knew something was wrong when they heard police arrive in their northeast valley neighborhood. ((stephanie: she told me you know stephanie, close all the doors, lock it, and lock everything, shut the blinds.)) ((vanessa murphy)) what unfolded: metro police say one of their officers shot a suspect. ((captain matt mccarthy/metro police: i'm here to talk to you about an officer involved shooting we had )) ((vanessa murphy)) captain matt mccarthy tells us the trouble started tuesday afternoon with a call about a stolen car.... he says an officer spotted it speeding at washington and marion....tried to stop it....the driver then crashed at bonanza and pecos...and ran away -- a gun in hand -- toward this residential area where stephanie lives..

police: our air unit saw that that occupant had a firearm in his hand.)) ((vanessa murphy)) he says an officer in an unmarked car spotted the suspect who then pointed the gun at him.... the officer opened fire. ((tamez: i just saw some big guy getting put into an ambulance.)) stephanie says she also saw a weapon on the ground.... ((tamez: i went outside my house and you could see the gun and everything on the floor and his clothes and everything.)) ((kirsten joyce)) police say minor injuries... and released from the hospital. he's currently behind bars this morning... and booked on felony charges. no officer was injured. /// ((brian loftus)) > this is the second officer involved shooting in just five days. yesterday, metro held a press conference... giving us more information on friday night's incident outside the bellagio. police arrested 20-year-old kahleal black... after they say he was waiving a gun around. later this morning, he'll make his first court appearance. we learned his gun was not loaded... but there were at least several occasions where police say... he pointed the gun at people and

the officer who opened fire at black was about 10-yards away from him. undersheriff kevin mcmahill says this shooting, like every incident where a gun is discharged... is being investigated: ((kevin mcmahill/metro undersheriff: "we're accountable for every round that we fire, from an officer's weapon, and frankly, in this event, we were lucky that the situation did not end up in a very much worse scenario." )) ((brian loftus)) the officer who opened fire is 45-year-old george smith... a 10-year metro veteran. he's on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues... which is standard procedure. we're told this is the first involved in a shooting. police also say black was escorted off harrah's property... after he quit his job friday evening. /// ((brian loftus)) > everyone has their favorite go-to girl scout cookie... but a local woman shows everyone how the girl scout organization goes way beyond that: (( "i'm a girlscout, it's not what i do. joyce)) how she's inspiring other women to reach their biggest goals... in this week's acts of kindness. ///

day... making sure our communities stay safe. but they sometimes need to be protected, too. so, the oklahoma city police took on an unlikely volunteer for the job. they took in this goose to help them out. their police station used to have a bad skunk problem... but haven't noticed anything since they got him. officers say it likes to greet them, patrol the lots... and also eat donuts. right now, they're trying to come up with a name for him...

more. it lays a solid foundation for young women to figure out their passion, serve their community... and be a part of something bigger than themselves. vanette christensen/acts of kindness recipient : "all of the different levels are represented here." ((kirsten joyce)) vanette christensen takes great pride in her involvement with the girl scouts of southern nevada. .. vanette christensen/acts of kindness recipient " i'm a girlscout, it's not what i do. it's who i am. " ((kirsten joyce)) as the historian and archivist... her volunteer job is to preserve the artifacts that have been donated, or gifted... and use them to educate young girls about the history, and mission. vanette christensen/acts of kindness recipient " this one here is from 1919.". ((kirsten joyce)) this is the very first girl scout uniform.. girls could buy them, or sew them.. vanette christensen/acts of kindness recipient " the sleeves, hand stitched on" ((kirsten joyce)) and the official buttons could be rented from the organizatoin... for 15 cents. ((kirsten joyce)) vanette certainly knows the history.. she was a girl scout growing up - it was an amazing balance, and contrast to what she eventually chose as a career.. she also attributes what she did as a career... serving nearly three decades in law enforcement....

but they may soon be at a stand-still on innovation. in their financial report, iphone sales went up... but starting to slow down. apple says they believe sales will likely drop in their current quarter... for the first time in 13-years. an analyst says it's clear that the weakening demand in the iphone... will impact the company in the coming years. /// ((brian loftus)) > "first friday" is gearing up for its return to downtown las vegas. the free event will kick off again on february 5th... with the theme "back to the future". there's going to be an art walk, kid zone, and dance lessons... along with dozens of food trucks.
