an unsettling an unsettling mystery out of new jersy police say someone booby-trapped a popular hiking trail. they discovered broken bottles, wooden planks with nails sticking out of them...and barbed wire. police are asking visitors to be careful if they plan on going through the 11 miles of trails in high mountain park. this has everyone asking 'who would do this?' alvaranga went to a self defense class to find out ways that you can protect yourself. karina vetrano, only 30 years old ... she went missing tuesday while jogging. her body, found face down in the ground, discovered by her father. "i hope they just catch the animal that did it, that's all i care about right now." vetrano's untimely death -- a harsh reminder of how important it is to always be aware of what and who is around you. "while jogging, going to places that are not well lit, keep yourself in a position where it'si you." delatorre teaches self defense classes at united studios. helping others develop a fighter's reflex. "if you see the person make eye contact first definitly and majority of time have that natural feeling when someone they don't trust or someone is going to do someone." staying alert, telling someone where you are, even running with a friend ... can be the difference between life ..

trayvon martin. according to police, zimmerman was boasting to a group of diners in a restaurant about the event when a large white man asked "you're bragging about that?" and then took a swing at zimmerman. zimmerman then called the cops he told the orlando sentinel the assailant was drunk and thought zimmerman was actually a different man accused of shooting at zimmerman in a road rage case from last year. so, essentially the suspect supported zimmerman and punched him in his confusion./// ((patrick walker)) new orleans is cleanng this morning after a brief but powerful storm hit the city's 7th ward. driving rains, high winds and a funnel cloud pummeled new orleans thursday afternoon. at least four buildings believed to be abandoned collapsed. many cars were also damaged during the storm. two minor injuries were reported. officials sent rescue crews with search dogs out to comb through the wreckage. .................. looking out this morning -- a nice dry start with a few clouds and a couple isolated pockets of showers mainly in ne clark county and areas south of the 215. our best threat for storms today being early before 10am. ................. temperatures dramatically cooler yesterday in the mid 80s -- the last time we had temps. that cool was mid to late may. this morning low 80s to start with a few 70s in our southern neighborhoods. highs today across the region a bit wrmer then yesterday -- but still likely remaining below seasonal average in te very low 100s. .................... our flash flood watch only lingering for portions of lincoln and nw arizona until 5am this morning. ..................... satellite/radar showed this mesoscale convective vortez over southern nevada that wrecked havoc on our temps.

prevented more storms from developing yesterday afternoon. today we could still see the threat for storms -- mainly in higher elevation. if skies can clear a bit more look for possible convection over higher terrain in lincoln and mohave counties -- although much lower confidence in models today. ................... that extended forecast does show a warmup on the way... low 100s today with hotter temps returning to near normal and 105 degrees by monday. let's take a look at the roads with demetria this weekend, the northbound i-15 ramps to northbound 95/mlk and the grand central ramp to northbound i-15 will close from saturday night to sunday morning. sunday night, the southbound 95 exit to rancho will close down through mid-september.

attention for his green gucci jacket he wore at a premier of the movie. according to vanity fair. he was seen smiling at a fashion show when he first saw the jacket. twitter users compared his face as one of pure joy, as if he found willy wonka's golden ticket or the kid on blank check. leto later spoiled everyone's fun by saying he was just joking with a friend when he made the face./// ((patrick walker)) a comet, traveling more than one-million- miles-per-hour plunged toward the sun this week. as that white circle in the middle represents the disk of the sun... you can see the comet enter from the right side of the screen and disappear. despite the way the video looks... this comet didn't fall into the sun. as it went around it -- it was vaporized by the sun's heat. the comet part of a group of comets with related orbits that broke off of a huge comet several centuries ago.
