along the florida panhandle, residents are awaiting the arrival of tropical storm hermine which is expected to make landfall as early as tonight. ((kirsten joyce)) >> and i'm kirsten joyce. dianne gallagher is live off florida's gulf coast -- as people in the region hunker down and hope the storm passes quickly. good morning dianne. ((diane gallagher)) over the gulf of mexico and is expected to make landfall today. it's already brought a good amount of rain to florida. the national weather service says hermine is forecast to increase to hurricane strength before making landfall. go across the state. parts of florida are already feeling the effects of hermine. walked in my garage and there's a river in my garage. i've been watching the water, watching it rise, so if it gets to a certain point, then i will leave. the tropical storm could become a hurricane by the time it officially makes landfall along florida's gulf coast, sometime tonight (gov. rick scott, florida) we're going to have storm surge, we're going to have rain, we have the risk of tornado, and this is going to go across the state. it's going to start some ti most of the northern part of the state. we're going to see a lot of rain, especially on the east, the southeast side of this storm. and if tropical storm hermine strengthens into a hurricane, it will be the first to make landfall in florida in more than a decade. but there is some good news. jurors found michael solid guilty on all charges in the death of 15 year-old marcos arenas in 2013. arenas was targeted while he was walking down a street with an ipad. solid was driving an s-u-v while his friend jumped out of the car to try and steal it. during the struggle, arenas fell under the car and was run over. his family spoke of a boy with big dreams and promise... which was ripped away: (( maribel arenas victim's aunt: i wanted to see him play football like he wanted to and he would always tell me, when they would move away, you place and they moved in, he would always tell me 'auntie, this will always be my house right?' and i said 'yes, marcos. this will always be your house.)) ((brian loftus)) >> solid's attorney argued that the incident was an accident -- not murder. the other defendant, jacob dismount, already pleaded to second degree murder and conspiracy to commit robbery. he'll be sentenced in october.

((kirsten joyce)) we now know the name of the nhp trooper who was shot last friday. it happened friday in the on boulder highway near the 95. n-h-p says trooper shawn peckham pulled over a cadillac with three people inside--- and as he was back at his vehicle accessing information, ... one man ran away. gun fire was later exchanged as peckham pursued the suspect. a bullet actually hit the trooper's badge. the suspect was shot and killed. the other two in the car... were later detained./// ((brian loftus)) the states after a busy day in both arizona and mexico. continue to rise in southern nevada. one organization is raising awareness for childhood cancer by going gold. candlelighters childhood cancer foundation of nevada has created a month-long community campaign called "shine gold" and popular signs will be lit in gold. starting at 11 a-m the "the welcome gold. starting at 11 a-m the "the welcome to las vegas" sign will light up at 7 p.m. - the lights on downtown summerlin's will go gold. at 8 the fremont will go all gold from now t lights will go gold./// sherry how's the weather today?
