windy but once the sun came out so did the folks looking to fly through the fresh new powder. lee canyon was a hot spot for hundreds of snowboarders and skiers. sunday's storm brought at least 18 inches of snow to this area - which is up from last year. they are up 96 inches, compared that to last year where the area only got 72 inches. now earlier this morning.. there was a travel restriction - but it was lifted around noon.

arraigned earlier today. >police discovered 13 year old nicole lovell's (luv-ulls) body on the side of a north carolina road. authorities believe virginia tech freshman david eisenhauer abducted and murdered the girl. another student..19-year- old natalie keepers has been charged with helping eisenhauer get rid of lovell's body. (mike albert/blacksburg pd) "eisenhauer and nicole were acquainted prior to her disappearance. eisenhauer used this relationship to his advantage, to abduct and then kill her." lovell vanished last wednesday. her family believes she climbed out of her bedroom window after blocking the door with a dresser. a missing child poster noted that she required daily medication following a liver transplant. friday, her father issued a desperate plea for his daughter's return. (david lovell) (from facebook) "if you're out there. you can come to me. i'm not mad at you. i'm worried about you." lovell's facebook page shows she was a member of at least one teen dating group. but it's unclear whether she met eisenhauer online. even killing one driver on sunday when a tree was blown over and toppled onto her car. (("i've been here fifteen years and never seen the wind blow this hard." )) ((dave courvoisier)) high winds uprooted an eight-foot wide oak tree in san diego... killing a woman driving this honda. three other cars were also damaged. trees fell all across southern california because the ground is soaked by recent storms and winds were howling at up to 70-miles per hour. ((denise valdez)) the winds also downed power lines leading to wide-spread outages. late sunday 41-thousand people still had no power. this scaffolding was reduced to a pile of twisted metal. a worker was trying to reduce the wind resistance when it collapsed. thankfully he wasn't hurt. (( )) demetria obilor: > this month, the county expects to start a big flood control/widening project on rainbow boulevard. if you live in the southwest part of town, listen up. this is a 420-day project that will begin with the widening of rainbow boulevard to three lanes (each direction) between sunset and russell road.

they helped welcome the new beer garden at paris las vegas. the trot down the strip lead from the entryway of the new beer park right to the ceremony of the first keg being tapped. ((dave courvoisier)) the mosquito-borne virus is suspected of causing severe birth defects in thousands of babies. cbs news medical correspondent dr. jon lapook is in brazil with the latest. >the world health organization is declaring the zika outbreak a global health emergency. the mosquioto borne virus is spreading rapidly through latin america and the caribbean.. and is linked to a serious birth defect called microcephaly. (( doctor margaret chan/director- general world health organization)) the clusters of microcephaly and other neurological complications constitute an extraordinary event and a public health threat to other parts of the world. microcephaly causes babies to be born with abnormally small heads. so far in brazil, more than 41-hundred suspected cases are reported. doctor margaret chan says while the link is still not scientifically proven, there seems to be a strong relationship.
