mind today: c-c-s-d saw a record enrollment this year. so ... more kids equal more walkers. and as you mentioned, safety is top priority today. we're joined now by sergeant sean walker with the north las vegas police department ... throughout the week, police will be scoping out any dangerous driving behaviors in and around school zones. because many students walk to and from school, crossing busy intersections, you'll see a lot of the morning and afternoon hours. the goal of the back-to-school traffic enforcement is to educate drivers about traffic

((sherry swensk)) ((kirsten joyce)) this morning, the man roommates... is set to be in court. 28-year-old michael lanunziata was arrested saturday. henderson police say he shot and killed a man inside a home.. near nevada state drive and the 95. police say a woman was also present, but not injured. detectives are not saying how the woman is related to both men.

48-year-old fred arnold from florida.. died from a scuba diving accident. arnold was a 27-year veteran of the tampa police department. the police department posted their condolences for the saying, "he volunteered countless hours to mentoring young teens in our police explorer program. he will truly be missed." /// ((michelle mortensen)) and another death happened saturday. a 63-year-old woman snorkeling in the overton arm of the lake surfaced on the water unconscious. she was taken to calville bay, but died later./// ((kirsten joyce)) los angeles international airport was under evacuation.. after there were reports of an active shooter situation...but that turned out

a lot of you have reached out to me concerned that drivers aren't stopping for school buses, so i'm going to go over those rules again. according to nevada law, both directions of traffic must stop for a stopped school bus when it has its stop signs out and/or red flashers on. the only times you can pass a school bus is if you're being directed to do so by a traffic officer or when you're traveling in the opposite direction on a road that is did like a raised median. what's driving you crazy? remember, you can write me at. traffic 8 at las vegas now dot com. back to you./// ((kirsten joyce))

8 news now reporter shakala alvaranga is live at elizabeth wilhelm elementary school to explain. shakala alvaranga >> michelle and kirsten, in about an hour, police will begin their back to school traffic enforcement. they'll be scoping out any dangerous drivers this morning. ann cavaricci is one of those officers ... on monday, august 29, 2016 beginning at 6:30 a.m., the north las vegas police conduct back-to-school traffic enforcement targeting dangerous driving behaviors in and around school zones. these saturation patrols will be conducted each school day for the first week of the new school year and end at 5:00 p.m. friday, september 2, 2016.

has been identified. 41-year-old matthew gibbon died from a gunshot wound to the head. authorities say gibbon was in a car with two other people.. when they were pulled over for a traffic violation on friday.. near boulder highway and u-s 95. gibbon fled the car and the trooper chased after him.. before shots were fired. the trooper has been placed on adminstrate investigation. /// ((kirsten joyce)) north las vegas police are investigating two deadly shootings.. that left two people dead. the most recent happened saturday night near las vegas blvd. and pecos. north las vegas police found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a business. he was taken to u-m-c where he later died. police do not have anyone in custody. /// ((kirsten joyce)) police continue to search for the person.. who shot and killed 19-year-old kenneth boykin junior in north las vegas. police found the man in the street suffering from multiple

researches in california are using altered mosquitoes.. to help prevent the spread of the zika virus. the mosquito is called the aedes aegypti. scientists are releasing hundreds of thousands of these male bugs.. to mate with zika prone females. the altered males carry a bacteria.. which prevents the females from reproducing. the females are the only ones who bite people and spread the disease. researchers say so far, the results are promising. fresno county's mosquito control is the only program in the nation to use altered mosquitoes. if it's successful, the mosquitoes will be shipped to zika prone areas inl ((michelle mortensen)) the first medical marijuana dispensary in the valley is celebrating one year!
