((denise valdez)) bryan was the 26-th first lady of nevada. we're told she died today in las vegas... she was with her husband... former governor richard bryan... and other family members... after battling leukemia. ((dave courvoisier)) family spokesman greg ferarro released a statement saying in part... "i know i speak for many nevadans who saw bonnie as a splendid example of a first lady and a superb role model for so many young people... she will be profoundly missed by her husband, her three children legion of friends... her tireless work on behalf of our state won't soon be forgotten." bonnie bryan was 77- years- old./// ((denise valdez)) our other big story of the day... the jury is deliberating... in the murder trial involving a man accused of killing a teenager over an ipad. conspiracy and murder....citing cellphone record and sureillance evidence at the time of the murder. it was during the state's testimony when solid and at least one family member joined in to interrupt. calling the state prosecutor a liar. 3 years ago....15-year old marco arenas was killed while chasing after a car where two people stole his ipad. prosecutors say michael solid and thouh they say jacob dismont grabbed the i-pad from arenas....they're arguing it doesn't matter who grabbed the ipad, so they are equally guilty for the crime. ((state defense: "there are certain kinds of murder that carry with them conclusive evidence....murder committed in robbery...therefore killing....deemed to be murder, whether intentional, unintentional or accidental, that's what the law says." ))
second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit robbery. he's sccheduled to be sentened in october. as for solid...his attorneys say he did not intentionally run over arenas- claiming it to be an accident. this afternoon....the defense pleaded with the jury to not convict solid for conspiracy and 1st degree murder. ((nia wong)) the jury is expectd to be released in the next half hour. if a verdict doesn't come down today...they'll continue deliberations tomorro nia wong 8 news now./// ((denise valdez)) a woman is dead after police say she pointed a shotgun at a kingman police officer. it happened around 11 last night. police say the officer was forced to shoot the 35- year- old woman when she wouldn't follow commands. she's since been identified as paula dell phillips. the officer was not hurt... he was placed on administrative leave... which is standard procedure during these types of investigations./// ((dave courvoisier)) improving public safety in the west valley....
