((sharie johnson)) stabbing that turned deadly. that's where we begin tonight... i'm sharie johnson. we're told a man was stabbed multpile times near nellis and charleston just before five p-m. police say prior to the attack he and another man were involved in an altercation. the victim was rushed to university medical center where he later died. at this time police are asking the public for assistance in identifying the suspect.///
murdering a 15 year old boy over an ipad ... will stand trial tomorrow. marcos arenas was run over in 20-13 after the men attempted to rob him. our 8 news now reporter shakala alvaranga is standing by with a look at the high profile case. shakala? ((shakala alvaranga)) >> sharie, this murder circles around 15 year old marcos arenas. prosecuters believe two men ran him over and killed him three years ago in a robbery .. gone awry. at the time ... and 21 year old michael solid will stand trial monday morning. prosecuters say both men are responsible for the death of 15 year old marcos arenas. and this is how it allegedly went down... surveillance video captures the two men at a convenience store, supposedly plotting their next move. witnesses say dismont jumped out of an suv on charleston boulevard ...
his ipad ...a treasured birthday present from his family. police say marcos arenas then ran after the suspects... and when dismont got back into his car, arenas held on to the suv ... prosecuters say dismont and solid ran arenas over, killing him. within 24 hours, police found the white ford explorer used in the robbery ... with brand new tires. investigators scoured through jacob dismont's text messages. him and his half - brother who had just been released from prison ... urging him to disguise the suv to hide it from police. the victim's medical records give a glimpse of the pain he went through, just moments before he died ... suffering massive brain swelling and severe internal injuries. ((sharie johnson)) a 39-year-old man is dead following an a-t-v crash at the dry lake bed in jean. we're told the crash happened this morning just before seven-30. witnesses say the man who died was traveling on a yamaha ba atv became airborne. the man was thrown from his vehicle when it landed. he was pronounced dead on scene. this is the second atv related death this month near jean. if you remember, back in july a 30- year- old man was killed after his atv hit dirt mounds, causing his four wheeler to crash./// weather open ((katie boer))
yes we've seen plenty of blue sky...still a nice day... but we won't rule out a small chance for thunderstorms this evening into tomorrow. ................... here's a look at satellite radar... you can see a band of high clouds rolled through earlier...another one is moving nw from this disturbance to the south of this... we have seen a few spotty showers--mainly sprinkles -- but it's been fairly limited. scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible tonight with increased chances for storms monday as a weather system moves through. drier conditions are expected after monday with shower chances generally confined to the higher terrain. .................. current temps right now in the mid to upper 90s... a fw very isolated low 100s -- but those have been very limited. .................. normal temps. are in the 101 to 101 range...so today and tomorrow we'll continue to trend below average. .................
forecast look for mid 90s to kickstart the workweek. with upper 90s back by tuesday. low 100s for wednesday and thursday.....then back to the upper 90s friday into the upcoming next weekend. ((sharie johnson)) a new study by the bureau of reclamation predicts water levels to lower in lake mead by 2018. but it's not all doom and gloom here in southern nevada. bronson mack with the southern nevada water authority says this than a concrete prediction. he says conservation efforts have led to a 30 percent water reduction. ((bronson mack/southern nevada water authority: "we've got a seven year supply for southern nevada that is stocked away for our future needs in the event that we need it.")) mack says southern nevada can continue to meet water demands over the next 50 years. a year's supply of water is secured in an aquifer below the las vegas valley. our other water banks are in ca and az.
back-to-school countdown begins tonight. we are 8 days away. and about 90 thousand students still haven't enrolled. this is the second year online registration, through ccsd's infinite campus, is required. that means everyone must register every year. and not doing so -- could cause ccsd to lose millions of dollars in state per pupil funding. if you haven't enrolled just go to the distict's website, and look for infinite campus. or library./// ((sharie johnson)) and last week -- over 100 new educators had the chance to tour one of the oldest communities in las vegas. the hope: to get a better idea of the children they will serve.
stops included schools like wendell williams. it's the site of the old booker elementary-- which played a key role in integration in the 1970s. it's nothing unheard of to mary mcneal.
