((sot - donald trump/(r) presidential candidate 3:04 "we will be celebrating for a long time tonight, have a good time. have a good time. you know, we weren't expected a few months ago to win this one, you know that right? we weren't. of course if you listen to the pundits, we weren't expected to win too much and now we're winning, winning, winning, the country, and soon the country is going to start winning winning winning. 3:32)) ((vo)) now. trump and the other candidates are moving on to the super tuesday states to campaign. in las vegas. i'm patrick walker reporting. brian loftus > now to the runner-ups... marco rubio and ted cruz. kirsten joyce it was a hard fought battle between both of them... but the florida senator pulled off the number two spot in nevada. 8 news now reporter michael stevens is live in the newsroom. michael, how close was it? brian, kirsten... the second place spot was up for grabs the whole night...
took silver. yesterday... took silver. yesterday... when we spoke with the presidential candidate in person... he said his focus was not on trump... but collecting delegates here in the state: ((marco rubio // (r) presidential candidate: at this stage it's still about picking up delagates even the winners of these states dont pick up every delegate. in iowa we came in third placeand got as many delagates as second place -- only one delegate less than first place so this is about picking up delegates in the states that award them proportionately as nevada does once you get to the winner take all states that begin march 15th thats when you have to win those states and we will be by then. )) ((michael stevens)) yesterday... both rubio and ted cruz scored 5-apiece. still much lower than trump's 12. marco rubio skipped town after his early morning rally at the silverton casino. he was off to the midwest. meanwhile, ted cruz did all he can to sway voters. he ended his night in las vegas and spoke to his supporters shortly after trump took the top spot: ((sen. ted cruz // (r) presidential candidate: "the role of the first four primaries is to narrow the field. and we have seen the first four
now, at this point, we've had four primaries. history teaches us that nobody has ever won the nomination without winning one of the first three primaries and there are only two people who have won one of the first three primaries -- (cheers) donald trump and us. (cheers)")) ((michael stevens)) cruz spent far more on the caucuses in nevada than the winner. he spent about 790-thousand dollars ... compared to trump's 490- thousand. rubio outspent them both -- he shelled out about 920- thousand dollars in the state. meanwhile... ben carson told his supporters... he's not planning on ending his presidential bid anytime soon... even after finishing 4th. and john kasich who spent yesterday in georgia fell into 5th place. ((brian loftus)) michael...
importance of delegates... where do the candidates stand today? ((michael stevens)) overall, trump has 79 delegates, cruz has 16 and rubio has 15. john kasich has five delegates and ben carson has three. it takes 1,237 delegates to win the republican nomination for president. ((brian loftus)) > while the republicans had their attention focused here... the democrats were speaking at a town hall in south carolina. bernie sanders and hillary clinton sat down last night. sanders is taking an increasingly tough line against clinton. reiterating his call for clinton to release transcripts of paid speeches that she made to wall street banks... she says she will...if her opponents do: ((bernie sanders/(d) presidential candidate): "i"m happy to release all my paid speeches to wall street.
