we spoke to superintendent pat skorkowsky ahead of today's meeting and he says he wants to focus on a couple of issues... not only highlighting last year's achievements but also focusing on improvements the district can make, moving forward. the class of 20-15 had a 72- percent graduation rate---which is low compared to national numbers... but the superintendent says that can improve. one of the biggest challenges the school district has faced in the past year has been dealing with hundreds of teacher vacancies... after negotiations with the clark county education association... the district came to an agreement to give educators a raise. aiming to entice more educators to work for the district. killing a virginia policewoman patrol... is expected to be arraigned in court today. (("one officer down. i don't know where the suspect is." )) ((brian loftus)) investigators say ronald hamilton allegedly shot officers on saturday while responding to a domestic violence call about 30 minutes outside washington dc. police say he killed his wife... along with 28- year- old officer ashley guindon .. two other officers were injured. a memorial was held last night for officer guindon: move on in honor ashley it would be a discredit to her to loftus)) guindon was a 6- year marine corp reservist and had just been sworn in on friday. the department had posted this photo to their twitter page welcoming her and another

dramatic hostage rescue in afghanistan. in 2012, navy senior chief edward byers junior helped rescue a u-s doctor kidnapped by the taliban. the first seal that entered the hostage room was killed... byers managed to rescue the hostage and jumped on him to shield him from the gunfire. only five navy seal's have received the medal of honor... and byers will become the first living navy seal... to be awarded since 1998. demetria obilor sid says, "recently, clark county commissioners voted to close homestretch drive between sandstone bluffs drive and hualapai way for the benefit of

this road is a primary access to many homes. this was done without public input. this looks like a good old boy violation of public law." clark county commissioners voted to close down homestretch drive earlier this year, primarily due to a safety conflict presented by the faith lutheran schools. homestretch drive between sandstone bluffs and hualapai cut right through the school's campus to the north and south of the route, which school officials believed posed a threat to student safety. faith lutheran wanted students to have a better connection to both sides of its property. emergency vehicles are still permitted along the stretch, but regular traffic is not. i reached out to clark county to find out if any meetings were held regarding the proposed closure, and i found out there were several.one on june 10, august 26, december 10 and january 7. the zoning meeting was held on january 20, where a handful of residents from the surrounding neighborhoods spoke out it's clear that many nearby homeowners were made aware of this situation, but it's also

((brian loftus)) > police are trying to determine if a deadly shooting was the result of road rage. it happened early sunday morning near decatur and alta. officers said when they arrived, they found two victims inside a car riddled with bullets. scene. a man was rushed to umc with at expected to survive. we spoke with raymond heflan who place. erry swensk)) > it's a day that only comes once every four years! it's february 29th... leap day! we realign our clocks and calendars with the universe.. and earth's orbit around the sun. and for those who have birthday's on this day... they technically age a little slower than others. like 84-year-old paul knebels from pennsylvania. his family held a surprise birthday for him over the weekend.. he technically turns 21 today.. and his friends and family are really excited: ((steve knebels: i'd say for approximately the last 5-10 years, we've been counting down his 21st birthday when he's finally legal. )) ((sherry swensk)) and as he leaps into another year, he fondly remembers some of the milestones before this one.
