((sharie johnson)) thanks for joining us on this special presentation of 8 news now at 4:30. i'm sharie johnson. metro is investigating what they are calling a suspicious death in the northeast area of the valley. that's where we find 8 news now reporter shakala alvaranga. she's live near sandy lane and cheyenne ave. with what we're learning from the scene.
a hispanic male in his 30s. it was actually a neighbor here on covey lane that stumbled upon his body this afternoon. police say the man died from an apparent gunshot wound. homicide detectives as well as the crime scene unit is on scene this all unfolded around 1 o c ave and covey lane. neighbors heard atleast six gunshots in the area ... but thought they may have been fireworks. ((shakala alvaranga)) as of right now, police are still searching for a suspect. sharie? ((sharie johnson)) shakala, do we know anything firefighters are making progress on the blue cut fire... burning near cajon pass... in southern california. the fire has charred more than 37-thousand acres.
working to gain control of containment lines. they hope to move people back into areas that have been evacuated. the fire has destroyed more than 100 homes and over 200 other structures. (( "it's terrible it changes everything i mean neighbors aren't some people might not comes back")) ((sharie johnson)) more than 80 thousand people were intially evacuated. about 7 thousand remain in place. over 15-hundred firefighters are air.../// meanwhile up in elko nevada 6-thousand acre fire is expected to be fully contained by the end of the weekend. the izzenhood fire is now 80 percent contained. the fire just about 25 mile north of battle mountain, nevada. nearly 400 firefighters are on the scene fighting the flames. ((sharie johnson)) we've been watching the haze from these fires showing up

((katie boer)) ((katie boer)) while some haze from wildfires continues -- we're really seeing significant improvement around the valley and improving air quality conditions. we had an air quality advisory the past two days -- that no longers continues on this saturday. wo days -- that no our ozone remaining seasonally moderate. ............... taking a look outside -- a lot of blue skies with just a few clds .............. looking at the radar...we're seeing main dry conditions here across the valley with some exceptions. a few pop up showers this afternoon over mt. charleston--so far haven't seen any lightning from that. ............ looks like chances of thunderstorms, mainly after 11am, sunday and monday -- otherwise mostly sunny skies. even more sunshine is possible as next week rolls on. .............. scattered thunderstorms are possible across northwest arizona this evening with chances increasing across much of the region sunday and monday as a weather system moves
mid-week but thunderstorms will remain possible across the higher terrain of southern nevada and northwest arizona. ................ current temps. mainly in the low 100s, most spots 102 to 104... with a few warmer spots in the north part of green valley north of 215 up to 107 to 109. we'll see temps. really nice and mild heading into this evening. ............. looking at much cooler conditions in your extended sparked in the central valley this morning. this happened at an apartment mex near sahara and decatur sbo 5.fire crews managed to con the blaze to one unit. they were able to knock down the flames in about 10 minutes. a family of 6 was taken to u-m-c for minor smoke inhalation. the red cross is now assisting them. no word on what caused the fire./// school is almost back in session for more than 300-thousand students across the las vegas valley. many teachers are preparing for their very first classroom. and the cost can really add up for school supplies. mauricio marin is live with a pretty cool way experienced teachers are helping newcomers. success...some valley teachers set up a consignment shop to get supplies to educators just starting off. to give kids the best education possible. ((april jennings/2nd grade teacher: "this is truly amazing. i've never seen anything like this before. it's is wonderful. they have everything you can ever need really." )) ((mauricio marin)) she's about to start teaching second grade. and is looking for books, activity kits and anything else she can find for the classroom at the sha consignment. ((kelly doyle/co-owner sharing is caring teacher consignment: "it's a great way for veterans to welcome all the new teachers to the district and we're all a family.")) ((mauricio marin)) kelly doyle helps run the pop-up store. she's been teaching for over a decade. and knows how much it can add up for first year teachers. building that community with new teachers. so she brought in supplies that other teachers can use in their classroom.
