devastating earthquake, the county's people are pulling together with compassion and determination. thanks for waking up with us i'm brian loftus. ((kirsten joyce)) >> and i'm kirsten joyce. the six-point-two magnitude quake left towns in ruins and victims buried underneath rubble. some of those victims... pulled out alive thanks to the massive effort of their countrymen. with the story ((scott mclean)) as rescue crews in central italy do the dangerous work of trying to find earthquake survivors, the grim toll of victims is rising. at least 247 people are confirmed dead after the magnitude six-point-two earthquake.

in central italy, a desperate race against time. in the search for survivors, emergency crews - and even bystanders - are contending with rough terrain, limited access and debris everywhere. aftershocks - some nearly as large as the initial six-point-two magnitude quake, continue to rock the area. c-n-ns barbie nadeau, had a close call reporting from the hard-hit village of saletta. rescuers there - overjoyed wednesday at the rescue of a little girl found alive in the rubble. first they saw a tiny foot... ...then a leg... in the video, a man seems to be talking to the girl, begging her to live (no font provided) "vie, julia. vie, julia. vie, julia." then - rescuers hoist the little girl out of the rubble. one bystander - crying out "beautiful girl!" in italian. (no font provided) "bella ragazza!" ((scott mclean)) many survivors have been pulled from the rubble alive following italy. in the city of amatrice, an 8-year-old girl has been rescued after reportedly being trapped through the night. this video shows the efforts to successfully rescue her from under the rubble.
