officially start today. our olympic correspondent andrew marden has a preview.. of what you can expect for the big ceremony. good morning everyone, andrew marden here in rio de janeiro, brazil. it seems like we've been talking about the opening ceremony forever. well the day is finally here. later today the 31st olympic games officially get underway...despite the fact there have already been a couple of days of competition. if this year's games are anything like the previous two, then it will likely be the most-watched t-v event in u-s history. 215 million people watched in 2008...beijing later, 2012 in london. as for what tonight...three billion people are expected to watch. you'll see dancers and costumes and fireworks. you'll see athletes from more than 200 nations. and for the u-s, you'll see michael phelps as the flag bearer. he's the most decorated olympian of all time with 22 medals, 18 of them gold.

((sherry swensk)) back to you./// ((kirsten joyce)) health officials in santa barbara, california.. are taking extra precautions after seeing a rash of zika cases 22 women in the state have been infected. the public health department teamed up wi to find and kill mosquito larva. they do that by testing ponds for the two species of mosquito.. known to carry zika. if they find any, they throw small protein beads into the water that kill those mosquitos. so far, two babies have been born with birth defects.. from mothers who were infected by zika. /// ((patrick walker)) a west virginia man took his chances at the casino... but luck wasn't on his side. police say the man ran out of money at a black jack table... so his only option to get more cash.. was to rob a bank. police later got a tip and went

3800 block of s. maryland pkwy. - the suspect fired his weapon during the robbery and took off in a dark colored tahoe. - officers caught up with the suv and the suspect shot at officers hitting the squad car once. - metro's air unit followed the suspects car to just outside the wynn. the suspect crashed his car arrested in the wynn encore's valet. - police say the man was unarmed when he was arrested. - he faces charges including armed robbery with a deadly weapon, attempted murder on a police officer and other charges. - no one was injured. - detectives are following up.
