pedestrian crash happened here near eastern and sahara. police say a woman was walking in a marked crosswalk last night... and was hit. the woman was taken to sunrise hospital where she later died. police are urging drivers to slow down and be aware of their surroundings: ((sgt. richard strader // metro police: "as a driver on the roadway, even though you're doing what you're supposed to do, pay attention en off the accelerator and be prepared for pedestrians, and the weather is nice out, so people are going to be out right now.")) ((michael stevens)) >> police say speed was not a factor in this crash... and the driver stayed on scene. but that wasn't the case just a few hours before... just east of here... where a man was hit while crossing the street near sahara and burnham. police say the driver took-off and came back an hour later... he told police he left because he was scared. now... he faces a felony hit-and-run

and a 60-year-old man was killed crossing boulder highway near nellis... against a "don't walk" signal. the man died at the scene. police say there's been 65-traffic related fatalities in metro's jurisdiction this year. brian, michelle? ((michael stevens)) >> michelle, police really say... it's not up to them... there's actually very little they can do to prevent these tragedies from happening. instead... they're pleading with the public to be a little more vigilant while on the roads.

demetria, how are the roads? the left shoulder is blocked on southbound i-15 and charleston after a crash. expect delays. looks like crews are cleaning up a mess that was made earlier this morning on southbound 95 and eastern. there was a pretty nasty rollover that happened around four am.

to move forward with the regulations.. the latest draft is 24 pages long, front and back. last night, nearly ever trustee on the school board voiced concerns about the latest plan ... they're worried about how the changes will be implemented.. but the committee says there's no reason to be concerned. ((deanna wright/trustee: "i still don't think that we are adequately addressing student achievement." )) ((senator michael roberson: "if there are legitimate issues about implentation yes we can still address that in the language absolutely.")) we're finally getting a look at the monkey that a man snuck on board a flight from ohio to columbus earlier this week. here's surveillance video from the airport in columbus.. you can see the man going through security with the little monkey on his shoulder. the man didn't tell frontier about the animal ahead of time.. breaking airline policy. the company alerted mccarran prior to landing and metro responded. however, police did not charge the man with anything because he was able to provide proper documentation for the monkey./// weather?

ballot-- also known as question 1. he's concerned it would unnecessarily restrict rights of law- abiding nevadans and won't keep guns from criminals. the nra is praising the these comments came as the association launched a 3- million dollar tv campaign in nevada. it's targeting hillary clinton and her view on guns. the nra says a clinton presidency would stack the supreme court with anti- gun justices who would overturn the 2nd amendment. question 1 proponents say they don't want to take guns from people, they just don't want them falling into the wrong hands./// ((michelle mortensen)) still to come on 8 news now good day... motorcyclists are breaking all sorts of rules on the road, and it's driving metro crazy.

((brian loftus)) we're learning more about yesterday's massive explosion and fire at an apartment building in maryland. the building erupted with flames... in a suburb of d-c. we now know two people were killed .. this morning, crews will continue to search for several others who remain missing. about 30- people were injured ..

"this focus i would like to to concentrate on motorcycles. the motorcycles on the roadway, the motocycle licensing, and the people in it who are driving around, driving us crazy." ideally, anybody operating a motorcycle on the roadway must be a licensed motorcycle-endorsed operator. you've got your license, it's endorsed by dmv. "motorcycles operate on the roadway much like a car. leave the stti magazines. it looked good in a movie, but our roadways and byways are not built to have that. "bad thing is with nevada riders is that we are so close to california that motorcycle riders from california, or even here in nevada, think that the lane-splitting is permissible. just because it's permissible or allowed in another state...nevada is zero-tolerance on that." winery.. and they're giving napa valley a run for its money. crews started hand- picking grapes early yesterday morning. the vineyard has more than 850 plants some are over 20-years-old. the picked grapes will be used to make zinfandel wine. the wine will be checked for
