the bluecut fire in southern california continues to rage out of control tonight... and a state of emergency has been declared. thank you for joining us live at 11... i'm dave courvoisier. ((christianne klein)) >> and i'm christianne klein in for denise. the wildfire is zero-percent contained and has grown to 15-thousand acres in size.. this is burning east of l-a... near san bernadino and in cajon pass. ((dave courvoisier)) >> more than 82-thousand people have been ordered to evacuated... and tens of thousands of homes danger. ((christianne klein)) >> we've learned that six firefighters were entrapped but managed to escape to safety -- two of them suffering minor injuries. tom wait is on the ground with the latest: surreal images from the fire zone along highway 138 the inferno took out an entire swath of homes and buildings - the flames claimed everything, houses, rv's, cars everything in its path. just up the hill worried homeowners could only sit and wait for news. shawn hancock says his home is right near the burn zone he was with

(sot they said man - you got 2 minutes to get out of here. i got into the truck - grabbed the dogs, grabbed her saw the fire jumping our road) the flames moved so fast in some areas, there was little crews could do to slow the pace. (s/u bridge: at this point the flames continue to ferociously spread and fire fighters say they don't even know how many homes and buildings have burned down) one fire chief just in this spot along 138 near wrightwood were destroyed. complicating matters - crews had no major water source. their engines can only carry 500 gallons of water. (sot - i live on 138 where the fire is right this minute) mary gress home is in this area. she believes it's possible she lost almost everything. ((christianne klein)) tom wait reporting, thank you. the fire is having widespread effects... even extending here to las vegas. tedd's just ahead with the smoke over southern nevada... but first, this fire has cut off the i-15 artery between las vegas and southern california. ((dave courvoisier)) b where she's been talking with drivers conflicted over what to do to get through. brittany? ((brittany edney)) over the past few hours a lot of travelers have been coming up to me, asking when vital sections of 1-15 are going to reopen-- unfortunately, there's still no word yet on how long major roads are going to stay closed-- leaving a lot of commuters in limbo. ((brittany edney)) andrew ong and seven of his friends are returning to california after vacationing in utah.

((nigel mcafee, tomorrow so we definitely have to call in sick for that. luckily, we're here as a group so we can still have a good time and make the best of the situation." ((brittany edney)) the group of friends i spoke with ended up driving two hours back to vegas to stay for the night-- saying, it's not ideal to add on another 4 hours to their trip home but they didn't want to get stranded along the roadway. reporting in barstow, brittany edney. talking about here. tonight....senato r michael roberson -who chairs the advisory committee on this plan -says it's a "historic" decision for southern nevada. under this proposal....each school would be designated as a precinct....led be an organizational team in charge of budgets and hiring. when it comes to how much this transition will cost....still no concrete answer...but the committee expects this to put the heat on the state. ((michael roberson/nv state senator, dist. 20: "it will put pressure on the legislature to address inadequate funding for the school system next session. we do need to invest more in education in southern nevada." )) ((pat skorkowsky/ccsd superintendent: "there's some schools to make decisions about students in those schools. so, it's important for us to understand how these regulations will impact schools and support teachers and students in classrooms." )) ((nia wong)) >> there's still a chance more changes could be made. the state department of education is holding a workshop on august 22nd....where regulations could be altered. for now...these plans will be looked over by the state board

election headquarters for all the races that matter to you... on air and online at las vegas now dot com./// ((christianne klein)) at least 11 people have died and 40-thousand homes have been impacted by record flooding in louisiana. a federal emergency has been declared after parts of the state have received nearly 20 inches of rain since last wednesday. the state's governor says 30-thousand people at one-thousand pets have been rescued. 30 of louisiana's 64 parishes have been declared disasters. many homes and total losses. even though the storm wasn't a hurricane, it's presenting similar challenges: (( gov. john bel edwards: "we asked people to evacuate as soon as we knew we were going to see record levels of water. ov: was it too late by then? gov: you cant give the warning before you have it." )) ((christianne klein)) >> the federal emergency management agency is assisting. thousands are filling shelters. another threat facing residents down the line...

we're continuing to monitor the bluecut fire in southern california... which has grown to more than 15 thousand acres tonight... and forced r ((dave courvoisier)) >> we've now learned that the fire has completely destroyed the summit inn restaurant off i-15. the inn was a popular stop-off for travelers in hesperia between l-a and las vegas it's just one of multiple casualties we're learning of. the fire remains zero-percent contained tonight... an estimated 700 firefighters are on the ground... working on a plan to save as many homes as possible./// ((christianne klein)) and these are just a few of the photos of the blue cut

the heat continues as numbers again. the monsoon stay way north and east of the region for now as we remain dry and hot. winds have picked up as storms have been passing due north. expecting to stay hot before we see a downward trend in our temperatures as we make it through the week. ................................ ... ............. u.s. temps have been hot all over. what an august it has been with heat from the west coast all the

the midwest all the way to the mid-atlantic where feels like temps this afternoon have been in the hundreds with the humidity. ................................ ... .................. radar showing the showers and a few storms to the central part of the state and some shower activitty to the east in the grand canyon and flagstaff again. that's where they're staying for now. ................................ ... ................. keeping our eye on the storms that continue through louisiana. we have numerous flood watches in effec still through lafayette and baton rouge still with the rain continuing. that have seen up to 2 feet of totall rainn days and there are numerous rivers exceeding their banks. ................................ ... ............ here's the forecast. tonight dropping to the 80's again by morning under clear and breezy winds at times. staying warm through the evening and overnight. tomorrow expect a hig still in the 80's and above average again. we're typically around 102 this time of year and we are well above that. we'll also come close to record warm lows again. ................................ ... ............. looking ahead at the next 7 days we see a downward trend in temperatures with around numbers getting close to normal late

there's las vegas... and then there's everyone else. there's a bit of a controversy brewing over a statue that's being built in california... when you see it, it will look familiar. and you might even wonder what the fuss is all about. the san leandro tech campus near san francisco is getting a 55 foot tall statue of a woman, much like the one we have standing in the park outside the new t-mobile arena. now, some californians think the sculpture is a bit too racy because the woman isn't clothed. the concept for the sculpture burning man. san leandro's city manager says supporters have outnumbered opponents two to one./// ((dave courvoisier)) in case you missed it... the last tower of the iconic riviera hotel and casino came down in a controlled demolition early this morning. we carried the implosion of the monte carlo tower live at 2:30 a-m. this was the second part of the two-stage demolition to bring down the riv... making room for the new convention center expansion. the property closed in may of last year after 60 years of
